Yup, and don't like writing it either... but they have a lot to prove, and hopefully can start right out of the gate. Looking forward to getting the season kicked off this weekend!

RumorMill wrote: Tue Feb 11, 2020 4:30 pmIf I'm pressed to make a prediction, I would actually pick Merrimack to win the game. Just because they're moving up from DII, that doesn't mean it's a "should-win" game. And as I mentioned before, the result vs a strong HC team leads me to believe Dartmouth is going to have their hands full.
Merrrimack is the two time defending NCAA Div 2 Champions. You don't get through that gauntlet without being a SOLID program (i.e solid coaching).
Dartmouth = UNDERDOG !
RumorMill wrote: Tue Feb 11, 2020 4:30 pm So really looking for improvement in certain areas at the front end of the season in preparation for the Ivy games. I think the staff has put together a good schedule to prepare the team for their first Ivy game, which is arguably the best chance for their first Ivy win in awhile. Don't get me wrong, I still want a win on Saturday!
Having already given the nod to Merrimack this Saturday, their first game stats were underwhelming. Face-offs only 38%. And goalie play 50%/28% saves, as each one played a half.

With four goalies rostered for Dartmouth (I presume HINCKS gets the start), and two freshman face-off guys, hopefully those two cornerstones will be better than 50% efforts. Add some inspired offense (Coach Conner has to improve on last year's vanilla effort) and maybe an UPSET is possible.

D has one great goalie and one very good goalie. By the end of the season, I think we will be saying it has one excellent FOGO and one very good FOGO. The defense is very good. The question is the offense. We will see Saturday but do not be surprised by a D upset.

Dartmouth - Although still a relatively Young team... they Have more returning veterans compared to last year...
upperclassmen have 2-3 years experience as starters: if they remain healthy, we should see nice improvements
Attack - Sr, Jr, Frosh
Middy - Sr, Sr, Jr
Close - Jr, SO, Sr/F
LSM - Jr, Sr
SS- Sr, Sr, Sr
G - SO

Hincks 56% saves. What we needed today.

Encouraged Dartmouth scored more than 10 goals today. Something only done 3 times last season.

TOs and clearing a familiar weakness. But hopefully a focus in coming week of practice leading up to home opener.

Ice win against a small but talented team..The Attack played well together. I have seen this coach inner O before. A lot of Mid inverts and 1 on 1 dodge and redodge then off ball opportune cuts. It is very effective at controlling the ball and keeping balance. The D was either a beat slow on slides or just a step slow. Disappointed the D let their lefty shooter get to his left so often. Dartmouth D definitely has some length, so if the footwork follows should bode well vs IVY....GK and FO pretty good, but the wings are playing still trying to tie up their man vs going to the spot where the ball will come out...Must improve this..cost us some huge F/O late in game. All in All looks like progress and newcomers who played impressed.. GBG

Game balls to Hincks (56%), Prince 6G 3A, and debut by Rogan 4G 2A.
Hincks had some huge saves down the stretch to hold the game to the 2G lead.
Not sure if that was Prince's career best, though I suspect so...terrific game, only one TO.
Rogan made a very impressive statement, he's the real deal.

Positives were winning the GB battle overall, some very sweet offensive play.

Troubling were the TO's, with Harlan Smart alone with 5 (he should be able to clean that up) and no one seeming to be able to stop Merrimack's stud player, Bertrand. Also the amount of total penalty time, including multiple unnecessary roughness penalties. We were bigger, stronger, but need to be smart... or get a lot better on man down!

Good to get the W.
Crazy time of year to be playing ball, but Merrimack already had a game under their belts, so good to get going.

Be patient with your program like Yale was basketball and lacrosse- building takes time.

Congratulations to the Big Green players and coaches -- great day for Dartmouth MLax yesterday. A 6-0 4th quarter run to erase a 3-goal deficit and beat a good program. Plus, yesterday Merrimack notched its first ever Division I victory against a Big 10 opponent in Michigan -- that makes Dartmouth's opening victory over Merrimack look better by comparison (and shows that somebody was going to have that "trap game" against Merrimack).

Arguably this comeback win over Bryant is one of the biggest wins of the Callahan era, I'd think? (I know they beat Harvard in his first season.) Given the recent struggles in the Ivies, that next Ivy win will be bigger (and I could see it coming this season, for sure) but right now this one is a heck of a win.

2016 - 2019 when Dartmouth lacrosse was in a hole late game (which was often) they never seemed to dig deep and come back. Turnovers, poor shot selection, broken clears, whatever, the comeback never seemed to materialize. YESTERDAY gave a glimpse of what this team is capable of. CONFIDENCE is a great foundation to build upon. The athleticism of this 2020 team exceeds the previous 4 years. Let's hope the Dartmouth lacrosse coaches can continue to mold a TEAM into bringing SMART lacrosse decisions every moment on the field. Callahan's sixth season is hopefully the chance for his biggest critics to (re)join in this team's success.

Where does D get that one Ivy win this season? Despite the improvement the way the League is shaping up don’t see even on an off day Yale, Penn, Cornell or Princeton suffering that loss. Harvard maybe but don’t think with the new coach that will happen- he’ll have them ready each and every game in his inaugural season...Brown maybe but by the end of the season expect that squad to be excelling with what already is a more than solid defense ...a very good goalie...and an offense that generates 60 shots a game so far that will most likely improve over the course of the season on its % on net and into the net....

Hopefully the boys are not thinking about the first Ivy win. I hope they are thinking about beating UMass Lowell and getting to 3-0. They can play better than they did in the first two games and I believe they know it. They need to just keep working and do not look ahead on the schedule.
