John Kelly loyally supported his elected Commander in Chief & agreed with many of his policies.CU88a wrote: ↑Mon Oct 02, 2023 7:30 pmBut they all "like his policies!"a fan wrote: ↑Mon Oct 02, 2023 6:37 pm Here ya go, fellas. Why not resign from the party, and tell the National R party who's in control?
Why are all of you still Republicans, putting this man up to lead your party:
“What can I add that has not already been said?” Kelly said, when asked if he wanted to weigh in on his former boss in light of recent comments made by other former Trump officials. “A person that thinks those who defend their country in uniform, or are shot down or seriously wounded in combat, or spend years being tortured as POWs are all ‘suckers’ because ‘there is nothing in it for them.’ A person that did not want to be seen in the presence of military amputees because ‘it doesn’t look good for me.’ A person who demonstrated open contempt for a Gold Star family – for all Gold Star families – on TV during the 2016 campaign, and rants that our most precious heroes who gave their lives in America’s defense are ‘losers’ and wouldn’t visit their graves in France.
“A person who is not truthful regarding his position on the protection of unborn life, on women, on minorities, on evangelical Christians, on Jews, on working men and women,” Kelly continued. “A person that has no idea what America stands for and has no idea what America is all about. A person who cavalierly suggests that a selfless warrior who has served his country for 40 years in peacetime and war should lose his life for treason – in expectation that someone will take action. A person who admires autocrats and murderous dictators. A person that has nothing but contempt for our democratic institutions, our Constitution, and the rule of law.
“There is nothing more that can be said,” Kelly concluded. “God help us.”
That's why he lasted as long as he did. Our nation owes Gen John Kelly a debt of gratitude.

In a way, I envy those whose religious beliefs are a sufficient bulwark against this tide — “It’s all part of Dog’s plan.”
And, if that is what is necessary for them to cope with the vicissitudes of “conscious” existence, great. Just keep that shti to themselves.

You really need to ask yourself how & why Trump has so much support.
Re: 2024
Oh, I have. And I'd tell you why, but you don't want to hear it.
You are physically unable to explain why Trump has so much support, without bringing up the Dems or "the Libs".
Because you're unwilling to look in the mirror, and examine your own party, OS. You can't do it.

You won't even condemn or criticize his comments and actions against veterans (especially dead and wounded one) and military officers.
Just yesterday in an interview he used Nazi references to migrants "poisoning the blood" of this country - right out of Mein Kampf. You won't even criticize any of his bad acts while you play this disingenuous game of Who me? I didn't vote for him.

I'll tell you. The problem with you -- which you see expressed by several people on this board -- is that you particularly should know better. It is really disgraceful. You relentlessly prop up a guy that has completely normalized race baiting and dog-whistling in our politics; a guy that has convinced millions of people that violence is the natural extension of political discord; a guy that is cavalier at best and dangerous at worst with national security matters (talking about submarines with Australians, showing off documents, etc.). Your service to the country is something we all appreciate. Dog boy will vote for him again anyway.
I just refuse to ignore what his enemies have done, & are continuing to do, to take him out.
The ends do not justify the means.
I'm not going to join the Amen Chorus of you hypocrites who were cheering for anything to sabotage the success of a legally elected President & Commander-in-Chief. Now, You're making him a martyr & hero to millions. You are fools.
As an 18 year old, I was pelted with tomatoes & called a baby killer. Then I watched DC burn.
Trump does not scare me, ...but some of you zealots do.

Re: 2024
Yeah, some people are zealous about protecting and supporting American constitutional democracy and the rule of law.
On the other hand, some people are not. Freedom for me, not thee.
And some actively seek a quite different America.
They want to reduce individual liberties and rights and benefits for those who don't look like them, don't worship like them, don't love like them, don't speak the same language as they do. They see the rule of law as a tool to suppress the rights and freedoms of the 'other'. They seek the control by the their minority of what has become a demographic and ideological majority.
And yes, there are many millions of such who are the rock solid base of Trump's populist, "strong man" support.
You are correct, however, in noting that much of the animus of these authoritarian-friendly Americans has been directed as opposition to those who stand in their way, whether DEM or "RINO". They respond to questions about their views with "If we don't fight, we will lose our country". And they mean that not just at the ballot box.
For these people, any lie, any breach of law, any act of violence can be justified by this existential view of their power in society.
Thus, Trump, who personifies the very worst of these views, gives permission for them to release their fears, resentments, and bigotries openly.

Thanks; this is effectively confirmation of what I have just said: the rhetoric of violence and gunplay as a legitimate political tool is not a concern to you, and those of us who express alarm about it, alarm about it being largely unchecked, we are "zealots." Those of us alarmed by the former President's treatment of national security information...zealots. Those of us concerned about his obvious lack of fitness for office...zealots. Those of us concerned about his use of race-baiting and "blood purity" language...zealots. Those of us disgusted that he views wounded veterans and dead veterans as suckers and losers...zealots. Good to know your cult doesn't scare you.old salt wrote: ↑Fri Oct 06, 2023 7:54 amKismet wrote: ↑Fri Oct 06, 2023 6:43 amThat's your opinion.
I didn't vote for him.You both should worry about things that matter, not just rhetoric.Seacoaster(1) wrote: ↑Fri Oct 06, 2023 7:20 amI'll tell you. Your service to the current dialogue is a disgrace.old salt wrote: ↑Thu Oct 05, 2023 9:51 pmI never voted for Trump & never will.Seacoaster(1) wrote: ↑Thu Oct 05, 2023 7:08 am Sure, his policies:

And thanks for storytime with El Saltino. When I was 18 I was getting my GED and working to make my own way in the world and not being a burden to my single mom who had 6 other kids to worry about. Sorry you didn't like other folks' rough political expression, tough guy.

History is replete with examples of doing what you suggest. Pretty incredible coming from a former military officer and USNA graduate.old salt wrote: ↑Fri Oct 06, 2023 7:54 amKismet wrote: ↑Fri Oct 06, 2023 6:43 amThat's your opinion. As for calling out hypocrites - you should know as you are an expert in the field.
