I'm not sure I would blame the teams...they aren't the ones in the league office making decisions on whether they get to play or not. Teams have every right to be angry if they can't play while others can.
If people on teams that were cancelled are upset, they probably shoulda attended a school that more overtly values athletics.
They knew what they were getting into when they signed up for the NESCAC. Academics and politics are a much higher priority at those schools.

Not just the NESCAC but Haverford and Swarthmore are more concerned about the optics of having sports this spring than the welfare of their students who pay a hefty sum. This abridged version of a lacrosse season put together by the NESCAC Presidents was a weak attempt to appease the athletes. These students have lost 2 years that they will never get back. I spoke to a Harvard player recently who was pretty stoic about the experience but you could tell they will be looking back with a lot of “ what if” type thoughts in years to come. Sad

And I love NESCAC lacrosse as much of the next guy. It's sad. I'm sad for those kids who maybe didnt think too far beyond it. Noone EXPECTED a global pandemic.

But the reality is, no matter what, buyer beware. Be realistic and informed about your school's profile and especially their leadership. If you don't agree with those things, you probably wont agree with the decisions the leaders make in times of crisis or when the school's back is against the wall. Regardless of the crisis.

C'mon, hindsight is 20/20. Kind of silly for a 2017-2020 HS grad to think that the league that routinely has 3-5 teams ranked and has played in most of the championship games over the past decade would actually care so little for its athletes. Going forward, that may certainly be the case I agree.

But regardless of lax success, Which schools value:

Athletics as a whole?
Lacrosse specifically?
Academics?
Political activism?

Ask those questions about the top teams in each conference:

Amherst (NESCAC)
Salisbury (CAC)
RIT (Liberty)
Gburg (Cent)
Stevenson (MAC)
Lynchburg (ODAC)

Then tell me if you’re surprised by the decisions made this year.

Hmm...

In what universe is Amherst the top team in the NESCAC? Tufts has won nine of the last ten NESCAC championships and three NCAA championships in that span. Wesleyan has won a NESCAC title and a national title. Come on.

Yea you gotta get your head straight...Amherst should not be in that list. They've dropped to the bottom after the events that followed the past year (purely hiring based on race)....shows you how they value athletics and lacrosse

They’re definitely not at the bottom. My guess is that Amherst will probably slide back to where they were in the early Thompson days: a mid-level NESCAC program. It’s too good of a school/brand to not have some success.

Meanwhile, Tufts has 20 goals midway through the third quarter against Conn.

I don't know the Tufts defense well - did they clear the bench early?

No, not a great day for the Tufts D (I thought) and the Camel fogo won most third Q face offs (it seemed). Tufts put its back-up GK to start 3rd, although he played well, there were several rebounds converted.

Helfrich 14-34, Hesse 0-8. Despite the accolades, good faceoff guys have been a problem over the last few years for Tufts.

Williams 18-5 over Hamilton, Lund with 8 and 2, otherwise lots of new names scoring for the Ephs.

The fact that they put up that many goals on Conn and had as bad a day as they did at the faceoff X is pretty wild. That said, I agree the defense looks nowhere near as sharp as it did last year after two games. It’s so early in the season and obviously the offensive tempo dictates a lot of the lapses on the back end, but it’s not good enough. This game was never in doubt and there was some bench clearing towards the end. This team is built to score and the offensive output at times looks effortless.

10-3 Tufts late in first. But posted this because I count 14 players on Wesleyan's bench.

Strange year but Wesleyan (specifically their Defense) looks like a shell of the team they were in '18.
