not even sure what you're rambling on about cradle.

Of course Trump has screwed the pooch on COVID, that's simply a reality.

Remains to be seen how much better Biden will handle the challenge come end of next January, but you can be sure he won't blow off the scientists and their advice, and he won't hesitate to have an organized, technocratic federal response. And that includes having consistent messaging on how all of us can, individually and together, contribute to the effort to beat this bug.

But hey, I'm hoping for a vaccine to be proven and the big challenge be to ramp it up and distribute it by the time Biden takes charge.

If we're lucky, that's going to be possible.

If we're unlucky (and this is entirely beyond Trump's or Biden's control), developing an effective, safe vaccine will take longer...and if we're very unlucky, there won't ever be a vaccine and we'll need to ride through this for a couple of years, battling to keep up and not let the health system be crushed.

https://www.healthaffairs.org/doi/full/ ... 28.6.w1066

This is a good read. Much of what the study says could have been written yesterday.

Many big city schools closed. LA schools did distance learning (via mail). NYC and Chicago schools stayed open during the second Fall peak (which was the bad one), arguing that the kids were better off in school. As the pandemic got worse, up to 50% of the kids were held back at home by their parents.

Which is probably one big takeaway. Just because you open the schools does not mean that the kids will show up.
Thanks, darn interesting.

Can't help but think that opening the schools in the fall contributed to that surge.

COVID-19 does NOT care about politics; our country needs to take it seriously and face the facts that we are looking at a scary winter.

CDC Director Robert Redfield: “I do think the fall and the winter of 2020 and 2021 are going to be probably one of the most difficult times that we experienced in American public health.”

Speaking Tuesday during a webinar with the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), Redfield said this is all due to the potential co-occurrence of Covid-19 and the flu.

It was actually a very simple ramble. I will simplify it for my moderate Republican friend. Biden wont have any more luck controlling Covid than trump has. When Biden's efforts chit the bed, the only thing that will matter is how hard he tried. Seriously MD, have you no understanding about what sarcasm is all? I feel bad when I have to explain this stuff to you. ;) You need to ease up on the Pelaton, it is interrupting some or your otherwise razor sharp faculties. Here in NY State King Andy has done everything and well beyond that the "medical experts" have recommended be done. Has it worked? The jury is still out. Here in NYS the end result of success has been one business after another after another going OOB. There is a very good chance that the Del Lago Casino and Hotel will not open again. They told 4500 employees there jobs were done. When the cure for the virus becomes more devastating than the virus itself, what do we do? New York State is on the verge of financial devastation like it has never known. The Covid numbers are down. Too bad nobody wants to leave their homes and do anything anymore. We have won and lost all at the same time. Great accomplishment, Covid numbers are down, bad result, nobody wants to leave their house on Friday to get a fish fry, unless it is touchless no contact don't come near me with my fish fry. Hand it to me from that 10 foot contactless pole you have. Why does winning look to me like we are losing?

I started elementary school with Small pox, chicken pox, measles, mumps and POLIO.

Parents were on record that only Nuclear war worried them more than polio.

All i carried to protect me was a Davy Crockett lunch box and a Howdy Doody pencil holder.

Never a discussion of closing schools. No discussion at all really.

believe a lot of you grew up at the same time
You missed the biggest, most obvious, most comparable, data point. Lots and lots of schools were closed for lots and lots of weeks during the 1918 pandemic. You know that one time when everyone had to wear a mask by law?

It would probably be worth a look to see what the impact of that was. Did the schools open/close too late, too early? Did closing schools work or not?
Went to school in the 50's not 1918. We also had influenza to deal with a long with the others I mentioned

Florida Sets Coronavirus Death Record, Hours After Gov. DeSantis Said State Had ‘Stabilized’

Florida set a new record for coronavirus deaths Tuesday, one of several metrics that show the state’s coronavirus crisis is still getting worse, even as Gov. Ron DeSantis claimed at a news conference Monday afternoon that the state’s situation had “stabilized.”

Florida reported 132 deaths Tuesday, a massive increase from the 35 new deaths the state added on Monday and breaking the old daily record of 120, set on July 9.

The key metric DeSantis said showed the state had “stabilized,” which is the rate of tests coming back positive, also took a big jump in the wrong direction.

On Tuesday, the positivity rate rose back above 15%, reversing what had been a trend of decline, and far above Monday’s rate, which was below 11.5%.

The median age of infection is another statistic DeSantis has continually cited to support his argument that the public health crisis in the state is overblown, but that, too, is headed in the wrong direction.

That age has now risen to 41—the highest number the state has reported since it started publicly releasing the statistic on a daily basis, beginning in mid-June, and hospitalizations are on the rise.

Freaking failed Democrat narrative!

A long tough listen, but a lot of good info from Laurie Garrett. She is a Pulitzer prize-winning author and pandemic expert. Back in 1994, her book, “The Coming Plague,” warned of the consequences of newly emerging diseases.

We know NOTHING about COVID-19 and it is totally different from MERS and SARS.

https://dianerehm.org/shows/2020-07-14/ ... can-do-now

3 years at least to get a normal life with this virus; assuming a vaccine in 18 months.

A "vaccine" is NOT a cure. All news about them have been in press releases from companies, not technical reporting.

Once we finally have an effective vaccine, it will take many months to distribute within a city, and years to get it around the world.

Andrew Cuomo @NYGovCuomo

Here's a true story about how quickly COVID can spread.

At a 4th of July party in Suffolk County, at least one person was positive.

Since the party, 35% of the people who attended have tested positive for COVID.

It only takes one person at one party.

Wear a mask and be smart.
