This started when they began to call us RINO's.
RINO had nothing to do with Trump.
What about calling out the party of conservatism for spening other peoples money like a drunk sailor on shore-leave is "problematic"?
Trump is a but-clown, but the idea that we had a 2-party system in 2014 is a total joke. Clinton/Bush/Kennedy/Global Corporatists - they ARE all the same.
Interesting take on this. Perhaps what
some meant when using the term RINO to disparage fellow R's was that they were too willing to spend OPM, but it was also being cast at those who thought right to life nut jobs went too far, or who thought gay marriage was just fine for those who actually wanted to commit to one another, or who thought the Party should work much harder on appealing to various minority groups, or that some sensible gun control actually made sense. Any of those 'moderate' sort of views could earn you the label.
My problem wasn't that folks within the Party disagreed on issues, it was that some in the Party began to reject anyone not 'pure' enough in their dogmas.
Please note that those being rejected today aren't the ones who wish to burn through as much OPM as they can as fast as they can, as long as they take their slice. Indeed, those folks occupy the White House and demand fealty from the Party.
In return they give them their judges. Doesn't make a difference whether the judges are absolute idiots, totally unqualified or simply big jerks, all that matters is they will adjudicate 'conservatively'...radically so.
And Build the Wall. Total Muslim Ban....
and fiscal conservatives, George will, guys like me, we're the RINO's...
Boy am I glad I don't live in your neighborhood. I see very few of the hateful types you are always going on about, and when I do see them, they are being ignored and shunned, except by the media that loves to give them the spotlight so that they can say "
hey, look at the idiots that are the GOP". The same thing they did with Trump, only there is backfired. And we differ on the why. You see racists and hatred. I saw people who were fed up with a system that they thought worked for the 0.1%. Trump nailed it with "rigged".
Perhaps you misunderstand me, which means I haven't communicated effectively.
I, too, don't run into many "hateful types", and I certainly don't just see "racists and hatred". Frankly, I avoid the worst of those folks in my daily or social life. When I find myself stuck at a dinner table with someone spewing outright bigotry, it gets very uncomfortable for everyone at the table because I do confront it, albeit with as much social grace and humor as I can muster. But I'd not invite them back to any social table of mine.
I listed a whole lot of views that I would consider 'moderate' that began to generate the accusation "RINO". If one held any or all of these views, you were booed out of the Party. But, no worries, not out of my "neighborhood".
If we look at the issues I described which of these don't have many advocates within the Party who hold these strong views on the right who are being "ignored and shunned" by the Party? I'm not talking about those who carry swastikas (though the very top of the Party is having serious difficulty rejecting them), I'm talking about gay marriage, choice, sensible gun control, comprehensive immigration reform...versus appeals to Total Muslim Ban and Build the Wall and I'll give you judges.
You tell me which is ascendant today in the Party?
Sure, some people got spun up enough to vote because of "the system is rigged" by the 1%. Bernie sure worked that one on the left. Trump claimed he was doing so on the right and, yup, that resonated with some. But do you really think he ever actually meant a word of that BS he spewed? Or was it the same as claiming there were a million illegals voting in 2016?
Time to reject him and everything he represents. Want someone to actually deliver for the 99%, look elsewhere.
