51percentcorn wrote: Mon Sep 30, 2024 6:50 pm I'm not saying it doesn't happen - Albany always came down to Homewood for example. Smaller programs want the exposure. I am just thinking out loud that none of the OOCs are smaller opponents. You don't really want to replace any of the OOCs - 2 extremely local rivalries (Towson/Loyola) 4 pretty historic rivalries dating back to at least the 1980s if not close to 100 years - UVA/Syracuse/UNC/Navy. The two obvious candidates are Georgetown and Denver and neither of those programs would be incredibly inclined to give up a home game just to make Hopkins schedule more home/away balanced. As I said before - Hopkins Denver is a match-up that appears to be the likely candidate to someday go away because of travel but if these same 13 games are on for 2026 - the easiest solution would be for JHU to do a switcheroo with someone - have 7 homes games in 2026 instead of 8 and then go from there.
You are right...meant junior (still doesn't make me feel young). Denver is probably the one that is going to change in 2026. But, we've dropped Towson, Loyola and UVA as opponents over the years. Yes, I know there was consternation with UVA and that wouldn't be the team we should drop to fix the schedule. I see no reason why we can't do it again to "fix" the schedule. As a top tier program, with a 13 game schedule, Hopkins should always have at least 6-7 home games. 5 is absurdly not enough (even if many games are only a bus ride).

McCleary at 45 is our highest rated freshman. I don't remember the last time our highest rated recruit was ranked that low. There should have been a ton of scholarship money freed up with that class that just graduated.

14/23 5 stars are acc freshmen. Start to wonder with all the top kids UVA/Duke/Notre Dame are getting class after class if some of those kids will want to transfer. You can only play so many and when you're that good you're not going to college to sit in the spring.

Like the lack of 5 star recruits I don't know what to make of the schedule. PM/Jameson have earned a level of trust I guess based on what they've done the last few years.

This was the class that committed after the 7-9 season in 2022. Things were pretty bleak then. Would have been even worse if they didn't flip DiCicco and Gregorek. The fact that they still recruited better than four of the other five B1G teams is pretty good. Considering how bad things were immediately after the coaching change, it's a minor miracle they were able to bring in this many top 100 kids at all. What's Ohio State's excuse?

Reminder that your favorite player Grimes was ranked #4, Martin was like #70, and Degnon wasn't ranked at all.

These are good points.

12-13-14 they had 8 home games a year but that included games like siena. The big ten tournament is in michigan next year which means from march 8 on they're going to play as many if not more games in ann arbor as homewood.

Plus most of these guys were unranked prior to this update. Only gregorek was top 100.

It shows PM can for-see the updated rankings - great recruiter! 7 in the top 100 is pretty freaking good, especially considering he "only" recruited 1 at the time.

Plus, did anyone see two more Yale seniors are entering into the transfer portal for the 2026 season? Depending on how the Yale experiment goes this year, it could be helpful to land two more transfers to replace the graduating seniors and 5th years. Though, they are both attack, which we should look to develop sooner rather than later.

It may also be worth remembering that at one time Eye was very highly ranked - high 4 star on way to 5 star - #26 at one point (something like that). An injury and/or off the field incident IIRC occurred after becoming part of the BIg Red. Not saying he is or not saying he isn't - but it appears Hop likes what they see so far.

As far as the schedule - they're exchanging with every school on last year's schedule and Syracuse is somewhat owed a home game because both the 2020 and 2022 Hop Cuse games were at JHU. There's nothing to be done about it now - again if the same 13 teams are on slate for 2026 and for the forseeable future - find the right OOC opponent to flip and play there twice in a row so you are on a 7/6 rotation instead of 8/5

Play towson at towson next year or navy at navy to reset 2026. Also don't know how long the denver series goes.

Xanders reported today more ivy leaguers into the 2026 portal. I can't begin to think of what we'll need for that year. Always need ssdms I guess.

Why can't you begin? Pretty easy - lose Smith Melendez Bauer Staudt and the 2 Yale transfers and the UMBC transfer - along with Callahan/Phillips and Kaufman - aside from Smith and Maybe Melendez losses are not daunting - adding 9 4 stars in 2025.

This is an interesting one. With Hackler and Monfort, the fit made a lot of sense because we graduated a stable of SSDMs and badly needed experience there. So there was clearly room for them both.

But this one doesn't feel as clear cut. I imagine the package deal might complicate things for a lot of teams. Taking on one graduate transfer and inserting him into the starting lineup is one thing, but doing it for two is another. I assume Notre Dame will be a major factor here since they lose two veteran attackmen next year.

The number 1 attackman, number 1 close d, number 2 midfielder, number 1 fogo, number 1 goalie, lsm depth. No big deal.

Smith/Bauer/Callahan group are the last in uniform ties to the Petro era, correct?

While IL's rankings have some importance in the stratosphere of how good a player is...as I've come to watch I've learned that not all rankings are the same and some (if not many) of these kids don't work out. Many of these kids rankings are based a lot on what they did as 8th and 9th graders (sometimes they played against kids a year or 2 younger then themselves) and things change drastically over those years. As many have noted, Petro's down fall was ER and his inability to project growth and development over HS years. Millman - so far - has seemed to do a better job.

Yes let's worry about who we lose next year before fall scrimmages even start. Seems like a productive use of everyone's time.

Callahan was a PM recruit. I genuinely don't understand why/how you can't figure this out. Not even trying to be mean. I don't understand.

Smith, Bauer, Deans, Evans were in Petro's 2020 class and Kaufman, Teachout, and Todaro were 2021 Petro recruits kept by PM. Everyone else was brought in by the new staff.

The team put the schedule on Instagram and there is one small — but perhaps not insignificant — change compared to the one posted online a few days ago. The new one has the game at Towson on 2/11, midweek between the Georgetown home game and the Loyola away game, as opposed to the previous version which has it on 2/4 right after the trip to Denver and before the GTown home opener. That would be a welcome change, but it's unclear if it's a mistake or an intentional update from the one posted already. The website still shows @Towson on 2/4.

Denver will be a different environment. Staudt was a freshman (and did not play) on the Loyola team that beat Denver in Denver in 2021 so there's at least someone in the lockerroom with some familiarity of the preparation to play there.

Looks like Jameson's buckeyes played there too some when he was working in Columbus.
