Hoyas still playing Mount so that is one of the open dates. Do you know UNC is on schedule? Unless that is the game just added (and i hope it is) that would not be correct unfortunately from what I have been told. Hope i am wrong!

Also Maryland scrimmage is confirmed so that will be a great test before a tough OOC early schedule.

senior attackman Dylan Watson has entered the NCAA’s transfer portal as a grad student for 2023, per a source. The lefty from Guelph (Ont.) has 75 career points, posting 23 goals through six 2020 games and 20G/7A last year after returning from an injury in April.

Duke or Maryland?
Now I love those cowboys, I love their gold
Love my uncle, God rest his soul
Taught me good, Lord, taught me all I know
Taught me so well, that I grabbed that gold
I left his dead ass there by the side of the road, yeah

The argument about a weak OOC is over. Let’s see what the Hoyas can do with the upgraded competition.

@HoyasMLacrosse two-time first-team All-Big East faceoff midfielder James Reilly (@stogalacrosse / @Philly_Faceoff / @NXTLCboys) has entered the transfer portal for the 2023 season.

Four-year starter won 58.3% of his faceoffs last year and had four goals and two assists.

Matnum you clearly have an axe here because you know very well how this process works. I won’t speak for either Reilly or Watson but the reality is A) they both want to play another year and B) They need to have options if a Georgetown grad program doesn’t accept them. Again, I won’t speak for them but it is clear that boys want to come/stay at Georgetown at this point. I wouldn’t bet against either being a Hoya next year if the admissions process works out.

No axe to grind. I'm just saying that the schools, Georgetown or otherwise, who pick-up a great player as a result of transfers related to the lost season, Corona, will also lose a great player. The knife will cut both ways.

Listen, Connor Morin is on my Fantasy team. I'm just thrilled that he's getting a new system to play within. If even for one season. Though he got some PT, I felt like he underperformed at Notre Dame. I'm looking forward to the 2022 season for him. I need points!

To close the loop Will say this - the last 3 impact players at Georgetown to do a 5th year were Carraway and now Smith and McElroy this year. All stayed at Georgetown. So agree there can be attrition but I still say Reilly and Watson are Hoyas next year.

especially if they have a good season. I'm all for it. As long as Morin gets big points...

Don’t be surprised if McDermott, Geddes and Mazzone, who will all be four year starters as seniors this coming season, also declare for the portal with the intent of returning to GTown. And then next year Bundy, Donaldson and Godine, the juniors who will be three year starters this season and part of the last class that can do a fifth year, could very well do the same.

That is a hell of a schedule

I would also say finances come into play with all these grad transfers. Some kids may need the money more than others, and it is just not that easy to play one more year at a program that may or may not have available scholarship money. Not speaking for anyone here - just a hunch.

The 5th-year grad transfer situation presents a remarkable opportunity for these intelligent, talented student athletes.
If you’re playing D1 lacrosse for the love of the game and you want a 2nd degree from Georgetown, then, by all means, stay at Georgetown.
If you already have your Bachelor’s Degree from Georgetown AND you’re playing D1 lacrosse because you’re hungry for a shot at the National Championship, then you go into the portal. Given that option, I would’ve jumped at the chance to “have my cake and eat it too.”
Will be interesting to see what Watson decides. Most importantly, wishing nothing but the best for these guys.

That assumes Georgetown can’t win the NCAAs in the next two years. Not saying they are on the short list but that is an assumption that I don’t think the staff or team think is unreasonable. And given the level of talent on this year’s team and the classes coming in I will say again that if the transfer portal boys get into Georgetown grad programs, I believe they stay.
