The wilting rose that is the CAC, now reduced to 6 full member institutions, will see some shuffling in my opinion.
Predictions
1. Salisbury - Losing 9 players at Midfield (including Pompea, Gwin & Malamphy (FO)) will have an affect. However, they retain their goalie, and strength at D and Attack. Apgar will only get stronger. So long as they fill the void left by Malamphy at the dot, and Warren keeps an even keel in the cage, they should continue their success.
2. CNU- In my opinion, they lose the least out of the conference’s top 3 teams. They will need to replace Barry (A), Cornell (D) & Cogan (D), among some depth players. They retain their top 3 scorers & goalie. No doubt they’re looking forward to York’s departure from the conference for NCAA considerations, but this is as good a year as any to flex their muscle and push for that 2 spot behind Salisbury before that happens.
3. York- They will look to finish their CAC tenure in a big way (entering MAC Commonwealth 20-21). Key losses include Pffiefer, Davis, McGrath (entire starting attack) & Sasso (FO). Their talent pool is deep, and they have some key JUCO transfer(s) coming in which should help. Jack Michael, entering his second year starting in net, will need to keep his upward trajectory after a stellar freshman campaign. York will need a full commitment to the “next man up” mentality.
4. SMC- While losing 2 of their top 5 scorers (Groen -A, and LaPlata- M), their FOGO (Bucci) and their Goalie (Snodderly), SMC retains their entire starting D and most A and M across the board. The young core will certainly benefit from keeping the a large segment of the team intact. They will, however, need a goalie to step up.
5. SVU- Graduating just 4 players off last year’s 45 man roster can only mean top to bottom development for the program. The only player of note departing, starting GK Arave, allowed over 17 gpg overall, and over 20 gpg in CAC play last year. I believe if they can sure up their Defense and reduce shots against, better goalie numbers will follow (regardless of who the replacement is).
6. UMW- Losing 4 of their top 5 point earners (1-3 + 5 including entire starting attack), their FOGO (Ayer), plus their starting net minder (Senicola) will be difficult to rebound from. This might be the year SVU gets out of the cellar, as last year UMW only edged them 17-16 in triple OT.

Re: CAC 2020
I heard that he was trying to get a year back from the NCAA (from Salisbury fans, on this website), but with no inner team knowledge, I can only go with what I see in print (until I see otherwise).RetiredCardinal wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2019 11:40 pmMalamphy is back in 2020DeepPocket wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2019 12:48 pm So long as they fill the void left by Malamphy at the dot,

I know someone on here quoted Berkman, where he supposedly said Malamphy already won the year back. I would just need to see/hear it somewhere other than an Internet forum, since everything else of substance I see says otherwise. So for now, I’ll file that under ”huge if true.”

Well if that’s not inner team knowledge then I don’t know what is. There you have it I guess, he’ll be back. That is very big for the gulls. Thanks for the find and post Card.RetiredCardinal wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2019 7:26 pm DP -

Yeah, Malamphy was given the year of eligibility back - His dad confirmed it at during the last game of the season in Salisbury.
The two local incoming kids (see Delmarva link) appear to be legit - Both named AA and one not listed on the incoming list- If they come in and contribute immediately, watch out-

Glushakow and Nestor will head to Salisbury University next year and become part of a men’s lacrosse program that has won 12 national championships. They are set to play under longtime head coach Jim Berkman.
Recent graduate Luke Nestor was awarded his third consecutive Bayside South Offensive Player of the Year award, and 11 players made the all-conference list, including five on the first team.
But the awards still continue to come for one of the top teams on the Eastern Shore. Nestor, fellow graduate Braden Glushakow were recently named U.S. Lacrosse All-Americans, sweeping the awards.
Nestor led the way in scoring with 64 goals, while tallying 20 assists and 41 ground balls. Glushakow finished the season with 48 goals, 25 assists and 78 ground balls.

Sheesh. He graduated HS in 2014, no?
At this point he’s got to be as close to being eligible for my masters 30+ league as he is to the age of incoming Freshmen.
All kidding aside, God bless. He’s dealing with his health situation, and the game is a lot better with a top talent like him in it.
He gives them a strong case for NC # 13 in my opinion.

Re: CAC 2020
Booyah Deep,
Malamphy won't be the oldest player ever for the Gulls. I believe around 1989 the roster included a 39 year old retired policeman who had played men's rec league ball after HS to keep in shape.
Good for the cop; good for the team and anything that expands the game is good for the sport. And I'll bet there is another D 3 college men's lax team with an even older player.

Really excited by these additions. For those Gulls fans, the name Nestor should sound familiar. Luke's dad (insert Star Wars/Evil Empire pun) is Jim Nestor, a former men's lacrosse player at SU and current women's head lacrosse coach at Salisbury.COGULL wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2019 9:30 pm I could stay away no longer

Yep, named Tony Werner? He was a defenseman. There was an article in The Baltimore Sun.I believe around 1989 the roster included a 39 year old retired policeman who had played men's rec league ball after HS to keep in shape.
Re: CAC 2020
SMCM should be in good shape, but not sure this enough to improve their standing from last year, given how talented York, SU and CNU are.
Although I do like the HS and club programs that Childs in mining for talent. Looking to see who steps up in goal for them. Additionally, I think they could have a good addition at the LSM position. We shall see!

Re: CAC 2020
@smell, SMCM had issues with possessions due to the lack of face off consistency, but they picked up a couple of transfers from MD and FSU and now have options. If that works itself out, the core group of now juniors are solid. They may surprise some folks. Fall ball vs Lynchburg and Lenoir will be a good test. Hopefully somebody can report back after Sunday.
Re: CAC 2020
SMCM edged LR and got whacked by Lynchburg. Lost a lot of face-offs vs. the Hornets and goalie play was not sharp.

Re: CAC 2020
It was only 3-1 LB at the end of first quarter, so the first teams actually played pretty close, and that’s with SMC coming out a bit in their own heads imo. Their new goalie stopped almost everything. He looked great. The final score meant nothing in the scheme of the day.

Re: CAC 2020
Wow. Is this long term? They had better prepare for some cold weather with most of the lacrosse being played upstate. Keuka and Morrisville are top dogs. Not bad but certainly not great. SMC should be on top of those two. I can't see what drives this other than getting away from the failing CAC.
Re: CAC 2020
I'm curious what Cardinal and Shore think the collapse of the CAC means for the Gulls?
I think Salisbury (and probably CNU also) will do fine and prosper as D 3 lacrosse independents. Neither should have problems scheduling opponents as Salisbury has shown for 2020. The only fly in the ointment is if the NCAA decides to preclude independents from the Group C tournament slots.
