Someone else was born with more speed...'biologically advantaged'.
ahh well
There's almost always someone, bigger, stronger, faster, more coordinated...whatever...and these are biologically, genetically, determined traits. It doesn't really matter how someone was born with these traits; they are "biological advantages".
Individuals are different and that's a fact of life.
Now, what we do with them, how well we train our minds and bodies for peak performance, how well we rise to competition pressure, these are things to celebrate as one's own efforts.
Someone who competes in a sport that is timed always has themselves as their own measure. Improve my time and I've succeeded. But someone is almost always faster if I look hard enough to find that competition. Doesn't mean I failed, indeed I could run or swim or whatever my very fastest time and "lose"...yet I've succeeded in my own effort.
And if that's not how we're looking at high school sports, we're really missing the point.
Born male competing against females is the issue.
https://isna.org/faq/frequency/#
Here’s what we do know: If you ask experts at medical centers how often a child is born so noticeably atypical in terms of genitalia that a specialist in sex differentiation is called in, the number comes out to about 1 in 1500 to 1 in 2000 births. But a lot more people than that are born with subtler forms of sex anatomy variations, some of which won’t show up until later in life.
It’s not that easy when you know nothing at all about a person’s medical history. My wife teaches genetics so I have come across some of this…. Not always as straightforward as we laymen think.

Have put my favorite tranny story on here a couple of times. Am at my friend's son's house and there's a gal out there taking a tree down. Tight spot between houses, needed ropes and ladder to take it down a branch at a time, and this gal knew what she was doing. Couldn't help but notice she was a little on the muscular side. Was beyond resistible for me to not go down and offer to help to get a little closer look. Helped with the rope a little and held the ladder. Turns out the she was a longshoreman, had a nice chat and I'm glad I went down for the closer look. Saw her a year or so later at a Chinese buffet, said hello and reminded her of our prior meeting. Was all good.
I don't care about trannies and sexual preferences, everyone is fair game with me...it's all good. When that tranny steps on a ballfield with the girls I fully understand the reaction it's going to bring though.
Re: The Hate Directed at the LGBTQ+
I think this would be a very interesting conversation to have. Maybe Americans focus on the competitive lessons sports teach to athletes and we value the competition because our culture puts so much emphasis on the individual. In other countries around the world, maybe the importance of sports is different. Maybe it's more about the good of the collective/community. I imagine the soccer courts in the Paris suburbs where so many of the French National soccer team grew up playing don't have age groups with kids and parents gaming the system. I imagine that a 8 year old could play against a 15 year old there. The benefits of that would be the same as a Montessori school.jhu72 wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2023 12:02 pm ... maybe there is a problem (a big one in my opinion) with how we organize our sports teams. There’s generally a biological difference though. Set aside football, other contact sports, even basketball. The bodies store fat differently etc. Healthy competition and challenges - it’s a fine line. I’ve also drifted away from baseball over the years because the model is dictating behavior and to me the beauty of sports is Enos Slaughter scoring from first, guys not being pulled during perfect games but trying to close them out or Pete Rose dropping the thunder on Ray Fosse. The analytics has taken the sport out of sports already.jhu72 wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2023 12:02 pm ... maybe there is a problem (a big one in my opinion) with how we organize our sports teams. There is a former lax player that you saw often that is now a woman. Player was back for alumni game up your way a couple of years ago. Am sure there's a lot of the same but I had an older brother (13 mo) who was a really good athlete. We were close and always hung out together. This put me on ballfields/courts playing against guys a year or two older (and we played a lot of ball). Most of them weren't better than I was but that size and strength difference is a huge advantage when you're the bigger guy. Pays dividends for the smaller guy in the long run for sure (JFTR, none of them beat me in ping pong which really pissed 'em off...love that lefty advantage). Playing down is bullschidt...the big fish in a little pond.Typical Lax Dad wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2023 1:41 pm When I was 12 years old I was playing hoops with 18 year olds. Re: The Hate Directed at the LGBTQ+
I don't have any idea how the French handle "youth" soccer. I do think the concept of using age as a proxy for "fair competition" as we do is anything but. Same for gender, as my Linda Johnson example illustrates. The concept of using "school class" as we do for high school teams creates an unfair competition, easily gamed, for spots on the team. We also have a problem with the concept of the "goal of playing a sport", the lesson it teaches, etc. There is more than a little hypocrisy attached to that discussion.ohmilax34 wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2023 12:16 pmI think this would be a very interesting conversation to have. I think educational system based athletics have failed us as a society. We have tried to correct those with Title IX, which has made even more problems -- transexual sports, etc. I would suggest the simplest solution is to revamp all educational system based sports. Make them co-ed in all cases and unlimited in participation -- ie., the recreational model -- if you wish to participate, you are on the team, regardless of skill / ability.
Separate all single sex teams from educational institutions, make those separate club teams, not funded by the educational institutions. Goes for high school and college / university. These teams will have to become self-sustaining.
This also lowers costs for the educational institutions and generally lowers tuition for students. The educational institutions as corporations of course should be allowed to invest in club teams, part of their endowment, but the club teams have to be money making for profit entities.
I think this makes a lot more sense than what we do today.

Re: The Hate Directed at the LGBTQ+
There's a summer lax pickup league for HS kids but adults can play, only caveat is needing to be US Lacrosse member (insurance) but when I asked if my son could run with them they said no. Kinda bummed but I may take him and play and shove him down their throats - we will see. He really wants to play with anyone, but especially bigger older people. (they also found in OT and related when he was in childcare he has modest sensory "deficiency/deprivation", forget the exact term but it was mild but also that he sort of craves physicality, we had these rubber chew toy type necklaces he took into his first two years of school pre covid, got into it a little with 1st grade teacher who never said it was a actual problem in class but violated some obtuse rule to which I dropped the "violate my kids health needs" approach and she backed down fast)Typical Lax Dad wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2023 1:41 pmWhen I was 12 years old I was playing hoops with 18 year olds. By the time I was 14, I was playing with adults. This is how you improve. I have never understood playing down and have really never understood why lacrosse coaches see value in a 17 year old playing against 15 year olds. Call me crazy.ohmilax34 wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2023 12:16 pmI think this would be a very interesting conversation to have. Take a lesson from auto racing / horse racing. Age based / gender based "sport classes" is the only reason we are having either of these discussions. This is again tied to how we view the goal of sports.

Why do your arms look so small? My dad had the same haircut for wayyy too long, the wake up and swirl it over the head, and the stache until 1990.DMac wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2023 2:19 pmAm sure there's a lot of the same but I had an older brother (13 mo) who was a really good athlete. We were close and always hung out together. This put me on ballfields/courts playing against guys a year or two older (and we played a lot of ball). Most of them weren't better than I was but that size and strength difference is a huge advantage when you're the bigger guy. Pays dividends for the smaller guy in the long run for sure (JFTR, none of them beat me in ping pong which really ticked 'em off...love that lefty advantage). Playing down is bullschidt...the big fish in a little pond.Typical Lax Dad wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2023 1:41 pm When I was 12 years old I was playing hoops with 18 year olds.
