Speaking of fall ball...any word on date and teams for the HEADstrong scrimmage this fall?
Re: Johns Hopkins 2023
Ya that was my point even if not articulated well. I believe Duke does a great job of conditioning, culture building and developing skills with their own fall ball league that only includes Duke.HopFan16 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 19, 2022 10:28 amOn the other hand, doesn't Tillman/Maryland have among the toughest fall regimens in the country? It's been called military-style by more than one person close to the program. I think it's a lot more important for conditioning, building culture and relationships, and setting the tone for the spring than it is for playing games or figuring out your lineups.
Re: Johns Hopkins 2023
I am aware of a study looking at the prevalence of knee injuries in Native Americans athletes (it happens at a greater frequency) but not that they don’t respond as well to treatment. That is Jimmy the Greek talkHopFan16 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 19, 2022 11:54 amKinda? The offense will be younger as Epstein, Keogh, and DeSimone are replaced with some combination of Marquis, Collison, English, Maher, Melendez, etc. But veterans Angelus and Degnon are back, in addition to guys like Grimes, Peshko, McDermott, and Evans, who all have experience.
Defense might be even more experienced. Smith and Szuluk return as starters — the third close D spot will probably be someone younger (Todaro? Maybe Rodgers, though he's not exactly young.) Martin and Jaronski return as SSDMs, need to find another few guys there (Glassmeyer, if healthy finally?). Mazzone and Caracciolo come in and are as experienced as they come.
There seems to be some confusion as to whether or not Narewski is back but if so that's a pretty capable three-headed monster at FOGO with him, Callahan, and Dunn.
The attack will look different and probably be a bit younger, and they need to identify another SSDM or two. But it doesn't strike me as a super young team unless many more freshmen/sophomores in addition to the ones listed above end up earning PT.
As for Cooke's injury — it's a fact that Native Americans face discrimination in the US healthcare system and often have worse outcomes than the general population but I have never heard of any perception that they "do not respond as well to the surgery." There is no biological basis for that whatsoever. That just sounds like racism. Without knowing the kid's situation it's impossible to know whether or not he's getting the PT/recovery/training that's required to get back on the field.

Re: Johns Hopkins 2023
here's some science?

natives have looser knee joints, according to these cohorts. that could be an issue pre-injury and post-surgery?
obviously, it doesn't get into the rehab part.

team doing a really nice job w/their instagram. Great stuff w/grimes, dyer, the freshmen class, and HF16's guy Marquis. the drone footage of the Ireland stuff is incredibly good. Laxfi used to dm me on the old forum about the old days when you guys would follow the team through vhs tapes.

Surprised no mention of this yet but the team posted on Instagram/Twitter that Hawley is coming back for a 5th year. He has dealt with a bunch of injuries in his career but when healthy has been a solid contributor as a shortie on the faceoff wings. Always good for a clutch GB or two. I don't think this will take away PT on offense from any of the younger midfielders.

Narewski also officially backHopFan16 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 25, 2022 11:42 am Surprised no mention of this yet but the team posted on Instagram/Twitter that Hawley is coming back for a 5th year. If he's back to full health that gives us really good FO depth. Not a lot of teams can say they have three different guys all with 50%+ seasons on their resumes
