They are NOWHERE close to herd immunity (60% to 80% necessary). They are not close to passing New York, which might be at 25% or so now...

You are assuming there is no cross reactivity in Memory T cells from previous corona virus infections. A assumption that is currently being challenged with data that suggests otherwise.

But that is not going to lower "herd immunity" to well under 20%...

First, my quote is the second not the first.

Second, we have a series of instances when what was produced by the scientists was altered by the HHS communications group, post Caputo's coming in on behalf of Trump..

This one is just one. In this case, they actually removed clear advice the scientists had established and replaced it with absolutely dumb advice. The blow back came from both within the CDC and from the media which of course noticed, perhaps because scientists alerted them. the last being merely speculative. The language was stark...if you've been in contact with someone positive for over 15 minutes, but don't have symptoms you don't need to be tested. That was exactly the opposite of the prior advice. And they had to reverse it. Coincidence that the President was calling for less testing? That more testing means more cases...and more deaths??? Yup, that's what Trump kept saying...

Stories have been rolling out about the scientists being very PO'd about what was happening. And Caputo then had his meltdown and resigned, or whatever one wants to call his leaving that role.

The Smithfield case last spring, now known to be exactly as I describe, is particularly obvious. This is NOT the scientists, this is those dealing with the political pressures from the White House trying to tiptoe for them.

And now we have the President saying that the White House has to approve the FDA's requirements for approval of an EO, thinks that having the standard two months of data for side effects to emerge "sounds like politics'...

No. I'm saying in additiono to deaths, start paying more attention to hositalizations, not necessarily simple case numbers. Testing guidelines continue to be all messed up. Some states are still testing all. Others are isolating people. Look at the cases with hospitalizations. It should give us a better idea of the severity of outbreak in certain areas.
