MD looks more asleep than Cornell did last night

I bet we play a B10 team on the road

I think the Cornell FOGOs just need to make the face-off more of a contest, to allow the wings to get closer; Ramsey was winning the faceoffs too easily and too quickly, and in the direction of the Cornell goal, giving Yale a man advantage.

I would think the Terps, Hopkins, and Penn State are all locks.

I now think Cornell is a lock for a bid, and has a chance for the #8 seed if Princeton beats Yale. See my post on final RPIs in the Selection thread.

I'll be rooting for Army today. They deserve to be in the tourney and need this win to get in. But mainly because Coach Richie Moran's grandson Ryan Sposito (#7) is on the 2nd middie line for the Black Knights and has had a good season. Go Army!

Not that it will impact the game, but I am confused as to which outcome today is better for Cornell - a Yale or Princeton win. I suspect we don't really know what criteria the committee will emphasize.

While the scars of past selection Sundays have somewhat healed, I still approach this day with trepidation. Here is what I fear today:

- The committee gives Tierney a retirement gift and awards Denver a berth
- Cornell misses out on a home game and has to travel next wee
- Cornell gets the 8 seed and plays a red hot Michigan team next week

- Very unlikely, IMO.
- If Yale wins, very likely, with State College a likely destination.
- If Princeton wins, likely.

Princeton dominating early, so 3rd scenario may be in the cards

Ryan has 3 points 1-2. Army leads 6-3.

After watching Princeton thump Yale today, I am even more convinced that the 3 early face off violations sunk Cornells chances against Yale. Cascadden was hesitant after that because he had to be. I also think the ref was likely too late on the whistle most of the game

I known styles and strategy can influence a match up, but it's hard to understand how Cornell wins 80% of draws vs Princeton a week ago, then loses 70% vs Yale on Friday and then Princeton dominates face offs today vs Yale. If Cornell gets Michigan in round 1 face offs will be key. Michigan has two good FOGOs.

To me it seemed Cascadden was usually clamping on top of the Yale FOGO’s basket and then releasing too soon. Cornell needed to have a long-stick defender on the face off unit run into position between the face off dot and the Cornell goal to prevent fast breaks (which Yale ran superbly).

Any thoughts on why Petrakis didn’t get more opportunity especially with how he did against Princeton. The only thing I can think of is they didn’t like the refs cadence which Petrakis seems to be very vulnerable to.

I asked this yesterday. I mean, he couldn't have done any worse than Cascadan did yesterday. Why not run him out there and hope he gets hot.

I almost wonder if he was injured.

Was this the same ref who di the faceoffs in that horrible Penn State game last year? When there are that many violations, the issue is the ref, not the player.

Just speculating, but in the 1st half we got 2 violations right off the bat, and perhaps the coaches were wary of running him out their given that he’s called for procedure more than the average FOGO.

As I recall, Ramsey had a prior game against Petrakis where he won almost every faceoff
