If these people die, will hatefilled people like DocB and JHU72 rejoice at their stupidity? B/c they refused to wear masks and follow Gov. Bakers rules? Why isn't the fact that Congressman Neil attended this event on Anderson Coopers show? Rachel Maddow, where is HER rant about the idiots that violated the law and attended this breakfast?

I don't wear a helmet while bike riding, either.....
Why in the world would you make that your habit?

The risk of falling and getting a concussion would be the best thing that happens. sheesh.
nothing close to Danny Macaskill, but pretty damn good "technical" bike rider. Helmet ain't gonna save me from all the criminals texting and driving, now is it.

That is not an answer to the question....
Only suckers and losers wear helmets;

We know, for example, that based on federal bicycle fatality data, those killed in bicycle accidents usually aren’t wearing a helmet. This has remained consistent, with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) reporting:

2013: 63 percent of cyclists who died weren’t wearing helmets, while 17 percent were (and the rest were unknown);
2012: 64 percent of cyclists who died weren’t wearing helmets, while 17 percent were;
2011: 66 percent of cyclists who died weren’t wearing helmets, while 15 percent were.

Why do you care if I don't wear a helmet?

Context is everything. Those that died, were other bike riders, or vehicles, involved? exactly.

Regardless of the season, bicyclist deaths occurred most often between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Bicyclist deaths occur most often in urban areas (75%) compared to rural areas (25%) in 2017.
Bicyclist deaths were 8 times higher for males than females in 2017.
Alcohol was involved in 37% of all fatal bicyclist crashes in 2017.

There is nothing worse than an hypocrite. Many are on this board. I don’t know what you expect someone on here to do about a local small town politician. I wear a mask. You don’t. Why are you upset that he isn’t wearing one? He may not care like you don’t care?

I have no idea who that Charlie Weaver type character is. He should be wearing a mask. It’s stupid not to....particularly in a room full of people. I don’t know what else you want a person to say..... Next time you are in Westfield picking up product, try to get in to see him.

But be careful of believing blogger Turtleboy ...TB Daily News :roll:

Totally agree on doing what makes public health sense, not just for oneself (ala helmets) but perhaps even more morally important, also for others (don't drive recklessly).

Wear the mask, don't be a hypocrite.

My kid's school is doing 1,000 tests per day. Which is enough to test every kid once a week. And they will pay for/do more if they need to. But 1,000 tests a day (which most state Us couldn't afford) ain't gonna cut it if you have 20-30k undergrads.

No one who lives around here now will voluntarily go into the City of Boulder. Because that's where the main CU Boulder campus is. While CO and Denver metro have had pretty low Covid numbers over the summer, seems like only a matter of days/weeks until Boulder flames up with Covid. Especially since CU gets big cohorts of out of state kids from TX and CA and since 75% of the kids live in town off campus.
Well, it didn't take long for CU/Boulder to blow up. "For cause" testing just doesn't cut it. A week ago they quarantined the entire enrollment -- 29k undergrads -- for two weeks. Today they went full online for the next two weeks. At least they aren't sending the kids home -- yet. But after the two weeks runs, who knows.

In contrast, my kid's school is doing fine. They test every student weekly. Since they are driving with the headlights on, the contact tracers jump on the few positives they find immediately.
evidently the cu plan was to screen test on campus students weekly, but not off campus. so probably about 1/4 of the school.
https://www.dailycamera.com/cu-boulder- ... nts-weekly
not surprisingly, they now have over 100 cases per day on their dashboard. and get to do the 'ole lockdown/quarantine bit to add to all their other regulations.

would make more sense to not do any regular testing at all and save the money. unless the thesis was covid doesn't like to live off campus?

Agree that CU's plan was doomed to fail. Like most big state Us, they didn't require tests prior to arrival; they didn't test every kid upon arrival; and they didn't regularly test every kid following arrival. That isn't going to cut it. The real question is whether the students will start lighting up the town. I suspect folks in State College, Tuscaloosa, Ann Arbor, etc. have the same worry.

In contrast, my kid's smaller, higher resourced, private school is doing fine (at least so far) -- test every kid at home, and upon arrival, and then weekly thereafter. Their weekly positives are very low and trending lower. I wonder what the cost of that level of testing is?

The only big public state U I've heard of doing very high volume testing is Illinois. They test every student/staff person twice a week. That's a ton of tests -- 15-17k tests a day! They invented their own saliva test and do it all in house. Compare UMich (which has private-like resources). Only doing 6k saliva tests per week of asymptomatic personnel.
