Oh - I agree. The guy on the left was kind of making the same point when he offered the left handed compliment that Hopkins has no real stars. The 12 players leaving UVA for example also has a greater impact than the 13 leaving Hopkins (though obviously UVA is the team these days that reloads and not rebuilds). When you objectively value Hopkins losses from last year's team you come up with these in the order of importance IMO - (and possible mitigations):
- Angelus' 40+ assists - likely has to be done by committee - though you never know until you know - I don't recall any posts when Angelus was running around as a midfielder for Petro and then Milliman - putting up decent numbers but nothing spectacular - where someone said - "Just put him at attack and you'll have a Top 10 all time assists"
- Ierlan's AA caliber year in goal - you have a transfer from a high quality program (don't we know it) with similar career numbers to Chayse - and he is being challenged apparently by a senior
- The graduation en masse of the SSDM Corp - 3 transfers with experience - several athletic bodies that were on the team last year - 2 or more of the incoming freshmen slated for that role - again maybe some growing pains but many bodies to throw at the problem and with the exception of Eric MacDonald they are all 5'11' or better and most are listed at around 200 lbs.
- Senior captain on close D - led the team in CTOs - probably the biggest weakness was transition - you lose good players to eligibility every year - and you have two AA caliber players to start with on close D - should have multiple options - might have some miscues early in the season - might have an opportunity to be faster and more athletic by the end
- Degnon's 40ish goals - What you lose in experience you gain in a much quicker release with Chauvette - I will be surprised if there's a big drop off
- Offensive mid-field production - lost one 1st line middie - one second line middie and one wing part time middie - 17/4 - 11/5 amd 4/3 are not irreplaceable - the biggest impact is you don't have the luxury of Chauvette and Degnon on the field at the same time and therefore you really have to replace 2 second middies - maybe this is a bigger impact - not because of what you lost but the uncertainty of what you have behind the curtain i.e. will Hackler play offense? will Evans return or exceed his 2023 form? A multiude of sophs and freshmen that have never played a second of real DI lax.

It's no list to be sneezed at but it's nothing that hasn't happened before and for this year at least Hopkins had the portal to help salve some of the wounds.
