yeah, Cheney did the whole "actually run the country as chief of staff" thing, and wanted to try "run the country as VP" on for size.

there is also "run the country as chairman of Halliburton/General Dynamics/Eli Lilly/Goldman Sachs" - he checked one of those boxes too..... 3:) bootys1

Except for the fact that Congress has not declared a war since maybe WWI. But if you want to see what that would have looked like, here is is. I bolded the ones where the House was controlled by the other party. It swings one to the dems and three to the GOP making it 5 and 5. But, depending on how you want to look at it, the "wars" under GOP control of the house are in the time period since the house essentially ceded its war powers to the POTUS - that doesn't reflect wall on the GOP, but it doesn't make them the party of war)

WWI - Clark - Dem
WWII - Bankhead - Dem
Korea - Rayburn - Dem
Vietnam - McCormack - Dem
Gulf War - Foley - DEM (GOP)
Afghanistan - Hassert - GOP
Iraq - Hassert - GOP
Lybia - Boehner - GOP (Dem)
Syria/ISIS - Boehner - GOP (Dem)
Yemen - Ryan - GOP (Dem)

Interesting. So, the only wars post Vietnam (if we start Vietnam with Johnson?) with a Dem at the helm were with a GOP Congress.

But, really, this argument is a waste of brain cells.
Are we really saying that WWI or WWII were actually "started by" any US President??? Really?
Do we really think that if it had been a GOP President on Dec 7, WWII would never have had American involvement??

It's also ridiculous to put several of these wars on a particular President, especially given the involvement of several.
Eisenhower had us into Vietnam, Kennedy increased, then Johnson increased greatly in order to assuage GOP hawks in Congress in exchange for his domestic agenda, then anti-war Eugene McCarthy's early primary win caused Johnson to drop out, but then McCarthy dropped out, anti-war Bobby Kennedy's assassination led to VP Humphrey to represent the Dems almost by default, with Wallace peeling off the old racist part of the Dem Party, and Nixon promised 'peace with honor' but doubled down big time before finally turning tail. Are we really going to blame one party but not the other for Vietnam?

Silly debate.

Yes, Iraq 2 looks to have been a big mistake, diverting from a very necessary confrontation in Afghanistan post 911. Libya looks like a mistake too. Unintended consequences.

But to argue over which party is more likely to get us into or out of wars?
Not serious, IMO.

I didn't realize the Obama foundation was just "given" the land from a public park in Chicago. Wonder what the judge will rule today?

Meanwhile, is ANYONE wondering where the $230 MILLION in donations (2017) came from? A handful of people donationing $25 million....each. And NO ONE CARES who donates???????

https://www.obama.org/wp-content/upload ... e-copy.pdf

NYC will give the tRump library Battery Park for his museum. Makes complete sense.

Good thing it is a NON-PROFIT organization, 232MIL revenue less 21MIL expenses leaves a pretty tidy profit. To pay taxes on that would be outrageous. It isn't like they are Amazon of some private company like that, a company who we criticize when they don't pay taxes after taking all legal deductions. And I am sure those donations, all 232MIL of them, were given without any expectation of anything in return.

Well.....speaking of Amazon......a "donation" of $8 million in amazon stock/shares IS shown on the 990 form.

Let's focus on the PUBLIC property that was just "given" to the Obama foundation. A public park suddenly becomes a "private" place?

And then Barry runs around the world (must be where the million ins "travel" allocations go towards) telling US all not to take & take & take.

$2.2 million it "travel expenses" ????? $3.1 for "conventions"

That's $55,000 for 40 people in travel expenses. Where the F are these people traveling too? And, what conventions are they attending?

They travelled to Chicago, of course. Long distance, and 5 star hotels, plus meals and entertainment, it adds up.

On the other hand, this money used to go to the Clinton Foundation.

Total Revenues, Clinton Foundation
2013: 295Mil
2014: 338Mil
2015: 299Mil
2016: 225Mil
2017: 56Mil

I am sure they were not expecting anything in return, right?

Since the pretends are glued to the "intellectual" porn........this stuff happens write in front of your face.

I have been suspicious of Dennis Bahn for a long time before this indictment. Because Denis Bahn was working for Collier International, Colliers International could be said to be a lease for a UN building. It is a company that receives rent from the United Nations. I used to ask the United Nations if Dennis Bahn could work at Colliers International.

This ties into decades old nepotism, John Kerry, the TAATS that made ....and continue make........ravenous fortunes in Vietnam.

tRump difference? He's a blowhard celebrity playboy that happens to be beyond crude.

What, never heard of this bribery case? exactly

This is just one example of a deep rooted problem with our Congress. It covers many topics we discuss , that need serious reform. Especially when it comes to foreign influence on elections. I have pointed out, for many, many years, that foreign bundlers, PAC's etc. are influencing our elections. But, it is completely ignored on these forums and out in the world.

This is from an article posted on the immigrant thread: (by my respectful friend, jhu72)

Customs and Border Protection has also come under fire for a $297 million contract it awarded to Accenture, a government contractor brought in to improve the agency's hiring process. The company was supposed to receive $40,000 per new hire.

The contract was awarded in November 2017. By October 2018, the company had completed only two new hires but been paid more than $13.6 million, according to a Homeland Security inspector general report. Customs and Border Protection defended the contract, arguing that Accenture had reformed the agency's hiring practices and had completed 22 hires by December 2018
.

Who is Accenture?
Yet another NYSE traded stock, (ACN) that fits my criteria of earning 85% of it's revenue from tax dollars, and my pipe dream of limiting salaries by a 20 to 1 ratio, highest to lowest. Of course, the majority of stock is owned by institutional investors, hiding members of Congress stock ownership. The usual suspects like Vanguard, Fidelity and interestingly, the California Public Employees fund. Where is the outrage? Where is Gov. Brown, Sen. Kamalia Harris stand? Stock ownership of a company locking up families :o

And this is why its on the TAATS thread. The donations. (click on the party split by cycle tab)

https://www.opensecrets.org/pacs/lookup ... =C00300707

Pretty even split between the D's and R's, which is usually the case. How you (collective) are not calling your US Representative and Senator up and complaining about this fraud committed by Accenture is telling. Further, we don't hear one peep from any of these politicians. All this smokeNmirrors focus on Russia collusion.

Issues like this, IMHO, ARE the issue. The problem. It's needs to be discussed. Contact your Congress person
