There are certainly candidates who I prefer, but it's a bit reassuring that the Dems aren't (yet) looking like their candidate will be on the extreme left.
I'm in the mode of even being willing to pull the lever for an extreme left candidate over Trumpism, but I hope that won't be necessary.
Yang? Great choice
Hillary? oh....she is running.
Tulsi? Yup, she sold me after watching the almost 3 hours long podcast with Joe Rogan. Donated and volunteered already. But, enough about me. Whom do you prefer over biden? You pick on tRumps kids. WHat's to like about Hunter, biden's drug testing child of losing the officer thing?
But there are a whole bunch of folks who are more moderate than the left extremists.

Did you just admit to doing what it takes? Anything? Even breaking the LAW? (voting more than once) TDS is to blame, your honor
Weld is running. His websight is horrible, but he is in good company.

I like Weld, but absent an impeachment and conviction in Senate of Der Leader, it's a quixotic run at best.
Trump's not going to bother with any debates during primary season and no one in the Party will insist on such. Ridiculous as that is, that's the way it's going to go down.
I don't know much about Justin Amash, but am pleased to see an R, in office, step up and actually call for impeachment.
But hey, he actually bothered to read the Report.

Peggy Noonan breaks the hammer....
https://www.wsj.com/articles/how-democr ... 1559256496How Democrats Can Avoid Losing
Trump is beatable in 2020, but only if his opponent appeals beyond the base.
• Don’t pursue impeachment.
• Abandon the Green New Deal.
• Moderate Medicare for All.
• Embrace immigration reform.
• Reject identity politics.
• Make tax policy fair.
• Stop promising free stuff.
• Respect the other side on abortion.
Democrats, if you’re serious about winning in 2020, put aside Trump rage and impeachment fever and give voters reason to believe you’ll calm the acrimony and restore bipartisan problem-solving in the capital. At the same time, develop a platform and message that can command support from a majority of the electorate. Don’t let the cheering end at the nominating convention.

• Don’t pursue impeachment. Naw....it's a great distraction for the things that matter. Like Congress vote "all in/YES" to spending and spending. Selling weapons to our horrible "allies". Move along, Amazing-ON doesn't have a contract with the CIA.
• Abandon the Green New Deal. Pretends already have. Remember the "present" vote?
• Moderate Medicare for All. Do insurance companies donate to Democrats? Won't happen.
• Embrace immigration reform. This is a ruse. What does "reform" mean? Just enforce our laws. Stop illegals by: 1:Passing E-verify 2. Jail anyone that hires illegals, which is blatent human rights abuse. 3. Recognize that the "Mexicanization" of the US is a real movement.
• Reject identity politics.
• Make tax policy fair. Pass the point of use sales tax. Wang IS talking about it.
• Stop promising free stuff. who is promising free stuff?
• Respect the other side on abortion. Such a bizzare issue. You are ending a human life. Which the Dems are fine with funding our killing machine industry, allowing the North Andover or Weston Mass. home owner to spend $200K on a new kitchen. Have any combat vets on these threads evah killed another human?

That's the dumbest strategy I've ever heard. My favorite is stop promising free stuff. Right. Because Trump doesn't do that, and you'll scare moderates away if we make any moves to make sure our children can add and read books.foreverlax wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2019 8:55 am Peggy Noonan breaks the hammer....

Dems are stuck. A middle of the road candidate won't get people out to vote. And according to Noonan here, offering a real, actual liberal will scare away moderates.
All because we have tens of millions of full grown adults in complete denial that with each passing year, we make our government more and more socialist. And what they want is for their leaders to tell them that they are independent and hard working boys and girls on one hand...while cutting checks to them with the other. All while borrowing all the needed money so they don't have to pay those meany taxy-waxies.
Re: 2020 Elections - Off and Running
More like hundreds of millions. Who also don't understand that they would mostly be much poorer if the gubmint got less socialist.
I would really like to see true capitalist policies put in place, just for a year or two, so people could find out for themselves what they've been voting for. No more Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, EMTALA. Armed guards at hospital doors. EMTs who leave you to die in the street after a car accident if you don't have paid-up private insurance or enough money in the bank to cover all your bills up front.
Re: 2020 Elections - Off and Running
You forget it was FDR a democrat and Teddy Kennedy another democrat along with LBJ another democrat that force fed us all these socialist programs. That got the country sucking its teats.CU77 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 01, 2019 4:24 pmMore like hundreds of millions. An interesting article. But its written by a conservative so you'll give it short shrift.

Re: 2020 Elections - Off and Running
I just wish you or Will or someone would explain your vision of society. In particular: does someone who does not have enough money or insurance to cover medical bills get left to die? And if not, what happens? Who pays?
What about the working person who spends freely throughout his working life, then injures his back and can't work anymore. No money left. Now what? Does he become a beggar on the street?
Is your vision many more homeless and destitute people lining the sidewalks? Is that the kind of country you want to live in?

Re: 2020 Elections - Off and Running
Nothing---and I mean nothing----would make me happier that to get rid of all socialism in America.
And no, we don't get to use the nonsense 6ftstick silly definition of socialism which is "if I like it, it doesn't count as socialism."
We get to use the REAL definition: everything is privatized. No SS. No medicare. No public roads, schools, transportation, parks, libraries, Universities.
Every piece of land has a private owner. And certainly no billions to farmers for doing nothing. No subsidies for internet or rural development. It's every man for himself.
I then I'd get to sit back and watch flyover America burn to the ground as the free market tears them apart. And watch them all move to cities in a matter of weeks, not months.
No, I give it short shrift because he's in denial just as you are. Collectivism is where all our greatest modern achievements lie. Landing on the moon. Winning WWII. GI Bill. Best Universities in the world. Internet. And on and on and on. Government has a hand in all of it. Holding your breath, pouting, and pretending like it didn't happen is the behavior of a child, not a full grown man who's responsible for his actions.
George Will's ideal? Picture the Great Depression with zero government intervention. The wild west. Lawless, local tribes control everything.
Hard pass.
6ft, pretend America was really free market the entire 1900's.
Question: when do you think we would have landed on the moon?

Re: 2020 Elections - Off and Running
Now we're getting somewhere, and 6ft has hopped onto the slippery slope. Can you be more concrete? Who is helpless in your view?
Would you qualify those 70+ in age as helpless?
As if it's just the helpless and privatization for the rest of us: that means private schools, roads, transportation, and parks. Do I have that right?
Bye Bye University of Alabama, and no R&D spending at Johns Hopkins correct? And tuition for the private schools is wholly free market, right?
Re: 2020 Elections - Off and Running
You can't undo 70 years, bud. Far too dramatic for far too many people who based their lives and planned on a certain outcome.a fan wrote: ↑Sat Jun 01, 2019 8:58 pmNow we're getting somewhere, and 6ft has hopped onto the slippery slope. Can you be more concrete? Who is helpless in your view?

No. Civilization demands certain participation by all parties. Thats not SOCIALISM. Socialism excludes all but the government.

]All those folks doing R&D at Hopkins and elsewhere would be employed somewhere. We still need the R&D nest ce pas
Re: 2020 Elections - Off and Running
Of course you can! Doubly so if the free market is so super-sparkly awesome!
I'm sure someone will provide world class hospital care in, say, rural Kansas or Oklahoma, right? The free market is best, remember?
Isn't that what you and guys like Reagan have been selling for the last 70 years?
Re: 2020 Elections - Off and Running
I don't understand these sentences. Can you rewrite them?
Who's going to pay for it? The free market say: nope, no money for that.
Example that I gave you before? Every single drug approved for use by the FDA in a 10 year period ending in (I think) 2017 took Federal funding. All of them.
What does that tell you?
Exactly. Free market, my *ss. No one is going to pay for that R&D. Too much risk, too little reward. So what does American pharma do? It uses taxpayer money that it gets for free, and then keeps every penny of the profits when their taxpayer funded R&D pays off. Sweet deal, right?
Another one I gave you last month: over 60% of all new home loans given last year were paid for by the Federal government---Fannie, Freddie, Dept. of Ag, etc.
Re: 2020 Elections - Off and Running

Did the government subsidize Rockefeller and standard oil? Edison? Ford? Carnegie? Vanderbilt?
Are you making delicious spirits because the government is subsidizing you?
Steve Jobs CHANGED THE WORLD and how we function in it! With private investment! And they do their own R&D I think.
