6ft, the article does not say the Mexicans actually agreed to something specific, nor even meaningful, rather it was just a US senior official who "insisted that the Mexicans agreed to move faster..." That's a US official claiming such, not a Mexican official confirming any specific agreement.6ftstick wrote: ↑Sun Jun 09, 2019 6:41 amYou said he lied about the deal created by the threat of tariffs. That paragraph says it made the Mexicans ACT faster. Begrudgingly buried in the fifth paragraph under a headline that said the opposite. So you lied.a fan wrote: ↑Sat Jun 08, 2019 11:16 pmUh oh. Now you're stuck. Now you're agreeing with Trump, and you believe that the problem has been solved.6ftstick wrote: ↑Sat Jun 08, 2019 8:59 pm
From your article.
Officials involved with talks said they began in earnest last Sunday, when Kevin K. McAleenan, the acting secretary of homeland security, met over dinner with Mexico’s foreign minister. One senior government official, who was not authorized to speak publicly about the closed-door negotiations that took place over several days, insisted that the Mexicans agreed to move faster and more aggressively to deter migrants than they ever have before.
Trump's quote, again: is that this deal will greatly reduce, or eliminate, Illegal Immigration coming from Mexico and into the United States.”
Here Trump is claiming that this deal of his has fixed the illegal immigration crisis. That's what greatly reduced or eliminate means. Trump is telling you that illegal crossing might even drop to zero because of this deal..
You're on the spot now, 6ft. You either believe Trump, or you don't. So which is it?
Take your time and think it through, because there's a whole raft of consequences to your answer.
As long as that kind of undercutting of Trumps attempts to solve the problem—by the democrats, the MSM and the never Trump republicans it will be difficult. But I don't see ANYONE else attempting to alleviate the situation. Trumps the first politician to try anything to stem the tied of illegal immigration since the 80's.
I'm not saying this was a "Deep State" attempt to keep Trump from tanking the economy, but sounds like there was quite a bit of desperation to come up with some sort of excuse to give Trump to get him to back off. The political types, including Trump's COS, were apparently trying to convince him to pull back, as they knew they were facing a revolt from the GOP Senate if they did not.
Trump declares victory, Trumpists celebrate, and economic calamity is avoided. Phew.
And the lies continue. And even now expand, get more grandiose by the hour.
oops, he just tweeted that tariffs aren't actually off the table...
"joint declaration of principles"...
Mexicans are claiming they are going to deploy their brand new "National Guard"...which is being explained as a new sort of police force...but these are really just renamed police as they certainly don't have a new group of policemen trained and ready...of course, it's not as if they haven't been struggling with the cartels as best they could, with the forces they have.
Mexican diplomats are struggling to try to provide some cover for Trump's declarations. Won't call him a liar, but they confirm there's no actual separate trade commitment the way he claims...so, they say that without the tariffs, Mexico's purchases of ag products will continue to rise...which they would in under any case absent a trade war.
The question is whether Trump truly doesn't understand this, or he's just playing his base for fools.
