Test came back negative for d-in-law and her 6 mo. pregnant friend. All's well that ends well. Both were a little concerned (d-in-law can be a little dramatic too...kind of a female trait, I guess) but that's pretty understandable given the state of mind of most of the country.

lots of schools are on record as having plans to open in the fall.
Most of the name brand, high end, residential colleges "plan" to be back on campus in the fall. The adverse consequences are just too severe -- hard to get parents to stroke $50-75k checks for just a subscription to www.fancycollege.com.
The plan for my kid's school is:
every kid has to test negative before arriving
start early
phased move in and orientation
no fall break
no travel away from campus allowed
no parents weekend
all typical double dorm rooms converted to singles
class rooms SD-ed
dining halls SD-ed with lots of grab n go, online ordering
all in-person classes will also be simulcast/video
additional residence halls secured to be used as quarantine facilities
one way signs and traffic flow on all paths around campus
in person classes end at TG break
kids do not return after TG
kids finish classes and take exams from home
It is a huge undertaking. But very much TBD how long the kids will actually be able to stay. All that careful SD planning is going to get blown away on the first weekend of parties and socializing.
Nothing said yet about the big time sports. But the bumpy road so far at Clemson, LSU, KSU, Texas, etc. makes me skeptical.
