Looks like some Republican governors are waking up. Looks like Florida isn't one of them.

“The head of the Food and Drug Administration ousted its top spokeswoman from her position on Friday in an urgent bid to restore the tarnished credibility of the agency after he made erroneous claims that overstated the benefits of plasma treatments for Covid-19 at a news conference with President Trump.

The decision came just a day after the F.D.A.’s parent agency, the Department of Health and Human Services, terminated the contract of a public relations consultant who had advised the F.D.A. commissioner, Dr. Stephen M. Hahn, to correct his misleading claims that 35 out of 100 Covid-19 patients “would have been saved because of the administration of plasma.”

The removals come at a moment when the agency, which will be making critical decisions about whether to approve coronavirus vaccines and treatments, is struggling to salvage its reputation as a neutral scientific arbiter.

The ousted spokeswoman, Emily Miller, had little experience in health care. She had spent years working in Washington for Republicans, including the former Texas Congressman Tom DeLay and Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, and as a journalist for One America News, the conservative cable network. She was in her agency post for just 11 days.“

So the Mooch’s record of getting fired after 10 days still stands.

Interesting...they never once said anything about is recovery the 2nd go around. It is often "what is not" in the article. You are left with the narrative "COVID-19 can get you, again". So much for who, what, where, when, journalism.

Cases have been rising for more than 2 weeks while deaths continue to decrease. Narrative fail.
Democrats upset people aren’t dying (I don’t have a graph for this).

Back on June 30, when Petey told us the libs were bummed no one was dying, the FL 7 day daily death average was 38.

Today it is 112. Mission Accomplished!!

Over the years I have said on LP and here that certain right wingers suffer from delusionalism. PB's posts and the fact that forum right wingers fail to condemn any of this proves the point.

Latitude symmetry chart showing clear tailing for both Hope-Simpson outbreaks.

@MrsStally
Robert Edgar Hope-Simpson theorized that viruses act in separate timing patterns by temperate latitude bands of the Earth. The flu may hit NY on average Feb 5 each year. But hit Mexico City on average 13 weeks later each year.

Viruses are creatures of habit.

the messaging throughout the crisis from healthcare spokesfolks on solutions... i'll charitably describe as spotty. personal view is in the spotlight (where they're not used to being... or in this case not used to healthcare) they've attempted to dumb it down. to a fault.
as importantly, the hc folks know their inside lingo and what developments mean, but it's something that normally evolves with time and mounting evidence. time in years or decades, not months or weeks. a pandemic does that to ya.

i would say i wish it were better, tho without giving them a free pass, nailing it might be too tough a task given everything.

In realville...

Abstract
Background: Because treatment options for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are very limited, the use of convalescent plasma has bee explored.

Case presentation and treatment: A male centenarian with cough and dyspnea for 2 months was diagnosed with COVID-19. Without effective treatments and with the increased risks of antiviral therapy for the elderly, this patient was given convalescent plasma. The viral load, complete blood count, inflammatory indicators, vital signs, and clinical symptoms were observed before and after COVID-19 convalescent plasma transfusion.

Results: After convalescent plasma transfusion, significant improvement was observed on laboratory indicators and clinical symptoms of the patient. Concurrently, SARS-CoV-2 viral load decreased sharply after the first transfusion (from 2.55 × 104 to 1.39 × 103 copies/mL) and became undetectable after the second transfusion.

Conclusions: With the substantial increase of COVID-19 in recent months, treatment for elderly patients has become restricted in some countries. The successful treatment of this 100-year-old patient using convalescent plasma suggests that we should consider adding convalescent plasma in the management of the elderly.

I know a 85 year old life long smoker that contracted Covid and survived. Not sure she realized what she had as she suffers from dementia. Picked it up in a nursing home. One of the lucky ones and not sure she even knows it. Her son picked it up separately and was one of the early Remdesivir trial patients and had a good outcome. Took two test that came back negative but the virus was evident on scans. The doctors scraped the inside of his lungs to confirm it.

I think the big state schools (like Bama) are not going to be able to stay open for very long.

The smaller/wealthier/privates probably will be able to keep going. Because they have the ton of resources needed to pull this off.

ND, for example, is re-opening classes after being online only for two weeks. To do that, they had to start doing (and will keep doing) a boat load of expensive tests. Their initial plan (which lasted only two weeks) depended on only testing kids with symptoms or known exposures. They also spent the $$$ to hire extra security guards to patrol the quarantine housing to keep the positive kids from leaving.

My kid's school is doing 1,000 tests per day. Which is enough to test every kid once a week. And they will pay for/do more if they need to. But 1,000 tests a day (which most state Us couldn't afford) ain't gonna cut it if you have 20-30k undergrads.

No one who lives around here now will voluntarily go into the City of Boulder. Because that's where the main CU Boulder campus is. While CO and Denver metro have had pretty low Covid numbers over the summer, seems like only a matter of days/weeks until Boulder flames up with Covid. Especially since CU gets big cohorts of out of state kids from TX and CA and since 75% of the kids live in town off campus.
