movies worth mentioning
Re: movies worth mentioning
I was watching "To be or Not to be" with Carole Lombard and Jack Benny, last night. Apparently, Carole Lombard's last movie. I am not sure it was the greatest movie but it was alright. "Hogan's Heroes" seems almost like a clone of this movie and the movie "Stalag 17". In this movie, you get the actors dressing up and impersonating Nazi's, even Hitler, and in Stalag 17, you get the prison camp.

Sounds like a fine plan, Anderson.Andersen wrote: ↑Tue Aug 06, 2019 11:50 am Unfortunately, you are correct. I'm very grateful there are several theaters within an hour that show non-standard movies; foreign, independent and documentaries.
I'm a strong believer in seeing movies in the theater if possible, so much better for several reasons.
If I win the lottery, my wife and I dream of opening a movie theater in some nice retirement spot.
Plan B is to join or start a Film Group with monthly screenings.
Mission Control is on Netflix. I can watch stuff about those engineers and managers at NASA in the Apollo days over and over and over. Can't watch this movie without smiling. Outstanding stuff. Wish we'd apply the same effort to get to Mars. It'd be worth every penny spent.

The Bedford Incident [1965]
Cold War drama - highly intense ending.

Theme is strikingly similar to "Fail Safe". I rated it 3½ to possibly 4 star.

Good, not great. And substantially better if you're a Bruce fan.

Some documentaries tell a story. Some investigate an issue. And some... Just are. Honeyland just is.

Did not realize until last night that the Al Pacino Scarface was a "remake"... The original was excellent!

Re: movies worth mentioning
Though the trailer looked incredible, I was wrong about Arctic; it was terrible. Obviously Mads was great, and I've loved watching his acting since Open Hearts (15 years ago?). The arctic was also great, but the ending was terrible, and, thus, the middle become terrible anew. And though it was all beatiful to look at, by the time it was over, I was irritated that this movie was made already about two dozen times, most recently with Robert Redford in All is Lost. Same incredibly stupid ending. You just assume that directors are going in some kind of direction, and then you realize they've got literally nothing to offer but a face and a cinematographer.
Re: movies worth mentioning
I beg to differ. Loved it. Loved the ending. Watched it twice already and plan to watch it again. To each their own, I guess.

If you liked the arctic adventure element, check out The Snow Walker. If you liked it for the face of Mads Mikkelsen, check out The Age of Uprising: The Legend fo Michael Kohlhaas. It's a fantastic story and beautifully shot.

The Snow Walker doesn't look like it's my taste but Kohlhaas looks interesting (though I don't love subtitles). Johnny, thank you.

Hadn't seen this gem in a while but was inspired to do so because of all the Halloween ads being shown on tv:
