cdb wrote: Sun Jul 28, 2024 2:11 pm I got my info from an article that I did not check out, so mea culpa for that -- but I think the main point I was making still holds true -- coaches can run very effective systems if they have great players -- and Wooden began his ascension into being the GOAT after he recruited Lou Alcindor.
not to belabor the point, but wooden won champs in 1964 and 1965, thus allowing him the chance to pull alcinder out west from power memorial. if that didn't do it, it was the sustained fantastic success he had for a decade and a half for a school that had never seen any for decades before he arrived.

thompson took over a 3-23 team. 1st year went .500. he never went .500 or worse again, and in the years leading up to getting ewing they were like 150- 55.

i'm not sure the era of walk ons are over, but sux if they're being outcast. getting to precisely the number with transfers, etc. may happen less than you'd expect. or maybe it'll be allowed to practice (or redshirt one year) and not be on the roster. for sure they'll go down in football, at least rostered guys. but if walk ons have the same odds as rudy for ever getting in, i like their chances. rudy got in.

I am watching carefully what the football school's response will be to women's sports -- especially in regards to WLAX. From what I have been reading the football coaches do not even know what is going to happen with their programs never mind the other sports.

I am a huge Loyola fan because of the amazing recruiting and results from that coaching staff!! I just wish the staff would go to a program with the resources to make them a legitimate threat every year. Imagine if that staff jumped to Ohio State last year. I think Ohio State got a really good coach, but it would be great to see Adams and Dobbie make some real waves in the women's lacrosse world. They can identify great players without depending on the rankings. Their recruits seem to correctly climb up the ranking once they commit to Loyola.

Maybe they are very happy at Loyola and are not interested in moving.

They probably are very comfortable and have great lives. They are both great people and make the sport of lacrosse better. The comment was just an "imagine if event" that would shake up lacrosse. They are the perfect example that great coaches have to be able to identify great players and put them in positions to succeed. The higher level of the majority of recruits, the more room for error in coaching and vice versa. I would just love to see that coaching staff have an easier time attracting more girls from the national talent pool.

Not sure if this was already reported but Haley Warden (assistant at ASU the last two years) is no longer on the staff page. ASU brought in Danielle Pavinelli who recently graduated from Florida who likely replaces her overseeing the offense while Wakefield handles the D.

The word interesting can mean so many things
Interesting = wow. Outside the box.
Interesting =Certainly not the splash some where hoping for but a good choice.
Interesting = Not the direction I thought they would go.
Interesting =What the heck

FSU should be interesting to watch. She hasn’t coached or recruited at a high level. She also hasn’t hid her dislike for all men at CMU or EMU. Definitely doesn’t scream FSU is serious about lacrosse.

I think we learned a lot about FSU and their intentions/aspirations for this program today.

Perhaps FSU wanted someone with experience starting a program? She has started two at the D1 level.

I am sure that factored into their decision to select her. I am speaking more about the pool of candidates she beat out for this job; and the why that pool of candidates came to be.
