Lots of talent, skill, competitive fire and courageous grit in this game. One thing that was conspicuous by its absence – no flopping. It was as if the girls wanted to take full advantage of the chance to play in this game and didn’t want to waste a moment. I didn’t see anybody trying to draw a penalty. I think number 20 on Johns Hopkins would have a change in her playing style if she watched this game.
So much talent coming into division 1 next season. The replay of this game is still viewable on ESPN3. Definitely worthwhile. Good camera work and a good announcing duo in Sheehan Stanwick-Burch and Quint Kessenich.

Re: Under Armour All-American North vs South Girls Lacrosse Game
Stakes of the game are also very different from the ones in intercollegiate competition. All participants are very competitive and want to win, but the game is an all-star game and carries no post-season seeding or hosting implications.
I agree, they didn't want to waste a moment, and I also think the fouls/aggressiveness weren't anywhere near what they are at the Division 1 level. No one wants to see anyone get hurt at games like these and I think it shows in their play. They played hard and clean and it was a joy to watch. I just think it is a bit unrealistic to expect the mentality of a fast, loose, free, solitary all-star game of high school seniors to translate completely to the D1 level. Hope I'm wrong

Re: Under Armour All-American North vs South Girls Lacrosse Game
I saw some pretty hard contact/checking during this game. Plenty of occasions where the girls went sprawling due to hard collisions. I think the difference was that the girls wanted to play so they just got up and got back to it. These girls look completely ready for division one. One of the great features of the game is that some of the major teams like Maryland and UNC displayed which players were on their way to their respective teams. I don’t know, from my perspective, there wasn’t much about this game that seemed less than division one. Most of these young women are the top recruits in the nation and it was apparent from their skill, gritty competitiveness and toughness.

Re: Under Armour All-American North vs South Girls Lacrosse Game
Definitely wasn't implying that any of these girls played "softly", were not physical enough, not ready for Division 1 OR that this game was somehow "less than" the skill seen at the Division 1 level.
There will always be hard checks and contact in high-level games, but nothing was malicious.
I still think the mentality is completely different. That does not mean the skill level, pace of play, or any other facet of the game was played at a level "less-than" the one played at Division 1. It also doesn't mean the competitiveness drops either. Teams aren't fighting to advance in a conference tournament, NCAA tournament, or fighting to stay above .500 to qualify for the NCAA tournament. All-Star games carry no weight beyond the game itself. It's a celebration of the player's accomplishments and the game of lacrosse. The intensity, competitiveness, or skill doesn't drop, but I think they play is just a little bit smarter because they want to show up for fall ball healthy and ready to hit the ground running. There's nothing reckless or rash about play because it's just one game.
My point was just that an all-star game can't really be compared to the D1 season. Not because the skill level or ability of the players is different, but the meaning of the game itself is.

Re: Under Armour All-American North vs South Girls Lacrosse Game
I haven't seen either of the games from this year, but in recent years the girls have played a much more competitive and entertaining game than the guys, who spend the whole time showboating and trying to get on Sportscenter Top 10. When they're not executing elaborate cellys, they're playing absolutely zero defense such that the game resembles the NBA all-star game. Totally unwatchable. I've admired that the girls have played a tough, competitive game with actual defense.

Re: Under Armour All-American North vs South Girls Lacrosse Game
I enjoyed the game. Way more competitive than the guys game that followed. I had a rooting interest as I am friends with Delaney Lawler(Moorestown) and her family. She's going to Ohio State to play Field Hockey, but she's a terrific defender in Lacrosse.
There were more people at this game than I have watched at any of the two WPLL games I have watched. What does that say about the interest in "Pro" Women's Lacrosse?

Re: Under Armour All-American North vs South Girls Lacrosse Game
I'm happy they allowed the girls on the U19 roster to participate in the game this time around. Last time players on the U19 roster were forced to opt out of participating in the game and were instead still recognized as "All America" at the UA All America game in 2015. I believe that was a US Lacrosse rule and not a UA All America rule.

I remember that dumbass rule. Olivia "Ya" Ferrucci(UNC '19) was one of those affected by that rule.
Re: Under Armour All-American North vs South Girls Lacrosse Game
Yes there were a lot of them affected, 3 girls from Notre Dame, Appuzzo I think, Ronbeck from Florida , I’m prob forgetting some. They all couldn’t play. Glad they changed it. Sorry those girls missed out on playing that game tho.
Re: Under Armour All-American North vs South Girls Lacrosse Game
I could have mis-heard, but I believe the U19s were not able to participate in the Underclass games. Caitlyn Wurtzberger was on the South Highlight team and I don't think she played.

Re: Under Armour All-American North vs South Girls Lacrosse Game
I think this was in reference to the North/South game for HS seniors that will be entering their freshman year this fall. These players are elected out of all the players in the nation and it is a great honor and achievement. This is different from the regional teams in the Underclass tournament that tryouts are held for. Not sure what the younger U-19 players elected/were required to do as far as playing in the Underclass games.

'21 Under Armour All-America North vs South Girls Lacrosse Game
These young women are going at it. No holds barred, full speed, controlled reckless abandon. I can see how Mallory Hasselbeck got injured in last years game. Lots of talented players. Nine (the most ever) from New Jersey. I'm sure Bill is proud. He was always up on the high schoolers in his state. Hair Trigger Larry had the inside poop on Hasselbeck not playing. Very wise of her. Sometimes lightning does strike twice. First half has been all North. A lot of good defenders playing aggressive out there. You can be a rock star defender as BC's Sydney Scales demonstrated during final four weekend. 2nd half just underway on ESPNU.

Games a hot mess in my opinion

Yes--a lot of raw talent out there. You have to admit, amidst some of the chaos, there are some nice displays of talent here and there. Some nice passing, etc. for a group of girls only together for a couple days. Not much time to develop chemistry. But I definitely see what you're saying. I just hope no one gets hurt out there with practice for Fall Ball on their new teams a month away.

Re: Under Armour All-American North vs South Girls Lacrosse Game
Way too many attempted behind the back shots. Most are easy to snag by the goalie or way high and wide. BTB's are no big deal any more. I'm more impressed with a player who can fake and feint a time or two to get the goalie off balance before scoring.
Re: Under Armour All-American North vs South Girls Lacrosse Game
Were those real refs? I’m not being facetious; I’m genuinely wondering if they were trained by US Lacrosse because jeez they were letting dangerous plays slide, which I felt like added to the chaos of the game. Not my favorite game that’s for sure.OuttaNowhereWregget wrote: ↑Sat Jul 31, 2021 6:46 pmYes--a lot of raw talent out there. I hear you. I guess we don’t know if anyone is injured yet. The refs whistled some players off but you’re right, they let a lot more slide.laxstan8 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 31, 2021 7:42 pmWere those real refs? Re: Under Armour All-American North vs South Girls Lacrosse Game
I was surprised by it as well, especially since the game carries no real meaning and is an exhibition and celebration of these athletes' HS careers and accomplishments. Most of them are probably moving in their freshman dorms in under a month.
The missed call that bothered me the most was actually all the "covers" that weren't called - and I can't tell if I'm bothered more by the missed call or by the players actually covering the ball instead of getting their top hand up on the stick, getting low "both butts low", and running through the ball
