While we've never met, you at least know of one person who doesn't much care for the PLL game. Don't like the shortened field or the 52 second clock. The game is too rushed, I like the college game just the way it is.Typical Lax Dad wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2019 7:57 amI like the ball drop! I suggested it here a few months ago! PLL can’t decide what sport they are playing. Let’s wear soccer type uniforms, shortening the field and now let’s act like NBA and NHL

I far prefer the college game. I am surprised at the reception the PLL has received. It’s better than I thought. I don’t like the running clock but don’t mind the field size so much. The game does feel rushed and I thought the same of the MLL. I really don’t want to see a 60 second clock in college for that reason. 80 seconds is fine. Even on resets. I would rather a little longer possession than the game being rushed.

I thought the experimental face off rule last night in the PLL were dreadful. The basketball style clear after goals was awful, ref waited until the ride was set up then blew the whistle. Players at the Pro and high end NCAA level can basically clear at will, so you might as well give them the ball at midfield. Say good bye to come backs, and late game heroics. The hockey style to me is just a variation of what we already have. Quick hands, physicality, anticipation, ground ball skills, will all make you dominate this style. I think you would still see dominant face off specialists which is what the anti FOGO crowd wants to eliminate. The game is fine leave it alone.

Agree, the game is fine, leave it alone....but, if a change to the face off is going to be made I'm good with the dropped ball/hockey style. This completely eliminates the bending/twisting/manipultating of the sticks and the picking up of the ball in a gravity defying way. Sticks were never intended to be able to do those things and that is what has caused the "problems" with the face off...problems solved. I had suggested a bit back mlaxers start their face offs in the same position as the wlaxers but they go to the ground with the ball rather than in the air. The dropped ball looks as if it brings the same/close to result as that would. No clamping, no crab dance....all that feels as if it should be illegal to me.xxxxxxx wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2019 10:54 am The hockey style to me is just a variation of what we already have. Only saw the highlights of the PLL All Star game....the highlights were pretty good.
Re: Tweak the College Rules
The dropped ball was horrendous. It is too big a change and is and basically takes all the skills out of the position.
Just go with current PLL rules
Just go with current PLL rules
Re: Tweak the College Rules
I'd like to see FOGOs do more than clamp, pop, transfer the ball and run off the field ... you know, play a little more lacrosse. Put another way, I'm not interested in changing the rules around the actual faceoff, but I'd like to eliminate the immediate "Get Off" from FOGO.

Can they still swap sticks?

I'd say "no" since, IIRC, swapping sticks requires a player to step off the field.

Not according to the NCAA. Back to the FOSON FaceOffStayON, the rules currently allow FOGO's to exchange sticks with teammates, on the field. Easy to do, especially if double poling the wings and the SSSD in the box has your offensive stick (non bendy), easy exchange. SSSD subs off with FOGO's bendy stick. Why more teams don't do this, today, anyway, is weird.

Thanks - I was incorrect. Regardless, I would be fine with a "FOSON" exchanging sticks. I'd wager that teams don't do this today because they aren't anxious for their FOGO to play any more time than is absolutely necessary to FO and GO.runrussellrun wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2019 1:03 pmNot according to the NCAA. Makes sense. FOs should be about GBs, not FOs.DMac wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2019 1:23 pmif a change to the face off is going to be made I'm good with the dropped ball/hockey style. ok. why do you want to see the fogo play a little more lacrosse?smoova wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2019 11:58 amI'd like to see FOGOs do more than clamp, pop, transfer the ball and run off the field ... you know, play a little more lacrosse. Re: Tweak the College Rules
Good question. Something I treasure about lacrosse is that all good players are both good athletes and have sound fundamentals in a broad range of difficult skills. All lacrosse players, with possible the exception of goalies, have historically be called upon to play with the ball in their stick, defend the ball carrier, play off-ball offense, play off-ball defense and, perhaps most importantly, do any of these various things in myriad combinations and sequences for long periods of time. It's a "requirement" that lacrosse has in common with basketball, hockey and soccer and something that gives lacrosse, and these other sports, a unique flow and differentiates them from more set-piece sports like baseball and football. To that end, I do not favor position specialization to the point where coaches use specific players for very, very short periods of time to accomplish a singular task and, as a result, those players often trail their teammates in all of the other skill areas.wgdsr wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2019 2:22 pmok. why do you want to see the fogo play a little more lacrosse?smoova wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2019 11:58 amI'd like to see FOGOs do more than clamp, pop, transfer the ball and run off the field ... you know, play a little more lacrosse. Re: Tweak the College Rules
no one can deny your right to want to see that happen. however, the horse has been out of the barn on that for a very long time. substitution rules are nothing like basketball and soccer. and that has meant, usually trending in one direction, that specialization is more a part of the sport than ever. lsms, ssdms, wings, offensive midfielders. subs on the change of possession and if you didn't get it then, you get it as the ball is cleared. tons of guys don't do their jobs for long periods of time.smoova wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2019 2:43 pmGood question. even close defensemen... play defense. all of their other chores are very similar to the fogo's ancillary chores. get a gb, help clear it, get it to the offense, attack really only if there's an opening.
i also happen to believe fogos are a lot more athletic than a lot of people give them credit for, and do the kind of grunt work that coaches preach "win games".
and i happen to be someone that's been on the wrong side of the fogo battle for the majority of the last 5 years.
legislating that one position for different sub rules would seem weird to me. even if that became law -- my own guess is the only diff you'd see is 2 fogos standing next to each other out there. more 5 v 5. some changes on wing personnel depending on whether you figure you'd win or lose most faces.
Re: Tweak the College Rules
All fair points and I agree completely regarding the current level of athleticism in elite FOGOs. As I mentioned above, I think great players combine athleticism with several lacrosse-specific skills and deploy them over an extended period of game time. I suppose it's just a question of the degree to which each person accepts specialization in the sport. I imagine many college coaches see specialization as a way to have what they crave most: control over an otherwise chaotic and unpredictable game. I think the chaos and flow makes lacrosse great and I wince at the prospect of having players who very rarely stay on the field for more than 15 seconds. Other reasonable, and far more intelligent, minds disagree.wgdsr wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2019 4:49 pmno one can deny your right to want to see that happen. however, the horse has been out of the barn on that for a very long time. substitution rules are nothing like basketball and soccer. and that has meant, usually trending in one direction, that specialization is more a part of the sport than ever. lsms, ssdms, wings, offensive midfielders. subs on the change of possession and if you didn't get it then, you get it as the ball is cleared. tons of guys don't do their jobs for long periods of time.smoova wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2019 2:43 pmGood question.
