7 days death totals for the week ending 8/18/2020.
Florida finally looks like it has a strong signal for leveling off.
Texas showing a turn but needs confirmation.

sweden seems to have gotten back toward semi-normal even after disrupting society maybe the least during the spring. death rate high vs scandanavian cousins, of course. odds are they'll lose that particular numbers game given how things have gone and what neighboring countries are likely willing to do to keep their deaths and infections down until (maybe) help with a therapeutic or vaccine arrives.

And before our country's libs lost this round, they were extolling Sweden as a model of socialism to emulate. Goes to show you it's all about power and not honest conversations. Defeat Democrats.

Pretty dumb argument. Out of 215 countries, Sweden is 8th worst in deaths per million population. It's a long distance race, but that's miserably worse than their immediate neighbors...who BTW are also experiencing low deaths/day currently. And they did no better than their neighbors economically.Peter Brown wrote: ↑Wed Aug 19, 2020 11:45 amwgdsr wrote: ↑Wed Aug 19, 2020 9:50 amnot really much to be gleaned from the article or the study. study is just a short compilation of stats of covid tracking and measures taken, really.CU77 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 19, 2020 1:22 am*sigh* That's fake news, Pete. Of course, it could all get better for Sweden over the long haul, especially if it takes another year before an effective vaccine is available, but right now they look miserable.

CU88 last night posted a gem which said that 'getting a check from the Feds is being on the dole' (meaning I suppose that Joe Biden has been on the dole practically his entire adult life since he has worked for the federal government most of that time?). Work for the military? On the Dole! Be a judge? On the dole! Serve as Ambassador? On the dole!
But I'm the idiot for pointing out that we already have 3 stage 3 Covid vaccines.

I wasn't predicting it would take a full year from now to get an effective vaccine disseminated sufficiently to quash the virus, but it's one very real possibility of timetable, and IF that's what happens, Sweden's strategy may prove less awful. On the other hand, if an effective vaccine happens much sooner, then Sweden's awful strategy will remain far worse than their peer neighbors.

You'll have a choice of several (not even one) by October 15.
Zero chance by Oct 15.
Disseminated across the population sufficient to quash the virus, enabling us to truly get back to normal behaviors?
Zero chance by Jan 15.
Of course, if you do sign up for an NIH trial, you have an equal chance of placebo, so there's that comfort.
now the disqualifier: "known to be a safe and effective vaccine"
If I could move the goalposts every time I am challenged on a statement.
No vaccine is ever 100% safe nor effective:

sweden seems to have gotten back toward semi-normal even after disrupting society maybe the least during the spring. death rate high vs scandanavian cousins, of course. odds are they'll lose that particular numbers game given how things have gone and what neighboring countries are likely willing to do to keep their deaths and infections down until (maybe) help with a therapeutic or vaccine arrives.
And before our country's libs lost this round, they were extolling Sweden as a model of socialism to emulate. Goes to show you it's all about power and not honest conversations. Defeat Democrats.

Of course, it could all get better for Sweden over the long haul, especially if it takes another year before an effective vaccine is available, but right now they look miserable.
Of course, it looks like the USA will soon blow past Sweden on that millions of deaths per million pop metric...with far worse economic impact...
The entertainment here is endless. Bob Saget Live has nothing on this crowd!
But yeah, you're an idiot for predicting I'll have my vaccine by October 15. Zero chance.
"Zero chance". How can there be a "ZERO" chance when you could have already gotten one of three vaccines simply by signing up for a Stage 3 active trial?! 90,000 (minimum) active participants would like a word with you.

Effective however the clinicians define it. Do you know how the flu vaccine works? There is already a Russian vaccine out. You may be able to get it.Peter Brown wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 9:21 amTypical Lax Dad wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 9:07 amNo vaccine has ever been released that was not clinically safe and effective. The flu vaccine is between 40-60% "effective". Is that "effective" in your books?
sheesh, I was talking about Sweden and it's strategy potentially looking better if an effective vaccine doesn't get disseminated until a year from now, and you make the outrageous claim that we'll have a vaccine by October 15...heck, you might as well have said that the Russians already have a vaccine.Peter Brown wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 8:56 amMDlaxfan76 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 8:49 amA known to be safe and effective vaccine?Peter Brown wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 8:41 amMDlaxfan76 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 8:38 amThe "dole" comment was a head scratcher, but I did understand the point that the gal had been supported at every stage of her life by government dollars, including even who she went to work for.
