It’s not Loyola’s fault that the patriot league is weak…
But their out of conference scheduling is meh. Cuse is always tough. Florida could regress significantly with lopinto , browndorf, Resnick etc gone.
Jhu and penn and penn state 15-30 programs. Princeton who knows this year.

For a program with the reputation Loyola has, I’m surprised they don’t try to schedule more top 15 teams. Maybe they do and nobody will play them.
I'd grade the OOC portion of their schedule a 7 or 8 out of 10. Not too shabby when you compare them with other teams. Tough when you play in the Patriot though. I agree with you there.

Don't think it's terrible. Hopkins is going to be significantly better this year. Towson should be better as well. Throw out the Patriot league games minus Army Navy and possibly Lehigh and the schedule isn't that soft. It's not ACC like or the schedule Liberty is looking at but I didn't think it was meh. Certainly better than other teams out of conference schedule like Clemson. Still think Loyola takes a step back this year.

Want to talk about a poor schedule for a Top 20 team. UMass. Wow. it''s weak.

It always is. But for some reason they manage to get ranked by going 16-2 against that schedule and somehow get an at-large bid to NCAA tournament just to get embarrassed in first round. They won't change their scheduling until they stop getting rewarded for it.

No way the A10 gets an at large bid to the dance. Conference isn't strong enough for 2 bids.
I'm sure they've always gotten in due to being the A10 champs.

Umm, UMass has been an at-large team in last 2 tournaments. Richmond won A-10 last year. St. Joe's won in 2022. Lost 15-9 to Princeton in first round in 2022. Lost 19-8 to Hopkins in first round last year.

My mistake, they were regular season champs the last 2 yrs and lost in the A10 Tourney.

Their 24 schedule doesn't look too bad. Besides the 9 A10 games, they play 7 OCC games including BC, Brown & Dartmouth.

BC absolutely. Dartmouth and Brown not so much. They are kinda outside top 40-50 . If the team was Delaware or Lehigh I would say the schedule isn't bad, but this is supposedly a top 20 team.

Fair point. They didn't look like a top 20 in the Tournament when up-and-coming Hop laid a running clock trip to the woodshed on 'em. Maybe the days of resting on their laurels is over--as hmmm alluded to earlier.

Transportation cost/distance is very much a determining factor for schools the size of Loyola when making schedules for any sport.

OK. I guess you may know more about Loyola than I do. Regardless, my comment and emphasis was that there are teams that would not schedule Loyola, and it didn't have anything to do with distance.

Comparisons were made about UMass's relatively easy out of conference opponents. None here. This is a tough OOC slate.
