icymi, sweden had a v good week with their case fatalities in relative terms.
their 4th week in a row after peak. by memory, it was:
680
477
550
~450
high 200s this week.
haven't seen whether extra protections at elder care facilities are working yet, or if the spread is decreasing as they do little testing (supposedly ramping!!). the last several weeks' icu numbers predicted a decline imo.
i continue to be interested in their outcomes as i thought for a long time we would be practicing sweden-like measures once we got out of our caves. with the attendant differences between cultures, yada.
gives me hope. thought the burn may be slower and it may still be and maybe jump some next week as this seems like too big a drop in a week or 2. we shall see.
We haven't heard much about Sweden recently. Here's how they are doing:
Deaths per million of population:
Italy 568
Sweden 484
France 451
USA 357
Germany 106
Denmark 103
Finland 59
Norway 45
Iceland 29
UW now projects 8,534 deaths by August 4. Which would be 845. Even if they don't get near that projection, I think we now know the results of their experiment.
and the deaths per million for those ages 40 years......and younger??????
exactly
open UP.....and say aaahhhh
Don't forget to put your mask on in public, R3, assuming you care about the more vulnerable among us.
The "vulnerable" shouldn't be OUT in public.......or, rather. What the heck.....is it really "living" sipping your own drool.......
Was there a pandemic in the late 60's,,,,,,?????
exactly
and suddenly, the entire world has to shut down because a handful of old people are dying????? So selfish ,the old are. Same crowd that allowed love canal, Nashua river, etc. awesomer.
we love mamee, taking care of grandma at the nursing home.....awesomer. We visit a few times a year. A few
So I guess R3 doesn't "need no stinkin mask". Good to know.
Do also know what is good to know?
CPR
You going to do it to me, or anyone else, when they are frothing at the mouth, lying on the ground, because the LACK of oxygen, from wearing a mask, caused a HEART ATTACK
seriously, who is going to do CPR in the fear porn factory society? Dr. Fauci is in rare form this week........something about a "vaccine' possibly being ready?
Regarding masks...
From OSHA...who is trying to juggle the debacle. And there have been instances where workers are passing out from mask wearing.
Employers have the discretion to determine whether to allow employees to wear cloth face coverings in the workplace based on the specific circumstances present at the work site. For some workers, employers may determine that wearing cloth face coverings presents or exacerbates a hazard. For example, cloth face coverings could become contaminated with chemicals used in the work environment, causing workers to inhale the chemicals that collect on the face covering. Over the duration of a work shift, cloth face coverings might also become damp (from workers breathing) or collect infectious material from the work environment (e.g., droplets of other peoples' infectious respiratory secretions). Workers may also need to use PPE that is incompatible with the use of a cloth face covering (e.g., an N95 filtering facepiece respirator).
And there aren't ways to deal with these issues, yet wear masks most of the time???
This is the Trumpworld...masks are 'discretionary' so the heck with masks...
Not surprised by your response. I suppose OSHA is in the tank for Trump?
Are there political appointees in charge of OSHA?
google "OSHA political appointees"; look at the turmoil there, reporting up to Acosta at Labor.
I don't think civil servants are 'in the tank' for Trump, but the political appointees most certainly are.
So, we have this wishy washy public statement from OSHA, instead of definition of how to deal with the issues raised (I'm assuming that the issues are real, not manufactured).
Do you really doubt that the civil servants aren't chafing to provide more definitive guidelines?
So that must mean you do indeed believe in the deep state, if you believe for one moment that OSHA is wishy-washy b/c of Trump appointees. You must be eating your waffles again. It's wishy-washy because this we have never had to do this in history, in an era with so much information and so little fact.
I suppose you just do not get it, because your only physical exertion demand is that of your chosen setting on your peleton.
if my hips would allow it, I'd be still running in the woods and playing lots of racquet sports...sadly, that's no more. Thankfully, the bike suffices to get some endorphins.
I'm super cognizant of the difficulty these folks, OSHA, CDC, FDA, etc have in dealing with these very novel issues...But I know for a certainty as well that these institutions are
always subject to a lot of political pressure, lobbyists, etc...
I can go on and on, and bore you to tears probably, on how stupid our food policies are because of these pressures.
This is true, Administration to Administration.
And right now, we have a particular set of characters who actually think that's the way it
should be, how decisions
should be made. With loyalty to Trump being the #1 requirement through which everything must be processed, no matter how stupid.
In this case, I'm assuming there are legitimate issues to be considered, so get specific about how to deal with them rather than default to the Trumpist, it's 'discretionary'...with the overarching message that we really don't care, or worse, it's unpatriotic to wear a mask coming from the very top...
