IMHO, having watched parts of both an MLL and PLL games on TV in relative short time period it confirmed my earlier post. The MLL game seem more structured and team oriented and the PLL was more along the lines of the NFL or NBA All Star game. It might just be the MLL has been around longer. The chaotic feel of PLL not working for me.

It’s the short field and running clock. It’s rushed. There is a sameness to the MLL, even with the long clock. PLL would be better off with a normal 60 second shot clock. I don’t want to see the college clock shortened for this reason. I did not see a single college game last year and think, the game will be better at 60 seconds. People have argued the reset to 60. The game was fine. Don’t “fix” it.

I also 'wonder' if it would/could be in the MLL/PLL's best interest to run parallel with the College lax Game. like every other major sport. College lax on Saturday and Pro-Lax on Sunday. This puts college games and pro games in the same stadium on the same weekend for many venues. The only rub... the NLL starts around the first week of May, for those cross-over players.

Not quite sure why pro lacrosse chose Summer, other than no other major sport is going on other than baseball.
If they move up the calendar to run parallel with the college game, that then runs into the NLL season. With an increasing number of players participating in both leagues, you'd run the risk of losing players (in some cases, top flight players). The MLL moved its start of the season back to allow more NLL players to play and not have to miss a couple of weeks of the MLL season (Lyle Thompson used to join the MLL season in progress, for example). So it seems that the NLL does have some pull here.

The lack of grounding the teams in a city or having more clearly identifiable college-influenced/identity teams (like the Whipsnakes) hurts rooting interests. Sometimes, it's not who you're rooting for but also who you're rooting against. I can watch any Hopkins college game and immediately root against them no matter who they're playing. I can't do that for the PLL (although I tend to root against Atlas because Rabill's on it...it's the closest proxy I have). I never really got into the MLL because the games were rarely on TV, but I would occasionally check in on the Bayhawks because of home state affiliation. So the PLL has to do a better job of creating rivalries so you know who you want to root for and root against. With the touring model, they need to make those teams more clearly identifiable with college teams (an all-Ivy team, a more purely Duke-UVA team, a Cuse-Albany team, etc.). They've kind of gone half-measures there.

As for the PLL game itself, I find the product superior to the MLL. It's more than just the TV production (although the PLL is clearly superior there). The PLL game highlights athleticism more, more fast break/transition, and reminds me of the old days with Cuse flying up and down the field. Fastest game of two feet revisited.

This past week's attendance in Hamilton was about 3,000 for the double header on Saturday and 1,500 on Sunday.
Take that and do with it what you will.

Not sure the US field game is big up there. On the other hand, it is the National sport of Canada.

NBCSN has some of their very best people working on the PLL games attendance problem as we e-speak. ;)

Under the spell, I "tried" that chumush thing out in Vail after a zodiak masters game. Gimicky, I thought. However, after talking about the benefits of chumush, and thinking back that we kind of automatically set up in triangle on offense, setting both on ball and off ball picks, depending on stick strength (for me, it's whatever strengths MDLax has ) But, put guys on a field that have been playing, and most likely coaching, lacrosse for decades, the spacing and movement comes naturally. It became a great teaching tool, on so many levels.

Point is, where is the MLL youtube weekly highlite production? The MLL old yawn fest hasn't added/updated a video in over TWO weeks. For the PLL, if it's longer than 20 HOURS, someone will be shown the door or shot at by Rabil. Same on the field product, don't kid yourself. However, with that said, the glorified "beer" league as many of you old timers call it, so what? Those games were great to play in. To watch.

Same as today. You see the Fields btb perfect feed, who also HAD to take a btb shot.....bc defenders were in goof stick position up front.

MLL, I wouldn't even call them lazy. Most high schools teach website stuff, starting with the basics, whether quality or not. Such as wiki page for league, all teams, added to cities championships (noticed a guy selling hats that had 28 championships on it. Shouldn't it be 29, I asked. What, why, what, the waresman said, stuttering because he understood what I meant, and that it was important, but he and I and maybe a few 169 more, would even know what was being discussed.

Two different leagues. From a fan engagement perspective, the PLL is light years ahead.

But at what starting point? MLL marketing, lets be clear, the on field product was/is fun, but marketing is like 1950's television....... There's a reason you can't buy blueray DvDs of that era beyond I love lucy or the lousy honeymooners. Nothing else. And, certainly not big cellars. ;)

I have no problem with the MLL. I watched plenty of games and taped many on DVD for my son to watch growing up. One of the all time great games was a 23-22 OT game that was phenomenal. I may have lent it to a buddy and never got it back.

It'd be interesting to see the MLL champs play the PLL champs under MLL rules.

I dont believe somebody already brought this up, and i know it would be hard with so many of the players having jobs not tied directly to the industry itself, whether it be in finance or real estate but does anybody else think that games in primetime during the week would do way better for viewing? I know the goal is butts in seats at the stadium but gotta believe a 7:15 start on a thursday night during the summer would draw better viewership than a sunday at 1 pm

PLL’s first season is already a success. Kudos to Paul and Michael Rabil, who put a lot of work into the league and apparently delivered.
