I highly recommend to anyone here that is interested to go for it and to spread the word to all friends and family. This should go hand in hand with discouraging any and everyone that you know not to consider any “elite” college or “elite” university when it’s time to apply to colleges….particularly any Ivy League or NESCAC School or places like Stanford, Wash. U or Swarthmore. Please spread the word.

Re: American Educational System
Why do you constantly push for this? At first, I thought you were joking and still have to think you are. Unless you are just pulling a George Costanza and telling people not to apply so that they actually encourage their kids to do so. Just not sure why you keep telling posters to discourage friends and family to apply to academically elite universities. Never know with your sarcasm.Typical Lax Dad wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2024 12:28 pm

Just supporting the folks that are down on these liberal elite colleges and the need to go to college. There is more support for it.JoeMauer89 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2024 3:37 pmWhy do you constantly push for this? At first, I thought you were joking and still have to think you are. RURAL REPUBLICANS ARE FIGHTING TO SAVE THEIR PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Many state legislators see voucher programs as a threat to the anchors of their communities.
It's amazing what people actually value vs. what social media/talking heads say they're supposed to value. The average American voice has gotten drowned out by $$$.

Vouchers are nothing more than a redirection of tax money into churches who run schools, and have the intended effect of killing the public school system as those behind it want education privatized (better to make money from it) and into religious hands as much as possible to allow the bending of education from truth and science to junk education that tells their students lies about the nature of the world.jhu72 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 08, 2024 6:14 pm... and the liberals / democrats in government are supporting them.NattyBohChamps04 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 06, 2024 4:13 pm RURAL REPUBLICANS ARE FIGHTING TO SAVE THEIR PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Seems that America is on it, as I keep saying. If these allegations are true? Good riddance. Folks aren't putting up with this stuff.youthathletics wrote: ↑Wed Jul 10, 2024 9:48 am Nice job by Columbia educators : https://apnews.com/article/columbia-uni ... fe202f305b

Vouchers are the opportunity for children from low income areas to attend charter schools that provide a more structured education than their public school which is typically in an urban area, no?

It's just math....if taxpayer dollars go to a Church for students, that means those same dollars aren't going to public schools.KI Dock Bar wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 7:38 pm Unfortunately I am not following this.

So the Church schools get pumped full of money, and the public schools have less. No citation needed. Just math.
This is what Church's want, obviously: kill any competition, and get rich by doing it.

We must be talking about two different educational settings. I am a big fan of charter schools that are based in low socio-economic areas, like New York City that provide an opportunity for students to get a valued education. Vouchers for religious schools are a different story.a fan wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 7:44 pmIt's just math....if taxpayer dollars go to a Church for students, that means those same dollars aren't going to public schools.KI Dock Bar wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 7:38 pm Unfortunately I am not following this.

Of course, Red's right about the ideology too.
Ki Dock...what you are saying is what most of us wished the voucher effort means. Unfortunately, it's been perverted.
Now, if we were willing to heavily fund public schools, especially those serving tough neighborhoods, AND provide vouchers then we'd at least be having a reasonable discussion. But this is robbing Peter to pay Paul and the movement people know exactly what they're doing and why.

And yes, vouchers is a whole different thing, especially the religious "private" schools...with tax breaks because they are religious on top.
Unfortunately, there's been very little improvement in outcomes shown by private charters as well, when holding constant for other factors. They can provide a safer, better environment for a few, but the impact is quite negative for others too.

Re: American Educational System
Less money to support the same infrastructure until a decision is made to close a school because kids can return to the district. Public Schools can’t “right size” over a moderate time horizon because by law they have to have the capacity to educate a district. Can’t take a goodwill impairment charge either. Public schools are like that fish in a fish tank in which predators continent to take small bites put of the fish and it continues to swim around until 50% of the body is gone and the fish collapses. It’s part of the plan. Continue to skim until the very bottom of society in these communities is all that is left. Move the jobs, move the “good” schools….take away resources….watch the habitat collapse.a fan wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 7:44 pmIt's just math....if taxpayer dollars go to a Church for students, that means those same dollars aren't going to public schools.KI Dock Bar wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 7:38 pm Unfortunately I am not following this.
