@ 5:17 there's a Lax game at Norris Field. Mt Washington in white. Who's the team in orange & black ?

Looks like Princeton. I heard many stories about MWLC. Was thrilled when I took my first trip there for drinks.

My dad and numerous of his buddies played for the Wolfpack in their heyday. I remember seeing many of these games as a little kid . After his ‘retirement’ we would sit behind the goal in the stands just a few yards beyond the end line. No net, you needed to keep an eye on the ball for missed shots.

Del Dressel played a season there after he left Harvard.

Yes, not the only one who did so when not allowed to play a year. I can’t recall names off top of my head.

They rarely lost, each season playing top college teams and the handful of other top post college clubs.

I was invited to play but was living in Alexandria at the time, so a long hike. And I knew that my HS rivals Michael Federico and Bobby Clements were joining that year as well….they had just split 1st Team AA honors, so I figured to likely just be shooting drill fodder. The only club ball I ended up playing was a couple of years for the Harvard grad team when my wife was at HBS, fun as I agreed with the caveat that I wanted to play a half at midfield. Bunch of my buddies played for the Wolfpack though…it was the last era pre ‘pro’….

We used to drill with just a stick handle in making saves, no stick head...great for concentration. I don't think I'd advise for warm up before a serious game unless just a little 'pepper' in close. That could be a fun way to get loose and locked in.

I think Jimmy Kappler was the tender who took over starting duties from my dad at Mt Washington. Heck of a tender.

How many generations before this culture is no more among the population of this area (and several others below the Mason Dixon line)? 1964, not so long ago (I was watching Sue Sorabella's t*ts bounce in her bikini from the deck of the pavilion down at the park, when she walked into the ladies' room side down below...omg, unforgettable). I find it pretty crazy that in my lifetime I've lived in a segregated area. Moved from Ft. Devens, Mass to Ft. Benning, Ga, '57-58, two different worlds. Learned a little southern culture at 7 and 8. Was a whole lot different down south.

'Not Del Dressel!' I said, thinking I was doing a lax only joke. 'Yup' he said.

I've met a lot of celebs, but never before had I met such an esteemed figure from MY world. I was gobsmacked. To make matters worse, a ref can't treat one coach like a god and the other one like a human, so I gulped, shook his hand, and asked him to please certify that his team was properly equipped to play by rule.

He knew that I knew who he was, so it's all OK. We both respected our roles.But just tellin' that story makes me feel like the Beatles fan who has a John Lennon autographed guitar on his wall "And I met him once, too!"

Del's being interviewed by young Jake Scott at Gilman where Jake now teaches and coaches. Jake played a year with my son in college, his dad is Peter Scott ex Hop great too.

I met Del for the first time as well a couple of years ago at a Gilman lax alumni meetup. I was 5 years ahead of Del at Gilman so didn't overlap.

He mentions Jim Wilkerson who indeed started on our '76 Championship team as a midfielder...rare for a freshman to make it.

One thing I pick up from the Dressel stories that I utilized and it made me a better lacrosse player was visualization. His HS teammates told me that he would visualize his performance before each games. Would sort of meditate on it. I did the same thing and it actually made me a better player. An old basketball player, John Mengelt, told me the same thing but I was a little too young to adopt it when we talked about it (8th grade).

Thx. I may try to look it up . The two players that left Hopkins to plsy for the Wolfpack were M Bob Comiskey and A John Gorczyk. Sp. Comiskey was Polish and Gorczyk was Lithuanian. Both from LI. Gorczyk’s father had a large liquor distributorship. A keg of beer arrived every Friday afternoon,
