Apparently the lacrosse karma gods don’t like stick checks on FO guys. It clearly hurt the Terps today. Will it haunt them the whole season?

Chris Kavanagh beat Ajax Zappitello for the game tying goal and
Pat Kavanagh beat Brett Makar for the game-winning goal. Best duo in all of college lacrosse and most unguardable.

If you slow this down it clearly shows the ND player in the crease before the ball goes in the goal.

He’s in the crease before it crosses the line,

the problem is the not optimal angle,

this will add fuel to the fire.

Well,

if they could have run out the clock, then yeah,

also not sure what happened on that last Terp possession,
had the ball to win it, course not much time left in
regulation.

This is one of the biggest disgraces in the history of this sport. We need to change how we officiate the last minute of the game immediately. You have to question the legitimacy of Notre Dame’s win and the rest of this season at this point

That’s how this works right?

Well… that, and the Terps have now officially been named 2023 national champions.

So.. missed the last quarter and overtime (daughter had a dance competition), but from what I watched it looked like Tills played the second midfield pretty sparingly in the first three quarters; didn’t see much of Signorello, though I guess Spanos got some good run. Of course you want to have Long and Murphy out there as much as possible, but it probably cost them late in the game.

Interesting that Whittier got some minutes, and looks like Siracusa may be back to having to earn minutes.

All in all, not the worst thing in the world to take an L here… Terps are clearly still gelling, and will benefit from this experience later in the season. Notre Dame is impressive. UVa-Notre Dame will be must see TV.

The Irish certainly celebrated like they'd won the (mythical) national championship.

Do the Kavanaughs have the worst celebrations in all of college lacrosse? I don’t think I could even cheer for them if they were Terps…just insufferable.

Terps won last year with a ton of pressure by the end of the season. Pressure is now on this year's super teams Notre Dame and UVA. I doubt ND wants a rematch with the Terps in the tournament (assuming MD makes it which is not a given).

jrn19 wrote: Sat Mar 04, 2023 4:20 pm Erksa showed some real flashes breaking down his man. Might be time to put some more on his plate. As mentioned above, setting more picks above cage. I feel bad for Long, he looked like he just lost his confidence or mentally he just sort of got tired along with his body I don’t know. There’s turnovers and then there’s what happened in OT. It was rough.
Erksa didn't seem bothered by Fake at all. He did, though, drop 3 or 4 passes. That Long feed across the the field was a great pass. Erksa missed it. Maybe because Long threw it from the shade into the sun, Erksa had a hard time tracking; but he just missed it.

Ruppel gave up 3 straight goals that you'd think he'd make later in the year. Came off his post, got beat low, and then that flailing, falling down shot from 7 yards...he just didn't see react to it. He gave up 2 or 3 alley dodge shots that were stick side high. He has to make those.

The Terps seem like they know they have to get up a lot of shots. They've been playing a run of good goalies so far, and they look like they're placing shots instead of shooting (except for Murphy). Kelly today was aiming the ball. So they have to get up a lot of shots. Wierman gives them that luxury.

Not real concerning now. Not many teams would play Notre Dame that close, and the Terps are already 100% improved vs 3 weeks ago.

Super Team, singular.

Just UVA right now,

unless you’re willing to include Cornell.

Whatever it is, it's the worst run of shooting they've had if not in the Tillman era - which I'm p certain it is - definitely in the Peak Tillman run (2016-now.)

23% shooting against Loyola-Cuse-Princeton-ND. 63% of the shots are going on cage which is a good percentage, so there's definitely a strong goalie element to it. The worst ACC/B1G/Ivy shooting team last year was UNC at somewhere between 26-28%. 23% is staggeringly low. A regressing to the mean is coming to some degree. They do lack outside shooters though. I think the question is whether we bounce back to somewhere around low 30 percent or so, or whether it's like high 20s percentage wise and if that's enough to be a contender with Wierman. We'll find out over the next month or so.
