Peggy Noonan on counting the votes.

https://www.wsj.com/articles/maybe-repu ... 1668121391
It is rude of Arizona and Nevada to keep the country waiting to know the composition of its Senate. Why, days after the election, don’t we know which party controls the House? Why can’t the late-reporting states get their act together on vote counting? It’s the increase in mail-in ballots? So what? You roll with life and adapt. Florida, which spans two time zones, reports its tallies with professionalism and dispatch.

States have two jobs in this area. One is to create the conditions by which people can vote—polling places, machines that work, correctly worded ballots. The second is to count the votes. It’s not rocket science. Leaders keep saying we have to be patient. Why? How about doing your job? Get the mail-in ballots, count them, hold them in a vault until the polls close, and announce the numbers, along with the Election Day vote, that night.

Long counts are not only sloppy, they are abusive. It is in the delay between polls closed and outcome announced that the mischief begins. It’s where conspiracism takes hold. They stole the boxes with the ballots last Thursday—my cousin’s friend saw it.

Uh huh. My cousin’s friend saw it. Right next to the leperchaun riding a unicorn…

Peggy Noonan is paid for this drivel?

Tremendous relief & restoration of faith in the American electorate & US democracy.
They were really alarmed by the Dems' scare tactics.
Oh ye of little faith. The Catholic Supreme Court can still send us back to the Catholic dark ages. This was just one of many opportunities. We have another 2-20+ years of keeping authoritarianism at bay, if not longer. You'll get many more chances my main man!
Old Salt has forgotten that Fake Conservatives told us that all major US cities burnt to the ground two years ago during protests that lasted 10 years. Oh, and that the protests then were about Netflix raising prices by a dollar a month, not about civil rights.
Netflix pricing will have a Revolution, but it’s going to be among their shareholders and creditors.

I've met Oz Bengur back when he was in business, investment banking, with a friend in the '90's, and then decided to get into politics. I went to a small strategy fundraiser for him, pre-run. I liked him, figured he'd be left of me but reasonable, understood business etc...but then he introduced to the group his top campaign strategist who I knew was one of the worst, race-baiting African American political advisors, more grifter than anything else...I had to tell him that I couldn't support him if he was going down that rathole.

Bengur definitely knows what crudite is, total BS to say he didn't. I don't like his act, and it's indeed an act, on the Young Turks. The gal seems much sharper and less of a jerk, though she dips her toe in jerk-ness too. But Bengur goes all-in.

But yeah, Fetterman nailed Oz with that totally self-owned gaffe video. Perfectly showed the contrast.

Remember when the right wingers called Hillary a carpetbagger when she ran for Senate in NY? It turned out that she had been living in the state for quite a while. Therefore, she was not a carpetbagger (though NYS does allow someone from outside the state to run for the office). But clearly, Oz is not from Pennsylvania. He does not know the state at all. His home (which he openly displayed on campaign ads) is in Jersey. This is a point lost on many right wingers from that state. I just cannot figure out how Keystone Republicans put him on the ballot. Makes no sense at all.

Do you except an unrelenting advocate who cares more about winning himself than having a honest dialogue to listen to moderate and open sources of information? Or claim to be an intellectual and more thoughtful while still operating in an echo chamber?

Steve Kornacki just adjusted down the repubiCONs chances of gaining the house. Now the likely number of House republiCONs is sitting at 219 +/- 5. Down from 222 in the past 2 days. The dems are definitely still in that race.

Yeah,Peggy Noonan is who I’m going to for advise. Jeez.

2018: 6 days to declare Kyrsten Sinema the winner.
2016: 10 days to formally declare Trump the winner.
2014: Over a month to declare McSally won a House seat.

Your team has made it complicated and fraught. Hang in there a while. You’ll be fine.

Gov. Hobbs?!?

Still a lot of votes to be counted, but somehow, Katie Hobbs, one of the most timid, least charismatic, political candidates out there, is steadily pulling away from Kari Lake, a charismatic MAGA piece of trash who had been considered a rising Republican star.

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2022-e ... or-results

Even Democrats criticized Hobbs and her supposedly incompetent campaign, especially her decision to avoid a debate, for which Lake criticized her for weeks on end.

Just keeping the race close is impressive. But if Hobbs actually wins? Wow.

It's simply amazing that a person like John Fetterman is a senator.

He is painfully dumb, well before a stroke. His accomplishments to date are....well, absolutely nothing. He lived off of his parents til 50. His wife is a self declared socialist. His tenure as a mayor (his first job) was an unmitigated disaster.

You can say a ton of things about Oz, but dumb isn't one. He likely would have been much less of an attention hog than some feared. I obviously would have preferred David McCormick, someone I've met several times, a very impressive person. And I doubt Oz would have stayed past one term. But Oz at the very least embraces constitutional law and norms, something Democrats apparently are fast tossing overboard in their bizarre embrace of power for power's sake. What a spectacle.

Fetterman is an absolute embarrassment, for everyone, including those who swear he isn't the dolt he clearly is. It will be painful watching this overgrown lurch stumble his phraseology for six years. He won't know what he's voting for or against, any more than a memory care patient with advanced dementia understands what they're eating day to day.

God help us, man. What an unmitigated disaster.

Trump is the utter embarrassment. He was responsible for oz, a terrible unqualified dude from Jersey.

I don’t know much about fetterman. But if he sucks so bad how come the gop couldn’t find a candidate to beat him?

Why does the gop allow one disaster to pick another disaster as your candidate. That’s what I call embarrassing petey.
