I have such a hard time figuring out what is more relevant, deaths or cases. Flip of the coin?

Let's ask the 33,000 dead in NY what they think!

That's obviously not a close call so let me in a rare moment agree with you on something, that deaths are the ultimate issue not cases determined through testing. Clearly, testing is far more available now than in March, April, May etc. So, Florida's high overall # of cases reported ignores the reality that cases were very high in the North East early on but not actually measured...because of low testing availability. Instead, we saw the cases through the deaths. Areas that were hit earliest had no defenses, no test and trace capability, not enough PPE, no knowledge of best therapeutic responses, and the spread was wildfire before people realized that they actually needed to change their behavior.

But if we look at # of cases per month now, when testing is more available (though far from sufficiently), Florida looks awful per million pop. And, thus, deaths look awful per million pop. That's the current reality.

Deal with it, Petey, Florida is doing miserably now by comparison to those states which were hit early, but which then got far more serious about reducing spread. When the Fla Governor declared victory, it was very, very premature.

But hey, the good news is that Florida is doing better now with new cases than it was a month ago, so we'd predict lowering deaths following.

But will Florida actually squelch the virus as deeply as other areas, or will they yet again push to ignore the virus, downplay the need for distancing, masks, etc? Like they did in May, with catastrophic results?

The Governor's actions re schooling certainly look to be a wild gamble, but we'll need to just hope it doesn't ignite rapid spread yet again.

Personally, I hope that the bulk of the citizenry has more common sense and the spread will be mediated by that good sense. Fingers crossed.

On this one, 1000 IU per day from a supplement would be no sweat, 2000 fine. (Mayo Clinic recommendation nothing to do with COVID)
Eat some wild caught salmon while you're at it, portobello mushrooms...

Maybe that is why I have never had the flu or seem to get sick. I am always outside...getting free vitamin D?

You should let JHU know that vitamin D is a substitute flu vaccine and it keeps people from getting sick from anything. It’s a cure all.

No pizza, beer and the couch are even better. I know a guy that drinks and smokes everyday and has never come down with the flu! I work inside and I have never had the flu....So I have that going for me.

More deaths in 6 months than we had in 2017 for Diabetes, Flu, Pnumonia, and Suicide...combined. Now only behind Heart Disease & Cancer. And this is with extreme containment measures being put in place.
