Just a small note on immigrant work ethic and abilities.

Over the past few weeks, between gully washing rain storms, I have had 64 trees cut down on my property in Baltimore County. 50 old Ash trees, badly infected with emerald borer disease (wiping out Ash trees all over the country). 6 Bradford Pears trees that had been cracking and dropping big branches over the past few years, 5 unsightly Spruce trees, 3 trees damaged badly in bringing down the Ash trees. The Ash trees were mostly all in a area of the property making up about 1.5 acres of dense 50-100 year old forest where the underbrush had been cleared when I built the house. The trees ran from 80 to 120 feet - mostly White Ash. Part of the job was to do as little damage as possible to other trees and no damage to 2 structures not including the house located 100 ft at closest to the forest area. Minimizing heavy equipment impact on the property lawn area.

Over the weeks a professional crew of 8 individuals did the job. A single experienced manager (white), about 40 years old. 4 young, 20-30 year old white crew members; 1 young, 20-30 year old African American crew member and 2 30 year old Hispanics. Equipment: 1 Bobcat; 1 Spyder with cherry picker, 2 trucks with industrial strength wood chippers, 1 heavy duty stump grinder, multiple trucks for hauling logs as needed. The 5 20-25 year old guys ran the chippers, manned ropes to help fell the trees, guiding them under direction to land where they were intended to land and performed cleanup duties including stump grinding. The 2 Hispanics were magicians with chain saws, tree climbing and felling strategy. You could tell they had real logging experience. They were the heart of the crew.

I got to know most of the crew over the weeks the job took. Don't know if the Hispanics were legal or illegal immigrants, they could understand but struggled a little with spoken English, both personable, but likely recent (past 5 years) immigrants. What I observed however was that apart from the manager, only the 2 Hispanics, the African American and one of the white 20-30 year old's had any work ethic or interest in doing a good job. There was a huge difference in attitude between the 5 with work ethic and the 3 without.

You have obviously not been to WV - beautiful country and nice people;
This is going after the Distributor (rightly) but you are not hitting the Manufacturer - guess which of two countries that would be?
Been there a thousand times, no place more scenic. No place more blessed with natural resources. Love the place. People are also nice and friendly - it's their job! They are too stupid to live however. Any state where 65% of the population is made up of trumpnista boot licks deserves no mercy. F***ing irradiate them with neutrons. Make the MFs glow in the dark! In 5 years we can resettle the state with sane people who will protect their environment.

72,
Are you speaking about Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria or WV? Do they give degrees for Arrogance at Johns Hopkins? It has to be good to live in a bubble wrap.

I'm surprised he didn't include John Denver for writing that horrible song about all those "deplorable" folks... :D

Pretty sure he was being quite tongue in cheek, sure seemed to be the case, on its face.
Seems to me that youth's laughter was the appropriate response.

Which isn't to say that '72 doesn't find the overwhelming, blind fealty to Trumpism anything to applaud.
Me too.

But '72 can clarify his statement for himself.
Just seemed so over the top as to be obviously sarcastic.

I think we should start blaming this unnamed President now for this lack of military spending, and avoid the Xmas rush.

This could be huge. The 9th Circuit is no longer running the country.
https://beta.washingtonpost.com/politic ... story.html

Supreme Court says Trump administration can begin denying asylum to migrants while legal fight continues

The Trump administration can begin denying asylum requests from migrants at the southern border who have traveled through Mexico or another country without seeking protection there, after the Supreme Court on Wednesday lifted a lower court’s block on the new restriction.

The justices put on hold an injunction from lower courts in California that halted the new rule pending additional legal action; there, a district judge had said it probably ran afoul of a federal statute and administrative law requirements.

President Trump’s policy is a dramatic change in the way the federal government treats those seeking safe haven in the United States , and is one of the administration’s most significant efforts to deter migrants at the southern border. It is one of multiple tools immigration officials have deployed to prevent entry by families and others fleeing violence and poverty in Central America .

Earlier this summer, the court on a 5-to-4 vote agreed to another emergency request from the administration, allowing it to proceed with plans to use $2.5 billion in Pentagon funds to build part of the president’s wall project along the southern border.

The issue is likely to come back to the Supreme Court when the ongoing legal challenges have been completed in lower courts.
But that could take months... The change most affects Hondurans, Salvadorans and Guatemalans leaving behind gang violence and high levels of crime in their countries. It could also turn away migrants fleeing oppressive regimes in Nicaragua, Venezuela and elsewhere.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services acting director Kenneth Cuccinelli tweeted... @USCIS will commence implementing the asylum rule ASAP.”

A record number of Central American families have sought asylum in the United States during the past year, and most have been released to await court hearings, thwarting Trump’s efforts to curb a new wave of migrants. The Justice Department says more than 436,000 pending cases include an asylum application.

The Trump administration announced the change — requiring migrants to seek protection in the first country they travel through — in July. Four immigrant-rights groups quickly challenged it. A federal district judge in California ruled that the law was probably invalid because it is inconsistent with federal law. He also said it violated the Administrative Procedure Act, and issued a nationwide injunction.
Appeals court issues split decision on asylum rules

Congress gives the departments of Justice and Homeland Security authority to impose additional restrictions on asylum seekers beyond those in federal law, Francisco argued. He said the new requirement “alleviates a crushing burden on the U.S. asylum system by prioritizing asylum seekers who most need asylum in the United States.”
“In turn, the rule deters aliens without a genuine need for asylum from making the arduous and potentially dangerous journey from Central America to the United States,” he added.

Why do these specific cartels qualify as a Foreign Terrorist Organizations? They:

- are a foreign organization.
- meet the definition of ‘terrorism’ and engage in terrorist activity as defined by (22 U.S.C. § 2656f(d)(2)) and (8 U.S.C. § 1182(a)(3)(B)) of the U.S. code.
I think we can all agree that the cartels are brutal organizations which use violence as a major part of their business model. And deserve the toughest of responses.

But should we really confuse crime organizations whose motivations are $ with ideologically motivated violence?
Are they really the same thing?

Why conflate the two? Can't we walk and chew gum?

The Trump administration is considering an executive order to crack down on shipments of fentanyl and counterfeit goods, according to people familiar with the matter, a move aimed in part at pressuring China to help the U.S. combat its opioid epidemic...

...Trump trade adviser Peter Navarro, who is leading the effort on the executive order, often refers to the sale of fentanyl as one of what he calls China’s “seven deadly sins.” People briefed on the order said it’s likely China would retaliate against the U.S. move.

I'm 100% in favor with battling this scourge. So, I'm loathe to be overly critical of any legit efforts to actually accomplish improvement.

But really?

You guys have been claiming the fentanyl is coming over the southern border. That's not the primary way. It comes by air.
It's going to continue to come, by whatever means, as long as there are enormous profits to be made.

Why is Trump not interested in what FedEx and UPS do, just USPS? I hate to say it, but this appears to be just a posturing move, a way to tell Fox viewers that he's "doing something" and at the same time accuse the Chinese of being bad folks, the 'enemy'.

Our problem with opioids is of our making, and there's some reckoning with that finally happening. But we're not going to break the back of illegal drug trafficking until we decriminalize drug usage and take the profit out of the criminal networks. And we need to treat addiction as a public health crisis.

Our problem with opioids is of our making, and there's some reckoning with that finally happening. But we're not going to break the back of illegal drug trafficking until we decriminalize drug usage and take the profit out of the criminal networks. And we need to treat addiction as a public health crisis.
You are not doing a very good job of thinking a move or two ahead, you seem too worried to find blame with anything Trump or fit in a reference to fox news. If we lock down or significantly slow down China import of fentanyl , then I ask you "how does it then try and make its way here".....BINGO? the new primary way is the southern border, and who is receiving the good form China...BINGO, the cartels, and how do they get it here if we are also more scrutinized on our southern border.

We can walk and chew gum at the same time....I believe I have heard that from someone on the forum once before. :D Enjoy your Sunday MD!
A fraudulent intent, however carefully concealed at the outset, will generally, in the end, betray itself.
