Some valid points on How to treat IAC and WCAC in DC area which I omitted from Maryland. Some of the IAC & WCAC are in Maryland as mentioned & some like St Stephen's & Paul VI are in Virginia. so separate. If you are going to count players from Virginia playing for Landon, Georgetown Prep, etc as part of Maryland hotbed, then yes, you need to count Boarding schools in their respective states in the NorthEast.Wheels wrote: ↑Fri Oct 25, 2019 9:02 pmConnecticut's strength is pretty much in Fairfield County, unless we're going to talk about the boarding schools that bring players in from all over the nation. Landon, Bullis and Gtn Prep give Montgomery County a pretty strong group.
With respect to its size, I think Maryland's private schools are probably stronger than any of those other states that you mention, but the public schools in Maryland are perhaps a step behind those other states.
Anne Arundel County never got a lot a lot of credit for being such a great place for lacrosse. So many people just think it's Baltimore. When the IAC and WCAC schools in the DC-area started investing in lacrosse, those leagues now turn out just as much (if not more) high-end D1 players than any high school leagues in the country. Because of the IAC and WCAC becoming so good, Northern Virginia now produces a ton of players, too. PVI has had a solid program for years. Bishop O'Connell is a bit of an outlier in that they never seem to really break through given how big that school is. St. Stephen's and St. Agnes has broken through in the IAC (was previously just known for elite girls lacrosse). I know Gonzaga, Landon, Prep, St. Johns, and DeMatha have a lot of Northern VA players on their rosters. It'd be interesting to see how many D1 players come from the MIAA, IAC, and WCAC each year compared to other conferences in other states.

I believe that Bullis and Landon have a majority of Maryland players, with Georgetown Prep having a strong majority of Maryland players. A fair number of Maryland players go to the D.C. schools Gonzaga and St.Albans, so it somewhat balances out. Not every player at the MIAA schools is from Baltimore or Annapolis.blue angels wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2019 8:46 amSome valid points on How to treat IAC and WCAC in DC area which I omitted from Maryland. In the end, I think enough good players go to D1 from Landon, Bullis, Georgetown Prep, the Montgomery County Public schools, and various nearby schools - who live in Montgomery County to make it reasonable to consider Montgomery County as part of the hotbed of Maryland.

Re: Maryland 2020
Get the feeling that Zappitello is underrated, and he and Shirtzer will be very good college players. Ditto for Redd as a LSM. Goforth is an elite athlete in the midfield. Surprising that Marshall is so under the radar given how much he's done at CH. Really nice class for Tills. Really nice.Cooter wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2019 2:00 pm The fall signing period opens up on November 13.

I have watched a number of Loyola Blakefield games on youtube and been pretty impressed with Jack Koras. He seems fast and dynamic and shoots well on the run, and also seems rather hard-nosed - which reminds a bit of Cannizzaro.
Eric Malever has some nice highlights up on youtube and scored a ton of points down in Georgia, but one does wonder a bit about the overall level of play down in Georgia. Malever has done well when he has come up for the UA underclassmen games.
Both Koras and Malever missed making the U-19 team. Both were invited to the tryouts, Malever missing on the first cut and Koras on the 2nd. Looking at the attackmen who were selected most sound somewhat slower accordings the IL's recruit reports I sort of wonder if this won't play into the Canadian's hands, as it is something their defensemen are more used too.

Re: Maryland 2020
I watched Malever during a couple of UA events. He is quick and put up some highlight type goals. But can tell he has not played with or against top talent. Turns the ball over alot and misses open guys alot. IQ needs some work. With that said, I think his upside is huge if he can learn how to really play the game.
Re: Maryland 2020
With respect to Malever, I was sort of thinking of how recent stars at UMd from weaker lacrosse areas had upgraded their games. Fairman went the common route of PGing a season, while A.DeMaio came in the Spring to the UMd and red-shirted. (N.DeMaio is following the same path as A.DeMaio). Both of these routes involve extra expense though.bam1972 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2019 1:18 pm I watched Malever during a couple of UA events. He is quick and put up some highlight type goals. Seems like Malever will be the elite athlete kind of attackman to continue in the mold of Jared and Bubba. He might not have developed the IQ and skill sets that those guys brought on arrival to College Park, but he has the size, speed, and athleticism part. Koras surprised me with his quicks. You know he'll come to campus with the skills and IQ down pat.bam1972 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2019 1:18 pm I watched Malever during a couple of UA events. The PSU schedule also tells us the Villanova game isn't on the weekend of Feb 8 and Villanova plays Yale on Feb 15.
So the Villanova game might be a midweek game.
