Also don't see why this would be a cause for celebration. If you're someone who dislikes the IL recruiting ranking system, I doubt it's going to get better now that their most knowledgable staffer when it comes to high school players is leaving. So if you thought it was bad before I'm not sure why this is a good thing for you unless his departure forces them to tear down the system entirely. In which case, then, yeah, I guess you'll be happy.
I was being snarky about the posters on this site who claimed his rankings were meaningless and that none of his opinions mattered because "he never played the sport." Personally I liked the rankings and the discussion it brought to the sport.

IL took over what TX had started up on Recruiting Rundown, for which TX borrowed liberally from the original lacrosse recruiting database on LaxPower.
IL said recently they changed their recruits grading system, so possibly the writing was on the wall for ole TX.
Not sure where I read it it but, supposedly IL has paid individual evaluations. These "evaluations" almost always result in someone being a 3 or (rarely) 4 star recruit. Can anyone verify this?

Thanks for the clarification 10 Stone. When I posted my question earlier I was apparently repeating wrong information I had read on other chat boards. My apologies to IL and their staff.

Not that I am celebrating, but I could see some disappointed Blue Jay fans who thought that perennial top five and occasional number one recruiting classes would lead to routine FF appearances and the occasional national championship. At the end of a disappointing season, it is an understandable impulse to lash out at those providing the rankings and at the posters here who uncritically echoed those rankings.

Notre Dame commit Matt Jeffery is the new No. 1 overall recruit. IL ranked the top players 1-50 with 24 five stars, then named an additional 50 to the watch list. Dan Kaplan did the first post Ty Xanders rankings.

They missed on Dylan Sanderson out of Hill Academy,

who really picked it up towards the end of last season.

He's a 2025 recruit. The list is for 2024.

They certainly had paid evaluations but only IL would know for sure the star distribution. Anecdotally, I know you could submit highlights and/or attend certain showcases.

Funny enough, the new IL recruiting guy, Dan Kaplan, just posted an FAQ that answers a lot of the questions people here have about their ratings

Just read it. A bit more clarity. When briefly looking through recent recruits scores, I'm not finding any 92-95 scores. Just as well, putting those scores on a kid would create unrealistic expectations for most. Plenty of college AAs have "come out of nowhere"

I don’t recall very many grades in the high end there,

Truitt Sunderland got a 94, and I recall seeing another 94 which I was surprised about, can’t recall who that was.

Brennan O’Neill was not as high as 94-95.

Then again, it also depends on when IL grades them out, what year.

I take it back, he says O’Neill was a 94.

O'Neill has certainly lived up to his billing. Unfortunately, a lot of players don't live up tp their hype and get criticized while still having solid careers. Dan Hardy comes to mind. He was on the cover of IL with Kenny Nims and Pat Perrit, so the hype train was in full swing. He was a 3XHM AA and had the assist on the GWG for the national championship. Yet people were disappointed in him.

One cherry-picked comparison,
Michael Sowers graded out as an 84,

but of course that goes back to ?? — 2015?

Cherry picking?? As I wrote, that just came to mind. If you want, I can list more?

Here’s another old one I found, probably going back 8 years,

IL had Jeff Teat graded out at an 89.

Another one from that tremendous 2016 class,
one IL guy had TD Ierlan as low as a 75 grade.

Every sport ranks players. Recruiting rankings are as american as apple pie. Everyone does it and it's been around for a long time. It's never an exact science because at the end of the day it's just people's opinions. You may agree or disagree about certain players but trying to rebel against the concept of recruiting rankings is useless.
