57 shots for Navy, 28 for the Red Dragons.
Hope they turned out to be better navigators than shooters.
If I remember correctly DMac, goalie Peter Roy from LI (most of the team was from LI) had a huge game vs Navy. Maybe some Red Dragon, circa '72, can confirm.
Correction...Peter Roy graduated in '71... Peter Graham had 20 saves vs Navy at Annapolis in Qtrs.

If anyone has info, how did Cortland end up getting a home game vs Virginia?
Cortland got the home game because they upset the higher seed in the previous game. That was the way the tournament was set up back then. Only Big School D1 and Little School DII. Cortland Chose the D1 route when you had a choice I believe.
Thanks Handover. My brother (7 years my senior) played on the 71 and 72 teams...I'll see him next weekend and will have many questions.
That will be fun to talk about. Please give us some updates. In the Navy game it went to OT but you played out the whole OT. Crazy to listen to.

There were no divisions at the time. It was a "National Championship" for the NCAA, i.e., all teams played in a single division and the top X number were chosen for the tournament. The first "small school" NCAA playoff was 1974 (won by Towson) and the first actual D-3 playoff (under the structure we have now) was in 1980 (won by Hobart).

USILA ran the College Division Tournament in 1972 and 1973.
Hobart won one and Cortland won the other.

Here is a team that could have made the tournament.
Tigers decided to declare for DII.
But could just as well have made the DI tournament. Tigers beat two tournament teams and almost beat a third.
As it was, Tigers went 13-1 and ended up beating Hobart for the DII title.

Just guessing...Darcangelo (M) and Greibe (A) starring offensively (sp?)
