That will be fun to talk about. Please give us some updates. In the Navy game it went to OT but you played out the whole OT. Crazy to listen to.tech37 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2019 6:22 pmThanks Handover. That was the way the tournament was set up back then. Only Big School D1 and Little School DII. If anyone has info, how did Cortland end up getting a home game vs Virginia?

Re: Fall Ball Scrimmages
There were no divisions at the time. It was a "National Championship" for the NCAA, i.e., all teams played in a single division and the top X number were chosen for the tournament. The first "small school" NCAA playoff was 1974 (won by Towson) and the first actual D-3 playoff (under the structure we have now) was in 1980 (won by Hobart).Handoverhamd wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2019 5:52 pmCortland got the home game because they upset the higher seed in the previous game. Hobart won one and Cortland won the other.

Re: Cortland '72 (and other years, too)
Here is a team that could have made the tournament.
Tigers decided to declare for DII.
But could just as well have made the DI tournament. Tigers beat two tournament teams and almost beat a third.
As it was, Tigers went 13-1 and ended up beating Hobart for the DII title.
