Until Republican voters hold their Republican President and Republican Representatives accountable...and either vote them out, or Primary them....nothing will change.

That's now how your team works. You're more than happy to "blame the Dems", give your reps something to run on next election, and be satisfied with the status quo. So that's what they do.

You're LITERALLY telling your reps to do nothing about the problem. So that's what they do.

Same goes for the Dems, obviously. Until THE VOTERS change their behavior, we'll continue to get passed up by other 1st world nations that have functional governments.

Immigration and VISA reform has been untouched for 50 years. At what point do partisans wake up and petition their own leaders?
Right. (R)'s are the only ones who want the issue, more than they want reform. ..

So long as our politics remain so race based, comp immigration reform is not possible.

The (D)'s wanted race based identity politics -- they've got it now. ...Trump was the inevitable reaction.

So you completely ignored the part where I wrote "same goes for the Dems, obviously".

Yeah, ok.

McConnell would not have been able to block it.

I'm not surprised that folks would be enthusiastic about the Mexicans fighting the cartels. Major parts of Mexico are dominated by the cartels, through a combination of incredible violence and intimidation and corruption of the police and gov't officials. Incredibly dangerous for regular folks.

Same for Guatemala, and the rest of the Triangle.

The "Safe Third Party" is a complete joke, window dressing for posturing only. The notion that Guatemala is 'safe' for anyone other than those pledging fealty to the criminals is flat ridiculous.
The Senate filibuster rules have nothing to do with Trump or any other President.
40 Senators can block anything not exempted by the nuclear option.

The Safe Third Country rule is no more of a joke than the asylum scam being perpetrated by economic migrants.
There are safe areas in Mexico open to migrants, as are Costa Rica & Panama.
Less than 10% of asylum seekers from the Northern Triangle see the adjudication process through to completion & gain asylum.
It's a massive con job & diversion of resources.

I was surprised at the reaction to the news by the folks I was watching it with,
They see the asylum abuse for the scam that it is & view it as something making life harder for them here.
True, but what 40 Senators would have blocked a bi-partisan bill passed by the House and supported by Trump and McConnell???

You deflect as usual...Guatemala can't possibly be considered a 'safe' harbor for asylum seekers...why the heck to do you think they're fleeing?
What makes you think that bill would have passed the House ?
Because Pelosi and the rest of the leadership supported the 'deal' made. After agreeing, Trump balked, not them.
Pelosi wasn't in the majority back then. There had to be a majority of House (R)'s for the bill, before Ryan could bring it to a vote.

Congress was, & remains, too divided on immigration to pass any comp reform to send to Trump.

That's why it has to be addressed in small, crisis management bites. Like the asylum laws & DACA.
Ahhh, so you're saying that even if Trump supported the deal, Ryan supported the deal, the Dems in both houses were willing to go along, the GOP in the House would have voted it down?

So...GOP's fault?

Nah, Trump walked away.

That's right. Keep Tucker's pockets lined---reward him for blaming "someone else", and keep blaming anyone but the people you voted for to actually do what you elected them to do.

Ditto. Frustrating, isn't it?

Craft letters to your State's R Chair....plenty of R's in each and every State who vote on things, and can be Primaried if they don't fix immigration. And you can donate time/money to any of them.

All Tucker is going to do is "blame the Dems", because folks like you like that. So he gets paid, and meanwhile, nothing changes.

As I said, the message he's sending to the Republicans in Congress is, "don't do anything. We'll blame the Dems, not actually solve the problem at hand, and I'll help you get reelected".

Tucker's full of *hit. But keep watching him, I guess.

You're smarter than this. Your party has been selling the "the Dems are the devil and want open borders" cr*p for how many decades now?

Obama had total control of Congress for his first two years. It's how he passed Obamacare, remember?

So tell me: if you and FoxNation think the nefarious, mustache-twirling Dems want chaos and open borders, why didn't Obama either open the borders completely, or pass the whatever evil immigration bill they wanted while they could?

Think it through, and get back to me.

Kuta,

The discussion was whether congress has done its job. Congress got into the habit of not working. Bad habits are hard to break.

 Riiiiiighht. That certainly why you're blaming Dems for not passing immigration reform, and quoting Tucker freaking Carlson on his nonsense that Dems don't want to follow immigration laws. Might as well add that AOC likes to kick puppies in her spare time while you're at it.

Noticed you didn't answer my question. Ya got nothing, eh?

Maybe you missed it, but my opinion is that both Congressional parties benefit from the status quo----and that's why they've done nothing to fix the problem for 50 years. And every year, the incentive to campaign on immigration....all while doing nothing about it....grows.

Edited for clarity.

It seems that Trump is willing to do something against illegal aliens, and defending the border, so you sound mostly like a crackpot to me.
