How about he was still under contract and it was his job??!!! OR, that he may have been able to stay on staff with the new HC(which apparently he could have, per Amplo). Yet many people actually thought he had a chance as head coach...man, these threads are entertaining...about as impartial as Fox News!
OJF or Rick Sowell- move on. We are all ready to turn the page. Congrats to Coach Wellner. This has nothing to do with Coach Sowell. Wellner earned it, he will succeed and ND will be better for it. We will miss him here at Navy and that maybe harder felt than anyone knows, time will only tell.
Unless OJF is an NAAA employee none of us know what was happening no matter what we might think or believe. Only one man knows and he made the decision.
Best of luck Coach W, I/we look forward to watching you succeed at ND and wherever your career takes you.
This is a huge opportunity for Coach Wellner and the Irish. He is one of the best team D coaches in the NCAA and a consummate professional -- it won't surprise me at all if seizing this opportunity now results in an ND HC opportunity for Coach Wellner down the road. Blue & Gold is a great color combo for him!
Duh, laxxy, that's exactly why he left Navy--ND is a much more high profile and esteemed position...nonetheless, thank you for restating what blackdog posted!

That’s a great spot for Wellner. Byrne left a full cabinet of talent. He can crush it then get a HC somewhere.
...so, right back at "yuh" on the "duh". ;)

Are you aware Coach Amplo was coaching a brand new program?? I don’t see how you can even compare coaching at USNA and a brand new D1 program.

Dartmouth? SBU was established, but RS took that program to NCAA quarters and gave UVA all they wanted. Then, he resurrected the SJU program...
THAT"S how one can compare. ;)

Bailed out at SJU after first two seasons of play @ 6-20/.230 and headed east on the LIE to pick-up where Tiffany left off with SBU @ 18-13/.580?

Thank you for your message above, Suskypride. I certainly am aware...and...while I was not intending to make any comparisons here, but simply responding to the ridiculous "ojf" request above, I fully concur with you and the following noted below by AD Gladchuk from the navylax website about Coach Amplo that captures one of the key points I believe you (along with many others) are also making...
https://navysports.com/news/2019/6/5/jo ... ?path=mlax

"To begin, then lead a sport of a major Division I institution may be the most significant challenge in our profession," said Gladchuk. "To do so with such astonishing short-term success is historic. Marquette lacrosse with so many documented accomplishments is a tribute to a man whose untiring work ethic and determination provided life changing experiences to student-athletes. Joe built a foundation on vision, sound educational principles, competed against and beat the best and left a legacy of success that can now be carried over to his next challenge at Navy. Passion, perseverance and inspirational leadership define Joe Amplo and he will be the perfect fit at the Naval Academy where developing our nation's future leaders is our priority and mission."
IMHO, that statement says it all and is a welcome benchmark for the MLax Mids going forward under Coach Amplo's leadership..

THAT"S how one can compare. ;)
Resurrected SJU....RS left that program in shambles among other bad culture issues. Miller, and Paccione cleaned up his mess. They deserve all the credit, not RS.
Nothing to due with "credit" has to do with a new program/resurrecting and starting at square 1

The Navy minions are circling...Amplo has 0 NCAA tourney wins and a below .500 career record...granted, he had a few nice years at Marquette--and deserves credit where credit is due; however, last 2 years at Marquette?? But, I suppose to the haters, it is a step up? Curious that RS was so disliked and RW(RS's long-time, hand picked assistant) is revered on these pages...er wait, maybe it isn't so curious...

Bailed out at SJU after first two seasons of play @ 6-20/.230 and headed east on the LIE to pick-up where Tiffany left off with SBU @ 18-13/.580?
👍🏻🎯
My bad, did Lars win any NCAA games at SBU? Exactly

I'd like someone to do a study on how many times Navy fans have hijacked other forum discussions and made them purely about their thoughts on the state of Navy Lacrosse, any takers?

I'll set the under/over at 4 (but my money is on the over).

We did not want JHU to feel left out.

College Crosse twitter

Cleveland State head coach Dylan Sheridan will take an assistant coaching spot at Ohio State, multiple sources tell @College_Crosse. Sheridan recently led the Vikings to an 8-7 mark in their 3rd season.
