Class S: all chalk - it will come down to St Joes, Weston and New Fairfield

Class L: all chalk but the margins of victory are wow (Darien beats Ridgefield 11-2, Staples over GBury 19-4, New Canaan beats Wilton 8-2, Prep beat Simsbury 23-7). Always impressed with New Canaan defense but to hold Wilton to 2 goals is impressive

Class M: all chalk - Cheshires tourney to lose

So out of 52 games, 49 have been chalk so far.
Maybe that was the prom factor!

CIAC just postponed today's slate of semi-finals for both boys and girls to tomorrow because of poor air quality.

Looking at the results yesterday, it remains chalk and the higher seed has won 55 out of 58 times so I remain impressed by the laxnumbers algorithm

Class L

1 Prep beat 4 New Canaan 12-7
2 Staples beat 3 Darien 9-8

I think Prep beats Staples but it will be a good game

Class M

1 Cheshire beat 4 Guilford 13-3
2 Daniel Hand beat 3 Notre Dame 12-11

Cheshire wins this one

Class S

1 St Joes beats 4 NW Catholic 20-9
2 Weston beats 3 New Fairfield 14-5

Tough to say but maybe St Joes?

That sounds right to me, should be 2 great games and unfortunately one probably not but would love to see Hand play out of their minds. Staples can definitely play with Prep and wouldn’t be shocking to see them win. Don’t know much about the S teams this year, St. Joe’s program has been building, whole state is probably hoping they don’t follow their football trajectory.

So would they. ;)
They are 0-6 in championship finals in CIAC era and 0-9 since the program started in 1976 (all losses to Wilton).
If nothing else, they're due. :D

A few of those losses were to New Canaan (some pretty tight) but they are indeed O’fer. Perennially one of the best non FC teams in the state but usually lack the quality depth to full out a state final. This isn’t one of their strongest teams but have played hard throughout.

CIAC Tournament Results if you'd like a walk down memory lane. They indeed had NC three years in a row.

One of the stronger Hand teams in the CIAC-era was in 2005/2006 (led by Ryan Nizolek-UVA), unfortunate to catch a Darien buzz saw in the final in 06. Not sure when the other 3 finals were pre-CIAC

I'll help you out - 1977, 1978, 1979. Lost to Wilton all three years in the finals.

2006 was a strong team but they got out-coached in the final and distracted by some extracurricular activity. They were often an undisciplined group and their good fortune finally ran out. Similar experience getting dusted by Greenwich during the regular season in a game they should have won. That said they did beat both New Canaan and Wilton that year.

I think Stjoes has been strong for quite some time. I believe they have won Class S a few times, get moved up to Class M and then they move back down to Class S. Rinse wash repeat. Disclaimer: this is from memory and I havent looked this up to be sure...

Strong in S but not on the big boy FCIAC level. In football, even in the years they were still in S, they were one of the top teams in the state, evidenced by moving up and up and still winning. I don’t see them becoming a Prep level lax team but who knows, they clearly value sports.

I would agree. Definitely not big boy level. Ive always said that basically all lacrosse in CT is west of route 8 (with the exception of Cheshire sometimes).

Yes. NWC should also be in M but did they decide that or are they being moved? Is Weston moving up too? I heard that East Catholic may be moving back to S?

NWC and St Joes to M are automatic by rule. EC may have one more year in M and would then drop to S if they do not make the semi-finals in M next year
