Tough getting jobbed by the refs on your home field. Bwater had at least three goals called off, but that last one was about as mysterious as I’ve ever seen.

Watched the tape. No mystery at all. Offball cut to the crease, pushed by the defender, rolled into the crease before the shot. He is in the crease when the goal scores. Looks like the single side ref, where the shot came from, realized something was wrong when the lead signaled the goal.

It should have been flag down, immediate whistle. before the goal.

'Noke defender deliberately pushed the Bwater player in the back, to the ground - admittedly at least partially into the crease - as the ball was shot, and it had no impact on the goal. However, if you feel like you need to call the goal off, that should have been a push with possession to Bwater. Instead the refs rewarded the illegal push by giving possession to 'Noke. All around poor job by the refs.

Great team and coaching effort, brilliant performance by#16 at SVU. Well coached team who wanted it more, what else can you say.

So is HS the second best team in the ODAC this year or is this a a setback for W&L?

Not sure I even processed tonight’s game yet. W&L didn’t even look like they wanted to be there whereas SVU to their credit played all out for 60 full minutes. I would have hoped that even on a bad night with poor effort W&L would be talented enough to have won. All I can say is based on the eye test SVU was definitely the better team this evening in all facets. Not big on relative scores, and this was W&L’s second game. Mize’s first game back since the injury. I thought he looked tentative early on when the goalie came out for a gb behind the cage. I’m betting he will get it going over the next game or two. #16 for SVU just had a night and the whole team fed off of it. How about his shot w the shot clock winding down from the far side opposite the benches I believe upper corner. The good news is it’s only March 17, lots of time to get it together. This Saturday would be a good start.

Very very bad loss is what I’ll have to say... props to the knights for a huge upset.

Is that really a “huge upset”? SVU competed with 5 very good programs prior to playing W&L who hasn’t seen any actual competition in over a year. No wonder they showed up game ready. I get that on paper it’s an upset but are you really surprised Dannerman did them so dirty - when he’s been putting up those kinds of numbers for years now?
I would call that a Good early season loss.

Agree. The stiff competition SVU faced has allowed them to improve, especially on defense. DAMNitman was clearly the one to shut down.. 8 goals..against W&L..DAMN.
W&L needs to eat it raw and get after it because NOKE is looking at Saturday as opportunity..

I watch CNU v RandyMac. RM was in it 5 minutes into the 2nd before CNU ripped off 10 goals in 10 minutes.. RM mistakes/TOs turned into unsettled Transition for CNU. Dylan Rice, #20 and #22 on CNU attack are finishers..
LYN and CNU both 5-0
LYN defense probably won’t breakdown but they have to be careful on approaches. CNU tandum FO guys are good and will go to the goal.. Wing play will be key for possessions.
Still think 12-10 LYN but CNU will want the upset bad at home!

Terrible loss and #16 almost doubled his season totals in goals😂. He had 9 goals against the 4 teams HSC, Hornets, CNU and Salisbury. He almost totaled that having 8 against the Generals. I writing it off as a bad night and not saying the team is off on some awful trajectory. They will seek redemption in the game against Roanoke. I’d like to know if SVU was even scouted didn’t look it

It’s a big enough upset for people to wake up and be surprised. now SVU has gotten better but still a brand new team and who were handled easily by Lynchburg, CNU, Salisbury. Sydney beat them and put up 21 goals.

I will say that is not an ideal loss for W&L because of the # of goals the Knights have been giving up

But SVU is a good team. Bad to mediocre teams don't generally compete with H-SC, or with Lynchburg for most of the game (9-7 game with 2 minutes left in the third), or with Cabrini (17-15 finals, 14-13 headed into the 4th).

They have some studs on offense, and almost all of them are juniors and seniors, and that's with one fo tehri most prolific scorers in school history (Shawn Lamb) seemingly being a shell of his former self. Their goalkeeper is nice, the stats are misleading because he generally hasn't gotten much help from the people in front of him. They have a strong FOGO who is only a freshman.

Their defense has been ghastly all season though, it's by far their biggest weakness and at times it has frankly been disgraceful. To only put up 12 on them is pretty bad unless something seemed to click yesterday. Will be interesting to see what it's like going forward.

Tough crowd. If that’s a terrible loss I really can’t wait to hear about the “Great Win” they will have over the powerhouse Roanoke for their redemption game.

I certainly respect Roanoke as a program. They have had a great history. Having said that it’s been 8 long years since they’ve won a conference championship so beating them is important because of the historical significance, it’s a big rivalry. Considering the current state of their program I certainly wouldn’t call it a great win. Everyone’s had a big layoff, 5th year seniors abound everywhere, the portal has been an option, most of the current freshman lost their senior year of high school development and I’m sure players who have had covid still have some lingering effects. I’m just glad there are games, this season will have a big asterisk attached to it( look at the NESCAC and Centennial) . I’m still picking Lynchburg to win the ODAC and Salisbury to win the title.

SVU has continued to improve because of good coaching and a willingness of its players to sacrifice for the good of the team. Shawn Lamb moved from playing Attack to Defensive Midfielder last year where the team was 7-1 before the season was canceled. He played D-mid up until the Salisbury game this year when he was moved back to attack. He played O-mid in the game against W&L. (He is not the only player who has been asked to play different positions) The game against W&L was won in the middle of the field where SVU had a 41-25 ground ball advantage and between the pipes where the goalies faced nearly the same number of shots on goal. Danneman had a great game, but 8 goals and 1 assist is not incredibly surprising as he was averaging over 5 points a game last year. What is surprising is Schmidt being held to 2 assists when he was averaging over 5.5 points a game last year. Defensive problems can be masked when a team is possessing and scoring and the improvement over the last 2 years at the X has greatly helped. (it's nice to not be starting on defense 70-80% of the time).
It was just a matter of time before SVU picked up a win against a ranked team and it almost happened against the defending National Champions. I think last year's team was heading for a break out season, and the schedule they are playing this year (arguably one of the toughest in the country) is only going to make them better in the future.
W&L will be fine. They will learn from this game and realize they need a little more fire and desire come game time.

That's one hell of a luxury to put a guy like Lamb at defensive midfield and have your offense seemingly not suffer a single bit, at least statistically.

Is W&L the next Washington College? WAC was in the final four not too long ago. How many other programs can say that? Salisbury, Tufts, RIT and a few other one-offs. Only 1 ODAC school can claim anything that successful in the last 10 years.

You need to stop with this stuff. You've done this on two different threads. There's more kids playing HS ball then ever, which means plenty of talent to go around. Two teams that were BRAND NEW 10 years ago have caught up. If you think Bridgewater and SVU are bad teams, you haven't been paying attention and maybe way too stuck in the past. Lacrosse aint reserved for the W&Ls and Middelbury's of the world anymore. It's a good thing for the game of lacrosse. Heck, CNU is less than 20 years old as a varsity program and look where they are! Widen the lense a little bit.

End rant - time to be positive - thanks for always driving the conversation around ODAC lax. You keep this place alive and have a ton of great insight and passion for W&L / ODAC lax. Keep it up!

ODAC Rankings:
1- Lynchburg
2- HSC
3- W&L
4- Noke
5- Bridgewater
6-RMC

big drop off for the rest.

7/8/9 - Guilford/Shenandoah/VWC
10- Ferrum
11- Randolph

Hindsight is 20/20 but it would be great to add SVU instead of Averett.

Very good post, though I think Dehuntshigwa is an outstanding poster and I look forward to reading whatever he writes. The game is spreading out across the country and the balance of power is shifting. Great coaches can create great programs and improve the perception of their schools as well as promote the game to the next generation. Have watched this happen at Lynchburg over the last two decades. W&L is an excellent school with a storied LAX program....proud to have them in the conference.
