Several children’s hospitals, most notably Boston Children’s, have been the targets of a far-right harassment campaign for months, led by anti-trans influencers with millions of collective followers who have spread misinformation about the hospitals’ gender-affirming treatment for minors. The influencers have similarly waged anti-LGBTQ campaigns against schools and libraries that have been featured on conservative news programs.

Many have regret in their later years as the transition did nothing to make them who they thought they were. In addition, some surgeries lead to constant infections and other medial issues. Increased suicidality is also a result. I feel terrible for anyone in this situation, but we have radicalized the medical community into some sort of rigid conformity that in some cases violates the oath that physicians take.

On a side note, we had our gay friends and another couple over for dinner a few weeks ago. One of the men said that he wished it had stopped at LGB, as he felt the transgender community has nothing in common with people who identify by sexual preference. All he and his spouse wanted was to be recognized by the state as a legitimate union with all of the benefits that came with it.

Maybe he should look at the stuff he is selling to raise money. Nice little canvas bag... Women for Bennet. What does that mean???       Justice Jackson would be thoroughly confused if one was given to her.

I don’t think you understand his point. Marginalized folks who get included then want to shut the door on other marginalized folks are pretty selfish people.

Now there could be a distinction made between aligning causes and support of another marginalized group that may be in common.

Of course I find a gay couple talking about how “they” act towards another group pretty funny too.

Maybe I took it wrong. Only TLD knows. I took it as GTFOH. I don't think what my friends said was unreasonable. They just don't want to be lumped in with a polyglot of other people they have nothing in common with. In fact, trans women have issues with Lesbians who don't want to date them.

Many meaning what, like 3%, 5%, 10% of the people who transition? A good chunk of regret is due to the harassment they receive. They're still at the mercy of mainstream media like Fox and half the country wanting to cancel them, some wanting to cancel them from life. The people who aren't able to transition seem to have it even worse.

Of course many people don't want to be tied to the T in LGBT because it puts a target on their back for harassment and legal issues. Many of the accusations about trans people (grooming and such) were the same accusations leveled against gay people decades ago. What's old is new again.

How about you take your last sentence and change it a little bit. "All they wanted was to be recognized by the state as the gender their brain developed into while their body developed differently, as a legitimate person with all the benefits that came with it."

Have you had dinner with any trans people to give you their perspective?

When the left talks in code and changes the rhetoric around these issues on a regular basis to rile up their base, I'm not surprised that misinformation/misunderstanding was prominent and spread from the other side about what these DRs do.

No. But I get why it happened. It is a response to the left's general operating procedures.
They regularly "mainstream" and socialize their further left and fringe agenda via PC language and media. Then push whatever issue du jour into their platform.

mmmm, I dunno what you mean by "issue du jour" necessarily...seems to me that the issues which make so many on the right uncomfortable are simply requests/demands for greater respect and freedom for marginalized folks in our society...that covers a lot of turf, but that seems to me to be the common theme. Progress in respect and freedom.

Sometimes that's uncomfortable for those who aren't among those marginalized by some difference from the majority/higher status/powerful.

And sometimes that "language and media" effort is downright awkward and off-putting. I found "de-fund the police" to be such...I knew what was meant and understood/respected the goals, but the language was off-putting and downright wrong if taken literally (as a very few did). The desire for more descriptive personal pronouns and as means of indicating respect for differences rather than being pigeon-holed was difficult to navigate for many of us and being rejected if one stumbled was likewise off-putting.

But none of this awkwardness justifies the complete loss of sanity that's happened on the right.

I know that r's hate Jon Stewart, but this clip is stunning.

Jon interviewed Leslie Rutledge, Arkansas Attorney General, about why her state banned gender-affirming care for minors - ignoring the guidelines of major medical organizations and taking the decision out of parents’ hands.

.... Stewart has a strong argument. Rutledge's mystery medical experts probably believe hydroxychloroquine cures COVID. I think Rutledge cares about the issue, it appears it is not just politics with her. Her problem is she is taking advice from people with an agenda and trusting these people, it is not about the welfare of children.

When I’m confused I ask questions personally. I don’t run out and act while being confused. Except when I see dudes who are 4s and 5a pinching way above their weight and walking out with 9s and 10s in bars. That’s the only time I act before asking when I don’t understand.

I don’t hate Stewart, his show got formulaic, predictable and ultimately driven by catering to the built in viewer base which meant, like Jon Oliver now, using sometimes stale and dated information to support a case or being a little to narrowly focused on one side of a issue that has two sober and responsible sides to it.

But…I love the part where he stoically goes “wow that’s an incredibly made up statistic”. Right in target, correct and delivered.
