I won't speak for TLD, but my sense was that most people in 2015/2016 were feeling very financially insecure.

I quite agree with this statement. You need the liberal dreamer who thinks big in the white house and the conservative "doers" in Congress making sure we go slowly and reach consensus before getting too hasty about changes. The problem with the formula is that Congress stopped doing their job a long time ago.

Show me a politician that does not lie. That would be truly remarkable.
Come on C&S. We all know that Trump is outrageously far away from normal/typical.

When it comes to lying, Trump is Babe Ruth. The greatest of all time by a YUGE margin. And he's getting worse. He's now up to an average of 20 lies per day in public. As compared to Trump, all other politicians (D or R) are playing in the Little League of lying.

A good case can be made, though, that Trump really shouldn't be thought of as a liar. Hillary and Bill are classic liars -- they are very careful and cautious when lying. They work to keep their lies under wraps or keep their lies/stories straight. Since they know that lying is bad.

In contrast, Trump is better thought of as a classic bull shirt artist. He literally doesn't care if what he says is true or not. He doesn't bother to try to track his inaccuracies to keep his story straight. He doesn't even bother to try to hide that he's lying constantly -- he revels in telling spectacular lies that are easily proven to be such. He will literally say anything in the moment that seems advantageous to him. His tells so many lies that his lies are always conflicting with his other lies.

If you want to understand Trump, pick up a copy of the classic treatment of this subject -- On Bullshirt by Prof Frankfurt of Princeton:

"Bullshirt and the related concept of humbug are distinct from lying. Bullshirters misrepresent themselves to their audience not as liars do, that is, by deliberately making false claims about what is true. In fact, bullshirt need not be untrue at all."

"Rather, bullshirters seek to convey a certain impression of themselves without being concerned about whether anything at all is true. They quietly change the rules governing their end of the conversation so that claims about truth and falsity are irrelevant. Although bullshirt can take many innocent forms, excessive indulgence in it can eventually undermine the practitioner's capacity to tell the truth in a way that lying does not. Liars at least acknowledge that it matters what is true. By virtue of this, bullshirt is a greater enemy of the truth than lies are."

It isn't lies, right? Just alternative facts! How telling that Trump says his apartment in Trump Tower is on the 68th floor. FYI, Trump Tower is 58 stories high.

When it comes to lying, Trump is Babe Ruth.

Did you forget about that little lie that revolved around the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution? That little lie sort of kind of out did all of Trumps lies. How many Americans died as the result of that little white lie... 60,000 thousand dead Americans. Trump is a lying SOB but the sum total of his lies never bought us a war in Vietnam. Explain to me again how all lies are created equal? Trump lies 20 times a day. It took one lie to involve us in a war in Vietnam. So you don't think it is a big deal that some politicians lie more than other... maybe a good counselor such as yourself can argue your case with all of our Vietnam vets. Ten thousand lies can be outdone by one very big lie... once it puts the lives of our service members in harms way. To be fair, the same argument could be made about the war in Iraq. Was it a lie or the result of really bad intelligence? The common denominator is the destruction in human lives caused by a little white lie or the bad interpretation of intelligence.

This is what makes the Water Cooler so glorious: posters have history.

Are us long time posters supposed to forget that this is PRECISELY what you felt for 8 long years under Obama? Everything Obama did was wrong. America, according to 6ftstick, was in flames. So was the rest of the Middle East and the rest of the world. And all of it was either the fault of Obama and the Dems, or Hillary Clinton.

Remember?

And now that Trump and his little R is in charge? Oh, sunshine, rainbows, and fuzzy bunnies have arrived en masse!! Hurray!!

Come on man. It's not possible you have this little self-awareness. ;)

It's simple: you're happy a R is in charge. It makes your glass half full when you look at anything. While I don't understand how your mind works, and never will....I'm sincerely happy for you. I'm glad you're happy with Trump.

Btw, C&S brought up an excellent point: Trump gets the biggest star imaginable by his name for NOT invading a new country so far. Dead serious. Over the moon happy with Trump on this count.

And I frankly doubt we'd have the same situation had Hillary won. She was too much of an interventionist to leave well enough alone.

As you say the place that has gone up 1,000x is college education, is the same place where the man will lend you the most money with the least interrogation AND allow an 18 year old college freshman to have a CC with darned near zero credit history and no co-signer. youthathletics wrote: Wed Aug 14, 2019 2:49 pm It's because most people are doing well right now...we have been programmed by marketing that we feel good when we have "things" and enough of them to keep us (pre)occupied along with a more discretionary savings account as compared to years past. Our memories are short and our selfishness is vast.

Said a different way....people do not really give a dump about Trump, so long as their lives are comfortable. Almost like how the liberal democrats have treated most, if not all, large inner cities.
How would you define most people and what is your measure of doing well?
And heres the problem.

Something COMMON SENSE used to tell you but now you need this defined. If for no other reason than to dispute it.
I was asking because he wrote "Most People = ......" I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something......
Bullsh*t all you wanted to be able to do was dispute it. Im so sick of hearing from the left how awful things are what a terrible country we live it. Half the country is deplorablele and racist and the other half can't wipe their own azzez. Lets tear it all down and let Bernie and AOC take care of us. Would that make you happy?
Trump is the one who complains the most about how bad America is.....65% of the Americans don't hate America, they just want a POTUS who actually has a plan and doesn't lie.
Obama NEVER improved anything. Trump has improved everything. Big difference.
Never mind.
