Not following; that was IL with that "ranking"...and I'm certainly on record that I don't think they get those right, beyond the top 10, maybe 20, each year as very likely, if healthy, to be strong contributors wherever they go. Beyond that it's a crapshoot.

That said, they even whiff in the top 10. UVA for instance had the #1 incoming tender that year, ranked 8th overall recruit all positions, but as it turned out, I don't think he was in the top 10 tenders for that particular class. Maybe not top 20. Happens.
The top 25. I like to look at which players were among the top 25 seniors in college as a barometer and which players outperformed their ranking relative to the others......

It’s wild how bad this list is, maybe 10% of these kids played or had any sort of impact. I’d love to see the noteworthy non ranked kids in this class.
More than 10% but politics is a big part of the top 100. The top 44 or so are engineered in based on UA selection, then you add in players getting a bump based on where they are committed.

Jack Bobzien was an important contributor to Denver’s

Will McNamara ended up transferring to Saint Joe’s,
wasn’t quite the impact player that one would expect,
at least based on these rankings.

Yeah, considerably more than 10%. I counted 31 who I remember being good players, and I'm sure I'm missing some, especially the ivies, because I'm not familiar with those teams.

Ryan Brown was 30? I think he did a little better than that

The NFL and pro teams spend tens of millions trying to figure out talent. Their hit ratio isn’t terrific.

IL talks to coaches about players, goes to some camps, goes to some games but is limited in resources. They used fo get impressions from some former players etc.

Sorry if this is repetitive

Yes, he was better than the 30th best player in his college graduating class, but I would say that was a pretty accurate ranking of Brown coming out of HS. That puts him in the better than top 1% of his HS graduating class.

TJ Sanders wasn’t a superstar but sure seems like he was 30-50 spots too low sitting at 100

Neubauer was a good player also. Matt Dunn and Ryan Ambler played above their ranking…..as did Matt Landis, Jack Kelly and Kylor Bellistri.

If you RE rank the class Gural, as you pointed out, is probably like top 30 or so. (Was going to say 20-25 but someone would probably bug out had I gone there)

Thought of Neubauer as one that jumped out as well.

I believe IL had a separate ranking for PG's for a few years..He was a PG at Hotchkiss (along with the oldest Kavanaugh)

I believe Bieda from Rutgers was a freshman that year,
Jack Bobzien was an important contributor to Denver’s
national title team,
Will McNamara ended up transferring to Saint Joe’s,
wasn’t quite the impact player that one would expect,
at least based on these rankings.
Michael Quinn was an AA at Yale. He was in this class.

Thanks on Quinn. I knew Kavanaugh was a PG. I had looked at this kind of analysis a few years ago. You were more likely to be a college AA if you were not in the top 50.

Meaning 51 to 1,000….may have been worse than 51 so I went conservative. Posted about it on the old lax forum.

It stands to reason that the field was more likely than 50. I based in on AA status as a senior and only 1,2, 3 team and USILA

ok. so more likely that aa's were > 50 rated, not that any player was more likely to be aa outside of top 50.

i recently looked at 2021 aa's from the 2018 class. it's skewed as the ivies didn't play, but something like 2 guys in the top 45+ were aa. 1 or 2 more just under 50.

7 were aa outside of top 100 (not rated).

best guy in the class probably? handley @ 57.

I only looked at seniors... this was from the 2017 USILA AA. It was 33.33% were top 50, 25% were 50 to 100 and 42% were not in the top 100.

24 Senior All Americans
8 of 24 seniors ranked in top 50
16 of 24 seniors ranked lower than 50
10 of 24 seniors not ranked in to 100
44 possible AA slots. 14 of the top 100 were senior AAs.
