Pretty dumb argument. Out of 215 countries, Sweden is 8th worst in deaths per million population. It's a long distance race, but that's miserably worse than their immediate neighbors...who BTW are also experiencing low deaths/day currently. And they did no better than their neighbors economically.

Of course, it could all get better for Sweden over the long haul, especially if it takes another year before an effective vaccine is available, but right now they look miserable.

Of course, it looks like the USA will soon blow past Sweden on that millions of deaths per million pop metric...with far worse economic impact...

The "dole" comment was a head scratcher, but I did understand the point that the gal had been supported at every stage of her life by government dollars, including even who she went to work for. I doubt anyone is criticizing her for that, just the rather dense lack of recognition of the importance of government $ in her life.

I wasn't predicting it would take a full year from now to get an effective vaccine disseminated sufficiently to quash the virus, but it's one very real possibility of timetable, and IF that's what happens, Sweden's strategy may prove less awful. On the other hand, if an effective vaccine happens much sooner, then Sweden's awful strategy will remain far worse than their peer neighbors.

sheesh, I was talking about Sweden and it's strategy potentially looking better if an effective vaccine doesn't get disseminated until a year from now, and you make the outrageous claim that we'll have a vaccine by October 15...heck, you might as well have said that the Russians already have a vaccine.

That ain't the point...if a vaccine doesn't get disseminated that actually works, or folks can't be convinced that it's both effective and SAFE, then the virus will continue to plague us, altering our behaviors for a long time.

There's ZERO chance that we'll have a widely disseminated vaccine proven to be both safe and effective by October 15. We can hope and pray that one of these vaccines proves to work and be safe, and that it gets distributed swiftly, but that remains to be proven. In any case, we're looking at sometime in 2021 before it begins to be widely distributed, and even then the massive #'s needed to be vaccinated are going to be an enormous challenge and it will take many months, not weeks, to accomplish this.

Unfortunately, while I think the #'s of vaccines in process is reassuring, there's also a very real chance that the initial set of vaccines will prove to be insufficiently effective, or for such limited periods of immunity, or insufficiently safe as to be the answer we need. That said, there are other tests coming on their heels, so the # of chances is working the right way!
