Makes my point for me.

What happens if Dems fall in line with Trump (whether he's President or not), and the US digs its heels in, and China does the same? Now what?

We're not prepared. Get prepared. Work to get other markets for American producers, and I'm on board.

Also, get out military ready for a Cold War.

As for waiting for the election, China has to do it. They have no choice but to see if they can get a "better" dealmaker. Better from China's perspective, obviously.

Not that it is directly related to the point you are talking about, but there are rumblings that the financial state of many major countries are are in some state of question/confusion. So much so that bonds are yielding negatively.

I am merely throwing a grenade over the wall as a taking point, but one could make a case that seeing the US challenge the giant in China, is causing others go into their shell so they can sit back and watch; essentially not to pick a side but also stick it to China?
A fraudulent intent, however carefully concealed at the outset, will generally, in the end, betray itself.

Hong Kong, when part of the British Empire, was a fantastic place.
It was magical (from the perspective of this Senior Shore Patrol Officer).
Two upcoming US Navy port visits cancelled.
It's heartbreaking to see what the ChiComm's have done to it.
It's a cautionary tale for any belt & road partners.
This can only help the US, from trade & strategic perspectives.
Trump's playing it right. An Obama style lofty HR lecture would not be helpful right now.

I can only imagine what the world looks like from the deck of a Navy ship. Quite a life, I'd think. Tip of the hat, sir.

I'd replace the phrase "can only", with the word "might".

We have no clue what's going on with Chinese leadership. They could easily feel backed into a corner...and that has full unpredictable outcomes.

Can't remember Trump ever discussing human rights. So I don't think he's "playing".

Did the Trump/amusement park deal in Indonesia including Chinese government money finally close? How does that figure in? What about his Korean deal? How many governments can one man milk? Along with “Human Rights” we’ve never heard “Conflict of Interest.”

.. Why blame China when you can blame Trump.

Hong Kong is a former British colony. The UK agreed with China on Hong Kong's transition. The UK is a UN Security Council member.
Why is this an issue crying out for US leadership ? Where's the UK & our ASEAN allies ? ....afraid to speak out ?

Empty rhetoric, with no follow up coercion, is counter productive.
Trump is fulfilling his campaign promise to not meddle in the affairs of other nations.
Money or not. This is no different than Ukraine.

Trump won’t support the Moscow demonstrations, either. They can come here, of course, attack the election, buy the Senate. Meh.

Don't understand your response. You were praising Trump for not making HR comments about Hong Gong....and then he did just that via tweet, prompting an annoyed response from the Chinese.

You're supposed to be upset that he did that.
