5800 would be an acceptable number if the 4 teams attending were Vermont, Robert Morris, Richmond, Denver. 3 Ivy teams + Rutgers there's no excuses. All the Ivy teams have friends/family/alumni players all in the area or living in Manhattan and players natives of Northern NJ and Fairfield County CT, and then the next radius of NJ, eastern PA and New England fills up another large chunk of the participating players hometowns. It's simply WAY too low of a number. As the poster above states, 4400 for the state of Florida HS Final 4 is really spectacular! Wow I'm blown away by that.hofstrapride1 wrote: ↑Wed May 25, 2022 9:36 pmHow do you consider Yale, Princeton, Penn and Penn ideal teams attendance wise? Yes they are all geographically close to Long Island but it isn't exactly Maryland, Cuse or Hopkins in terms of major fanbases.MDralphie wrote: ↑Wed May 25, 2022 9:04 pm Hofstra attendance was terrible for QF especially considering the teams playing. Really sad. I’m heading to Hartford Friday morning and have been to every final since 2011 except 2017 when my Terps won…figures! As the game is spreading I think you need a a area many can reach without the lousy LI traffic. Major airports, hotels need to be close. I cannot remember for sure but I thought there was a huge crowd 2016 in Philly. Thought 2011 was similar Baltimore. Audi field in DC was a great venue for the game but the parking….
Lighten up. Way to get offended.
First off inflation a problem globally not just in U.S. Second off while it is true there are tons of alums of the Ivy team who played at Hofstra, that doesn't mean that translates into casual sports fans who will go see their lacrosse team play on a hot day the way a Maryland, Cuse, UVA or Notre Dame alum/fan would. I have no problem with other areas hosting, but Hofstra's Shuart Stadium should always be in the quarterfinal rotation. Even when stadium is half full it is incredible environment!wrhuradio wrote: ↑Fri May 27, 2022 2:35 pm5800 would be an acceptable number if the 4 teams attending were Vermont, Robert Morris, Richmond, Denver. 3 Ivy teams + Rutgers there's no excuses. Simply put, LI and the NY-Area sports community does not support or show up "minor league" sports at all. The Islanders are barely going to get by, St John's College basketball does just OK.
LI/Hofstra is hosting this year's NY State Lacrosse Championship games June 11th, a quadrupleheader. Figure at least 3 of the 8 teams will be from Long Island, and like 2 more from Westchester. They would be lucky to have a total of 3,000 for the entire day. 4400 in florida for just 4 teams!? Wow.
Other areas are now deserving to get multiple opportunities to host QF, it's overdue. 5K is a small threshold to pass of what Hofstra has done in the last several times theyve hosted. Problem is the NCAA pays for the travel, and Hofstra hosting 95% of the time is just a bus ride for the 4 teams that make it. Move it elsewhere and you're getting into flights, have you seen what the projected future costs of gas/airline fuel are the next couple year's under Bidenflation?
I mean my son just completed his first season in u9 so this is critical and all this work is going to a good place because I need to plan for his college years now!
First, there is always an exception. Second, while I grew up on LI, I now understand the frustration others have with traffic there. Nonetheless, I and many other quarter-final-starved Blue Jay fans would be happy to join Maryland, Cuse, UVA or Notre Dame on the Belt Parkway.hofstrapride1 wrote: ↑Sat May 28, 2022 7:43 amFirst off inflation a problem globally not just in U.S. Second off while it is true there are tons of alums of the Ivy team who played at Hofstra, that doesn't mean that translates into casual sports fans who will go see their lacrosse team play on a hot day the way a Maryland, Cuse, UVA or Notre Dame alum/fan would.
