I am a big Trump fan but you would have a hard time proving any of this is illegal. Is it ethical? Ethics only apply to the average Joe or Josephine. If you are going to hold yourself up as some moral compass, you tell your kid to knock it off because his dirt is getting on you. This is why I like Trump. He's a street fighter in a suit. He doesn't try and tell you he's morally superior. He's also a successful executive, which is the number one job qualification.
Beside's, when Dems decide to have their vote he will declassify the FOIA abuse documents and impeachment for a phone call will look like a "pimple on a gnats ass".

this is paraphrasing Joe Bidens words... I looked at them and said I'm leaving in 6 hours your not getting the money if you don't fire him... SON OF A complain THEY FIRED HIM. I understand how some of those fanatical right wing folks would see that as extortion. I understand even more how the misfits here on the FLP side of the discussion are not smart enough to see the itsy bitsy problem with what Joe just said. I don't have a PhD but it seems to me if you demand a foreign government acquiescence to your demands or you will withhold payment to them... how else is that action to be defined? Son of a complain I want to understand this better... Sure sounds like extortion to me. I was even curious enough to look up the definition of extortion just for clarification...
Extortion... The practice of obtaining something especially money, through force or threats. So I break it down so I can understand it better. The VP Biden demands that the Ukranians fire the prosecutor investigating the company his son just happens to represent. The wording goes if you don't do it your not getting the billion dollars. What the hell was I thinking... no appearance of impropriety here... Hell maybe, technically this is more reverse extortion... I get it now...

Maguire acted on the advice of the DNI General Counsel who referred the matter to the DoJ & then followed their guidance.
It's a good thing that they did, because the ICWPA (& it's time constraints) did not apply to this WB's complaint, on several grounds.
It's not breaking the law just because you don't understand the law.
Our WB law is stronger than ever. This has been a tutorial for any potential whistleblower.

As a Businessman, Trump Was the Biggest Loser of All
Last October, the New York Times published a monumental exposé of how Donald Trump and other members of the Trump family engaged in sham financial schemes during the nineteen-nineties, including what the newspaper described as “instances of outright fraud,” to avoid paying hundreds of millions of dollars in taxes on the real-estate fortune that Fred Trump passed on to his children. Last month, the three reporters who wrote the story—David Barstow, Susanne Craig, and Russ Buettner—were awarded the Pulitzer Prize in explanatory reporting.
It’s a good thing Trump vodka, Trump U, Trump Casinos, Trump Mortgage, Trump Magazine are all massive successes.
Re: Hunter Biden Corruption - Important and Meaningful issue
Never said it was. I said that was conflict of interest that even a child could understand. You make it sound like "law enforcement agency" is Barney Fife in Mayberry. The law enforcement agency was Barr, Trump's direct report.
The DNI General Counsel is the brother in law of Christopher Wray. Another conflict.
Oh, totally.
It's a COMPLETE success when the whistleblower's complaint it handed to the person that the complaint is about within a few days of the complaint being filed.
I'm sure the WB thought that was super neat. And was further thrilled to hear that the President threatened anyone who the WB might have spoken with.
Oh yeah, we're all set here.
Re: Hunter Biden Corruption - Important and Meaningful issue
Except that prosecutor was NOT investigating Burisma when he got fired. He had let that investigation lie dormant for OVER a YEAR by that point. That same prosecutor had also fired all the subordinate prosecutors who were actually doing work that might reduce corruption. To say he was investigating Hunter Biden would be a lie pure and simple.cradleandshoot wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2019 5:51 pm this is paraphrasing Joe Bidens words... So any “extortion” essentially was saying to Ukraine fire this guy who is doing nothing and replace him with someone who will help get the corruption problem under control or else lose out support. That is a benefit both for Ukraine and the West, who can then have better trust when dealing with most anything in the country, and essentially nothing of a personal nature.
The same cannot be said for what Trump was doing.

Seems to me that he was not acting in a corrupt or dishonest manner and that he thought he was between a rock and a hard place, or, as he called it, "unprecedented".
The question I'd have asked him was at what point would he have chosen to follow the spirit of the law governing this matter, given the balance of equities at stake.
I just didn't get the sense that he intended to keep this under wraps permanently, thought he could work through the thicket of thorns methodically...and indeed that's what ultimately happened.
Conversely, I quite agree with a fans' take on the ethics involved.

That is one way to spin it. The problem IMO revolves around Joes own words. When you say if you don't fire this guy you don't get the billion dollars... it certainly looks like that could be taken the wrong way. You do see the difference between a President, VP, SoS, etc:
1) playing hardball with a foreign country to clean up their corruption before giving them a boatload of dough that could be lost...
and
2) Demanding that a foreign leader dig up dirt on an upcoming political opponent and provide a false narrative about the foreign interference of the past election...before releasing a boat load of cash...
Right? You do see the difference??
Biden wasn't asking for relief for his son, nor interference in an election, nor anything else of value to himself rather than the US. That's what all the evidence says.
Trump was definitely asking for help in his election challenge.
That's why the GOP Senators are squirming so hard to avoid the reporters...they know this is really bad...and now they're worried about the next shoes to drop, ala what we just learned about the transcript with Lavrov and that there are more damaging transcripts being hidden.
