The '23 recruiting class will be the first one that we have any athletic scholarships (3) to offer. . We won't have the full 12.6 the '26 recruiting circus. On to the season...
If a school is fully funded and gives out a generous amount of merit aid it is nearly the equivalent of doubling your scholarship $$$. Ivies with no athletic $ and no merit aid but most are now wanting all of their students to graduate debt free so that is a big advantage. Need based aid is massive in the Ivy League. Big!0 and ACC teams have limited merit based aid and some need based aid, but the tuition for in state kids is much less. I think it’s a wash in the end. I would guess Hobart has provided significant merit and need based aid to counter the lack of athletic $
Yes Hobart has been and will be continue to be generous with merit aid. Too many potential recruits and/or their parents would hear that Hobart didn't offer athletic scholarship$, and cross it off their lists without even doing a little homework. Quite often, Hobart's merit aid being offered was more than the compounded offerings of other schools. Thankfully, this has changed and Hobart can compete on the $$ level. It then comes down to what a recruit wants in terms of their college experience.

Now I love those cowboys, I love their gold
Love my uncle, God rest his soul
Taught me good, Lord, taught me all I know
Taught me so well, that I grabbed that gold
I left his dead ass there by the side of the road, yeah

About what I'd expect overall. I think there's a definitive 3 tiers I'd place them in... tier 1: Richmond and St.Joe's, tier 2: UMass, and tier 3: High Point, Hobart, and St. Bonaventure. I think just all the questions on replacing Asher Nolting keep me from putting High Point higher than most

Was a bit surprised to see the Bonnies universally as last place though. They're returning a lot outside at all positions outside of Dobson, but I think they should be able to keep a solid defensive core and they still have some solid goalies on the roster. I think they'll be in the mix for that fourth conference tourney bid

UMass, you never know what Cannella has in his back pocket,
a lot of 5th year seniors graduated the past two years,

but Cannella always surprises on the recruiting side of things,
I’d keep an eye out for Dillan Arrant, as well the freshman
Canadian midfielder,

Matt Knote is as good or better than several of the goalies named as pre-season All Americans.

Dobson was 3-4 goals above replacement last year by my best guess. Hard to replace that.

Army has some snipers but clearly are making adjustments post Nichtern. Both teams have plenty to work on. SJU won but it was close

What streaming platform will the Atlantic 10 be using this year?

Does new Atlantic 10 member High Point pull the first upset in the history of that conference by defeating Duke?

No.

It’s probably more likely that they lose by 8-10 goals.

As of now, it looks like the home team will be doing the streaming. Some, though not St. Joes, allow the visiting team to stream as well.

I’m probably being overly critical, but I don’t understand why so many people high on High Point this year? They were mediocre last year (7-8) and lost Asher Nolting, their best scorer and best player by far.

In my opinion, all of the teams in the Atlantic 10 are going to be down this year except for St. Joes. Richmond lost top scorers Ryan Lanchbury, Dunn and Luke Frankeny. They looked lost against Maryland this past weekend. UMass lost its top two scorers in Kevin Tobin and Logan Liljeberg. St Bonnie’s lost its all world goalie Brett Dobson and are stepping up competition significantly. And High Point looked sick against Duke tonight. Duke is great but that was a 17-4 game in the fourth quarter. Not sure what to think of Hobart.

I would imagine that St. Joes is going to be tough to stop in the A10.

Was anyone high on them? They didn’t get any votes in the media poll, they were 4th out of 6th in the league’s preseason poll which ain’t great. Think most people expected them to be pretty meh.

They’re still searching for consistency.

They got into the NCAAs in 2021,
but that 2019 team was easily their High Point.

They don’t play any defense. They lack physicality and size. There’s a reason they have a losing record since 2020 and all their games against top level opposition have been the same - giving up buckets and buckets of goals and being uncompetitive. When you’re consistently porous on defense and lack size and speed, you can’t compete at the top rungs.
