HooDat wrote: Wed Jul 17, 2019 4:21 pm My observation is that in the US we tend to be more comfortable with socialist enterprises that are locally administered. I think that is part of the idiot-savant nature of your average US citizen. Joe Sixpack tends to intuitively understand that power like that is more easily controlled when it is localized. In the US we have the best of both worlds, because when locally administered socialist enterprises go astray (think public schools in the 60's) the local citizens can go to the feds for protection (BrownvBoard of Education).

When the Federal Government has that power - who do we go to when it is abused?
The ballot box. Same as we do for the local government.
boy, that's too logical. ;)
I don't think you understand what authoritarian means??...? Once someone at the Fed level has achieved authoritarian control of the government, there won't be elections - certainly not fair ones.

Actually, I understand quite well what 'authoritarian' means. Yes, "unfair" or flat out 'bogus' elections are a typical ploy to ensure continuation of control.

Ruling by fiat, not the rule of law. No real check by legislatures or courts; when they attempt to do so, jail the critics. Lock her up.

Demonization of the Other. Send her home.

When the black community wanted open access to schools - why didn't they just vote the suckers out at the "local" ballot box?.... I will wait..... the answer is they couldn't because they were either outnumbered or there weren't fair elections. SO, they had to go to the Feds.

Not sure of your point. They went "to the Feds" to appeal to the Constitution, and when states ignored the ruling of the Supreme Court and brought police and dogs to suppress protest, they appealed to federal enforcement. Thank goodness there was a Constitution and Supreme Court that responded, a federal government that answered the call. Imagine a federal gov't who sent the dogs too. A demagogue in the mold of Wallace in the Oval Office.
MDlaxfan76 wrote: Wed Jul 17, 2019 4:53 pm But quick question: what do you mean by "modern age" and "successful"?
Are you including fascism?

Are you including right wing dictatorships in South America, Asia, Africa, ME?
so, you call these right wing? Then let me get this straight - if the military takes over it is somehow by definition "right wing" in your mind? The Nazi's (I assume those are the fascists to whom you refer) were socialists. Many (though not all) of the Asian and South American dictatorships were put in place under the name of some form of socialist or communist type of guiding principal.

Modern age is 20th century. I purposely put successful in quotes. But what I meant by that was that someone actually took and held power for multiple decades. Or, in what appears to be the best barometer of success for a "socialist" government - their success in murdering a significant percentage of their own citizens in their rises to power.....
Ok, so yes, you're including fascism because the Nazis included the word. I've never heard them described as anything but 'right wing', but I truly don't care about left or right when it comes to authoritarians. Came to power through populism. Envy and hate and nationalism driving the appeal. The Nazis gained control without majority approval, burnt down the legislature...

Likewise, most any military junta has been "anti-socialist or anti-communist", has self defined as "right-wing". But, hey, it really doesn't matter.

We're not there yet. But unless we reject these tendencies strongly, they really do have appeal to many.

Yeah, I'm the problem here, alright. Where are you coming up with this stuff? Ever been to Europe? Do they have private companies?

And yet they manage just fine to provide health care and advanced education for free. What you are telling me here is: that's impossible, and that doesn't exist.

Have you never left the lower 48, or something? Are you this out of the loop on how the world works?

Tulsi Gabbard doesn't utter FREE anything. Prove me wrong.
Ok

What are Tulsi Gabbard's political positions?

On healthcare:

- Gabbard supports Sen. Bernie Sanders' Medicare for All plan, which would provide universal healthcare to Americans via Medicare.

On climate change:

- In 2015, she introduced the "OFF Fuels for a Better Future Act," which would transition the US away from fossil fuel sources of energy to clean energy sources. The bill calls for 80% of electricity sold to be generated from clean energy resources by 2027 and 100% by 2035.
The bill also calls for ending subsidies to the fossil fuel industry while banning fracking.

On education:

- Gabbard has supported Sen. Bernie Sanders' legislation to eliminate undergraduate tuition at colleges and universities.
She wants to eliminate tuition and fees at four-year public colleges and universities for families that make up to $125,000 a year, and make community college tuition fee-free for everyone.

THE SQUAD, especially that African, must be sent back to from whence they came. Those sentiments were no doubt what the LOYAL AMERICANS that attended the HATER IN CHIEF'S fear and loathing rally in North Carolina, longed to hear. The folks in Greenville were obviously delighted that the electoral POTUS gave them the thumbs up, both directly and with tacit consent, to unleash a SESSIONS/FLYNN like cheer. Does anyone remember that "LOCK HER (CLINTON) UP" chorus?

THE SQUAD has received numerous death threats. I can't help but think that the Greenville Groupies as well VSG's 40%'ers long for the days of Timothy McVeigh, Coast Guard Lt.Christopher Hasson, the Charlottesville Christian Marching Society, Joseph Mengele, Lester "PICKRICK" Maddox, David Duke, Stalin among other good people. Those wonderful folks knew how to deal with "problems" efficiently.

Ilhan Omar compared Al-Qaeda to the U.S. Army. I can see how some view our military adventures unfavorably...more then one example of heinous FUBAR committed by military.

Ilhan Omar believes “some people did something” on 9/11. Stupid comment and yet we have no problem with business as usual with Saudi Arabia. We should have stuck it up their a$$ after 9/11. Sure sell them some planes.

Folks, it doesn’t get any more anti-America than that! In your opinion. UN-American is measured more by what you do then what you say. Treason is UN-American, not standing/taking your hate off is viewed by some as UN American...as is burning the flag. Freedom to speak.

And also very Anti-Semitic I have no clue all the dog whistles that could offend an African American. How do you know what bothers Jews? It is all about the freakin 'Benjamins...when I was a kid all the current Trumpers hated Israel and Jews. Why the big change??

Ever since I went to China in 2006, I pay a little more attention to it than most people.

My daughter was born there, and there will always be part of my heart that loves the country, but there are things I don’t like about China.

From its authoritarian government and its human rights abuses to its staggering poverty in large, rural swaths of the country to the way it has for years stolen both trade and military secrets from the United States.

There are aspects of Chinese government that are complete and total catastrophes, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world.

So, my question is, why doesn’t Elaine Chao, the wife of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump’s transportation secretary, go back and help fix the totally broken place from where she came and then come back and show us how it is done? That place needs her help badly, she can’t leave fast enough.

Somalia and Puerto Rico and I have no idea where the other 2 are from have a GDP that unfortunately equals a zit on the arse of the world economy and that is being generous. The two countries mentioned are a mess. PR is trying to oust their President and if you want some fun grab a weapon and go to Somalia. Not arguing what he said was unpresidential but this is what was elected. These 4 are just as unprofessional. China is a world economy that will soon take over the world as the number 1. For a writer to compare the two is silly and continues to feed the discourse we have.

1. PR is not a country.

2. PR doesn't have a president.

3. One of the Reps was born in Somalia, the rest were born in America...New York, Cincinnati and Detroit.

How are these 4 "unprofessional"? Unprofessional compared to whom - Trump,Nunes, McConnell, Jordan?

Unprofessional compared to Trump. Two of those American women went to Boston U.... Probably hockey fans. And one went to Wayne State which is actually a good school. Sort of the Michigan version of City College. The other American was born in Somalia and went to North Dakota State. Probably a hockey fan also!!

Telling someone to go back to a country with a great economy is stupid. That sentiment is for people from “poor” countries. If someone wants change here, why tell them to go to a country doing “well”...that’s crazy. Find another insult.

I’m not a Democrat or liberal which are the biggest bigots. So that’s funny you call me bigoted. Nope. Why would I read something from a failed news agency that lies constantly? I’m not that stupid. Everything I posted about that Anti-Semite is true. You just hate that I’m right and you’re wrong. Your a slave to liberalism. It’s a mental disorder. You need to seek help. Or just stick to posting on the lonely D2 board.

Also, claiming she isn’t anti Semitic is a huge lie on your part.

Here’s some quotes from her proving her Anti Semitism.
“Israel has hypnotized the world”
“Boycott Israel like we did Nazi Germany”
“It’s all about the Benjamin’s baby”
“Jews have dual loyalty”

The President's tweet listed NO race, NO color, NO Country, NO names & NO amount. So how did 4 Congresswomen of color know that the tweet was about them? The "Squad" condemns the President as Racist but there's no white women in the Squads camp. Does that make the "Squad" racist?

Democrats are the party of slavery, racism and the KKK. They want to replace black votes (many have switched to republican) as many have left the Democrat victim plantation with illegal aliens.

Nope. Why would I read something from a failed news agency that lies constantly? I’m not that stupid.
If you are not willing to look at what the "other side" is saying you can make no claim as to its truth. That just is evidence of narrowmindedness.
Everything I posted about that Anti-Semite is true.
I disagree, and I have provided reasons for which I disagree.

But you clearly are not right, so what is there to hate?
Your a slave to liberalism. It’s a mental disorder. You need to seek help. Or just stick to posting on the lonely D2 board

First, a small grammar correction - you should have used You're for your first word in the sentence with slave. Second, I chose my political leanings and philosophy based on many years of experience and evaluating many issues in depth. So there is nothing disordered about it. You seem to need to resort to name calling to resolve your conflicts rather than providing cogent arguments.
Enjoy!
