Sorry to say I just came across this news from December. I knew he had serious health issues, but didn't realize that he had passed away.
I used to know him pretty well, but lost touch with him when I moved.
He is certainly someone I would point to as a wonderful man and an outstanding human being, one who significantly helped many, many people.

Thank you for posting. I coached Rick's son Scott (Loyola HS, '95) at the varsity level in soccer and lacrosse. Scott was a 3 year starter in both sports. Scott was a "yes, sir/no, sir", run through the wall kind of player. A true gentleman who was tough as nails. One of the best I ever coached in my 35 years. Rick wrote me a letter after the soccer season ended in Scott's senior year. Rick was impressed with how I spoke about a number of the seniors at our end of the season banquet. They were not starting players but their work ethic and team first mentality had a significant impact on our success. Rick never mentioned his son who was a team captain and our leader. Rick Diggs, humble to his core. I feel blessed to have known him.
