I recently read The Back Channel by William Burns.
Based on his narrative & the cables he included in the appendix -- you can see how career diplomats can accurately convey sensitive information in a way that won't cause problems for their govt if disclosed. This is increasingly important now that you have to assume that anything you write may be hacked or leaked.
